Aaron: I just found out that you OD'd last night. I'm devastated and feel for your parents and your sister. R.I.P, my friend. I hope you've found the peace that always alluded you in this world.
I agree with one of the people who posted a comment that the family is talented with God gifted voices, Dionne and Whitney. I grew up listening to Dionne and she is one of my favorite. RIP Whitney and let's all remember that Jesus Christ holds our past, present and future.
@dibotis I just wanted to say that I love your video! Love it! I am the last child of a large family and grew up listening to Ms. Dionne Warwick; my old siblings used to play her songs over and over. They still do! Thank you so very much for posting this video. It brought me back on years and years of my beautiful life.
RIP Dory Previn, the writer/composer of this song (along with her then-husband Andre Previn), at age 86. She also wrote "Come Saturday Morning," for the film "The Sterile Cuckoo."
There is a fine appreciation of her in the New York Times. Go to the Times' website and and in Dory Previn in the search box.
They dont write them like this anymore. Splendid composition. Seamless time signatures, vocal finess, uplifting with gentle breaks. Like a beautiful soft breeze...It does give me goose bumps when Dionne breaks into the heart of the song. Magical.
Absolutely the most haunting song ever recorded. Still gives me goosebumps just like it did the first time I heard it as an impressionable teen over 30 years ago.

I can remember working at the drive-in theater at the time this movie came out. After the show and the cars were gone it was my job to walk the grounds and turn down the car speakers. This song would play and it was so peaceful with the warm gentle breeze's of the night blowing through my longish hair. There would be a million stars out and the moments were so serene with the angelic voice of Dionne. Every so often I would have to knock on car windows to interrupt the night long make out session

This is truly an inspirational song-as well as one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard; helped me through a messy relationship/divorce. Great arrangement and beautifully sung by the great Dionne W
The absolute saddest and prettiest song dionne ever did..next to windows of the world, trains and boats and planes..and of course..the immortal Walk On By..they are indeed the best of Dionne. the best. at 3:36 you can see Diana Ross 3rd from Dionne..Dionne, Dee Dee, Diana Ross and Leslie Uggems..nice pic.

one of Warwick's nicest songs. I enjoyed reading the notes that you posted about the song. very informative. I happen to have the soundtrack...it has some interesting songs even without this song in it.
The lyrics to this song.....transcend time....because everyone, at one time oranother, has an awakening.....it's what you do after your eyes are opened that determines your life.......
I was driving back from Charlotte NC many years ago after my divorce ,this song was playing on the radio and it calmed me down .I ended up with custody of both my kids even if I was a single guy at the time .I'll always remember this song and both my kids ended up college grads and it turned out great ,but at that time I was one lost soul THANKS
hang in there big guy ,they will make you proud ,but of course they already have ,You are a hero ,and your kids know it and thats what counts THANY YOU
@DORSEY12100 It sounds like you went through a difficult rough patch. All the best to you and your children....I don't recall "Valley of the Dolls", as I was far too young to understand when the book and then the movie appearedut . But whatever the time and circumstances, Dionne Warwick''s beautiful rendering of the song is still worth listening to. Like yours, my kids are grown now as well. Success and fulfillment to all of them in the future,
@DORSEY12100 This lost soul for 5 years has been going thru the pain you have experienced. I didn't get full custody of my toddler sons but joint after spending my life savings to fight for them. Now in grade school I am a mess when they are not with me even after years. This song from my perfect childhood (in comparison) is very powerful and makes me break down whenever I hear it. Glad you came through it. I try to remain optimistic, financially and mentally...but still so hard when I am alone
Please don't give up ,kids know who love them (they just do) I promise !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!my biggest problem back then I was so ashamed and depressed I couldn't see that then.I payed all the child support before I got custody and when I did guess what? I didn't receive not one dime (SO BE IT) but I got my kids and even when I was alone without them (I was never really alone) I was to proud or stupid to ask for help ,but it worked out .Hang in there
She is singing this referring to 'Tyler's' multiple identities.
Marla: Ok. You fuck me, then snub me. You love me, you hate me. You show me a sensitive side, then you turn into a total asshole. Is this a pretty accurate description of our relationship, Tyler?
She should receive her due respect from the co-members on the show "Celebrity Apprentice". The problem today is that many new "celebs"don't know crap or even care about the past. As a kid, The team, Bacharach-David and Warwick dominated the airwaves for a least a whole decade. Through her trials and tribulations and tremendous success she she should be recognized as a the first diva and a true living legend.
I don't think that any of the ol school great legends should ever be on any of these new shows like Celebrity Apprentice. Because these legends have built a great legacy over the years, and when they get on these new crappy shows, it diminishes the greatness of what they have always been known for. A legend of Dionne Warwick's stature and success shouldn't lower herself to the disrespect and craziness that goes on with these new shows.
saw the movie many moons ago, cannot remember much about it, save for Sharon Tate, alas because of the horrendous way in which she and others were slaughtered, But will always remember this pretty song...
As far as I'm concerned, she was the black Karen Carpenter - and there's not a higher compliment I can give a female singer. Or Karen was the white Dionne. Either way it's true.
Many people throughout the world look back at these times and think." That's when the United states was once America". A time of so much promise we were far from perfect but the skies were the limit. I remember when John Lennon was killed and billboards throughout LA proclaimed that the The Dream is over. I saw the same sign two weeks ago near a LA fwy and I didn't know what to think. Man where did we go wrong. I guess this song reminds me of happier times as a child.
Loved the book, the film, and the theme song sung by Dionne Warwick. What a fabulous voice! The book, the film, and the music were all so good. Dionne Warwick - wow - what a talented woman. Thank you for for a memorable post.
Excuse me twebb63, but André and Dory Previn wrote this song!!! Bacharach simply produced the re-recorded studio version with Dionne Warwick because 20th-Century-Fox couldn't get permission from Dionne Warwick's Sceptor record label at the time. Dory Previn sings it on the soundtrack record version.
Excuse me twebb63, but André and Dory Previn wrote this song!!! Bacharach simply produced the re-recorded studio version because 20th-Century-Fox couldn't get permission from Dionne Warwick's record label.
@twebb63 You're absolutely right about Bacharach, but unfortunately, he did not write this tune, as it was written by Andre and Dory Previn. But NO ONE wrote for Dionne like Burt Bacharach and Hal David, and no one ever will.. Bacharach is indeed the greatest..
A beautiful song by the classiest female singer ever. Miss Dionne Warwick. This is one of her very best songs. After singing for 47 years - her music has stood the test of time. She still performs to packed audiences which proves the staying power of a truly talented artist. Her music will be around forever.
Sad song.

Is Valley of the Dolls the Russ Meyer film? How in the hell did Russ Meyer get Dionne Warwick to do such a beautiful song for such cheesecake?

@freeOJ2007 That was 'Beyond the Valley of the Dolls'.

This music makes cry because it deals with years when Humanity was in a relative equilibrium and people had the true meaning of celebration. Today...

Hell of a Video...!
No one can sing this song like Dionne...
and of course...Burt Bacharach is one of the greatest Songwriters of all time.

@twebb63 - Burt Bacharach is a great songwriter but did not write Valley . It was written by Andre' and Dori Previn . It's a great song ! Love it

Elegant melody. No real talent on the current airwaves. Singing is a lost art form!
