Hi....One question for the poster or anyone else who knows....Is making your own soy milk cheaper than buying it at the grocery story???? I buy soy milk for roughly $2.50 to $3.00 per half gallon.
Wow that's quite a bit of work. Using a soya milk machine is WAY neater and convenient. Elegant too. I found a really useful machine on soyamilkmachine . net
Basically, you could produce the same thing within just 20 mins while you sit back and relax~
What made this video so good is she showed where she made slight mistakes like not adding enough water or using enough clips to hold the cheesecloth. This make a newbie less stressed when making something new. I also use a fine mesh strainer which works better for me than cheesecloth.
This seem to be a different process from the other videos. Which is more correct?sift the okara before putting the soy into boil or sift it after boiling like the one in this video??
Oh my goodness, I made my own soymilk following these steps and it was DISGUSTING! I want to buy it ('cuz supermarket soymilk is more tasty a more nutritive), but in my country it's six times more expensive than cow milk. :S
@luisfml94 Just curious if you tried to make soy milk again. There are better methods Plus, if you let the milk cool before adding the lids avoids the sulphurous (rotten egg) smell. It gets trapped in the jar but usually evaporates with the steam as it cools. Cooking the beans prior to grinding them also allows the enzyme inhibitors to be nutralized. Add some vanilla or almond extract. Barley or cooked rice. Add malted milk powder, salt & honey. Or raw nut milks are easier to make & flavorful!
The thing I remember the most about my one experiment with soy milk was just how bad it smelled when the last little bit went off in the fridge. It smelled just like rotting meat. I guess it's the high protein content that's responsible.
I make soy milk with my soy milk maker, but i have one problem, i allow it to cool wen ive made it b4 putting it in the fridge, but after 2 days it tastes bitter and awful? Do u kno why this could be? I flavour with a bit of agava and vanilla extract. But somethings telling me that shouldnt make a difference...
Hello, you didn't show the heating/cooking part, which is very time consuming and problematic. Soymilk could easily burnt at the buttom of the pot or suddenly boil over. So you have use low heat and stand-by and watch for a long time.
would it be a lot easier if she squeezed out the blended soybean first before boiling it coz she was like struggling to squeeze out the milk coz it was too hot to handle
before purchasing a soymilk maker, my mom make soymilk pretty much the same way you do except for one step. you cooked the bean & water mixture after blending, my mom strains the mixture before cooking it.
Made It 2x. 1st Time I Boiled It For About 45m. Tried A Drop, My Stomach Hurt For 1Wk. Next Time, I Tried A Dif Recipe.. Cooked On Med Till Boiling. Let It Cool 30Min. Cooked In Double Boiler For 30Min. This Time I Took All The Skins Off & Skimed The Top Of Weird Bubbles & Skin.. Drank About 1T &, Within 10min My Stomach Was Hurting. Through The Morning.. Until I Can Use The Restroom. It Goes On For A Week. Any Ather Advise?... Should Soy Milk Still Smell Weird After You Done Cooking It?
I Made Some Homemade Soy Milk, & My Stomach Hurt For About 12 Hours Sofar.. I Really Wanna Learn How To My My Own Because It'd Be Cheaper Than Buying It.. But It Hurts My Stomach Really Bad Evertime I Make It.. But I Can Drink Soy Milk From The Store.. Does Anyone Know What Would Be The Cause Of This?
Maybe you're not boiling the milk long enough. There is an enzyme in the uncooked beans that makes it difficult for us to digest. Boiling the milk for at least half an hour kills the enzyme. Also, while you're boiling the milk, collect the skins that form on the top. There are many recipes using bean curd skins that are very tasty.
@MamoruTakamurasan Thats odd....every where I read the ingredients, it states approximately 3.4% of protein. A different protein. Hmmmmmmm. one example;
lipids (fats) -- approximately 4%
proteins -- approximately 3.4%
carbohydrates (lactose) -- approximately 4.8%, and
I know this might seem like a strange question, but can you use other types of beans in a similar way, to extract other kinds of liquid? I know it wouldn't be 'milk' but are there other things you can do with liquidised beans?

Actually, soy milk isn't gross, it just depends on which kind you buy. Silk Very Vanila soy milk is actually very sweet...also, you supposed to shake it well...
OOoo I didn't know the foam is poisonous! My mom makes a type of miso soup a lot like that (we leave the beans inside and a bit chunky) but we leave the foam there. Uh oh...
That's pretty darn cool. hee. I have to use soy milk (though I really only bother to use it with cereal) since I have acid reflux and regular milk is just a big no no.
I never knew it could be that easy. lol. Does it taste very different from what you'd buy in the store? I usually just get Silk soy milk.
It tastes different to the stuff I have been drinking in Canada (So Nice) - because that has extra ingredients like sugar, flavour etc. But it tastes pretty much the same as the plain stuff I get in Japan.
Do you mean the stuff I skimmed off the top when it was cooking? That is kind of poisonous... so it is thrown away. The other stuff (okara) is usually used as animal feed - or in cooking. I have been making lots of stuff with the okara: falafel, stir-fry, pizza base.
Thanks for this demonstration. I did not realize how simple making soy milk can be. This really is helpful and I am hoping will save me some money as I go through more than a quart a day.
I like soymilk because I hate cow milk because I feel bad for the cows!!

cook, then squeeze. also, cheese cloth might not be enough to get all the grit out of it, so you might have to use something finer.
