  • Walk Away was sung by Matt Monro.

  • @Boswell69,

thank you for finding this instrumental gem of the sixties bringing me back to a time of innocence and naivety. Thank you for taking the time to tell a bit of history about the author/composer. That helps to "situate" the context and era in which this melody was created in. It also enables the younger generations to be exposed to a culture (the "beautiful music" radio of the sixties) long gone. America was pure and innocent then (at least on the outside). Peace be with you,

    L

  • @lancelot1953 Yes,indeed. The early '60s brought us beautiful, haunting songs and instrumentals, reflecting innocent times before JFK was assasinated and the Vietnam War divided us.I love listening to the music of this time period even though I was born in '61

  • THIS SONG IS ME!!!!

  • One of the BEST instrumentals ever! Thank you for posting! If only more songs were like this classic - nostalgia waxes!

  • Must have included one of the first fuzz-tone guitar parts.....kind of grotesque but neat......

  • Beautiful....no two ways about it....

  • Great song. Use this often on my radio show as a "bed" to talk over.

  • Para despedir la noche, como dijo alguna vez Mr. John Gress, para q salga en verso; a su estilo.

  • We were in a deliciously innocent, though too short-lived time then. Pre- Kennedy assassination, pre-Vietnam, pre- everything-going-to-hell.......

The likes of which, I fear we will never see again, more's the pity.

  • OMGG!!!! i HAD TOTALLY FORGOTTEN ABOUT THIS SONG!! I REMEMBER BEING A LITTLE GIRL - DANCING TO THIS SONG WITH MY DADDY (MY FEET ON HIS:=) IN OUR LIVING ROOM! WHAT A SWEET MEMORY:=) BEAUTIFUL SONG!

  • Nothing warms me more on the coldest winter day than to hear this. The memories that it re-kindles are worth more than a ton of gold. When I heard for the first time I loved a very special person. Forty-eight years later, the feelings remain.

  • This was one of my father's favorite songs. A gruff Navy guy from New York City. Who would've figured?

  • Thisis such a beautiful song that will never ever get old.

  • An absolutely great but rarely played song form the winter of my senior year in high school in 63.

  • @johnnieonenote1 63 was MY senior year as well, and you're right. I NEVER hear this song either. I LOVED it, and still do.

  • One of the great Top 40 instrumentals--thanks, Boswell69.

  • Along with "Walk Away" possibly the most beautiful music ever recorded, brings me back to when i first heard it in 1968 after I walked my first love home from high school and it started snowing. I can still see her white furry hat, coat, mittens and sparkling green eyes whenever I hear this masterpiece, she was the most beautiful girl in the whole school and I never got over her.

  • @rainstormz28 I don't remember Walk Away. Who performed it? I'd like to look it up on Amazon to download. Thanks so much.

  • This music makes me think of that young beautiful and so sad girl that I met many many years ago for just one day.I made a date with her and took her out and she cried out her heart to me, how so many guys just wanted to use her and how she was looking for that genuine guy. I could see she wanted me but I wasn't looking for such commitment. I put her on the train and never saw her again. The love she offered was so real but I could not at that time see it. I don't even remember her name.Life....

  • Beautiful. Today I am resetting my mind with beautiful music from great instrumentals. Our Winter Love, Soul Coaxing by Ray Lefevre, Theme from A Summer Place by Mancini. True soul food.

  • DL the audio from this track at thetunify doht cohm.

  • Oh yeah I would be a vicious person if I didn't thank boswell69. Thanks Man !

  • If you don't think this is a beautiful haunting song then you are a vicious ugly person inside and out. Just kidding about the "out" part.

  • I love this song.Talk about memories. They played this song at the intermissions at the state theater in the early 60's. I would give anything to go back to that time.

  • Innovative for the time; having a gentle ballad suddenly rattled by a fuzz guitar!

  • Just one more reason why the sixties were the best decade for music.

  • So glad everyone enjoyed it. Just heard it the other day on music choice on comcast, at easy listening.

  • Always loved this one so smooth and easy to listen to. The background voices are superb. It's a classic, thanks a lot.

  • So beautiful.

  • @thegmantube Yes it certainly is beautiful it makes my soul leap and my eyes weep us humans are crazy somtimes but listening to this makes me think we have a chance.

  • @TetVet1969 You're quite welcome sir and thank you for your service.

  • @boswell69 Nice to see that someone else thanks the members of our armed forces; thanks from me as well, TetVet1969.

  • @TetVet1969 you're quite welcome sir and thank you for your service.

  • @TetVet1969

My heart to you, I brought this melody as part of recordings from the sixties while I was in the Gulf War to remind me of a time I was innocent - missed Vietnam by one year but got the three next wars. I hope that you are doing well and that both of you are happy, you deserve it.

Peace be with you and Happy Holidays!

    L

  • GREAT SONG...

  • Makes my mind wander back to days past........wonderful song

  • If this is not the most beautiful song ever written, what is? I want to hear it.

  • @montmorg67 good memories. thanks for listening.

  • Bill Purcell is the former mayor of Nashville. Bill Pursell teaches at Belmont University in Nashville and recorded this song. He has a channel on youtube: pursellwilliam. His name is spelled Pursell in his bio on the Belmont University web site. I am sure the original spelling of Pursell was correct.

  • LOL! That's what I thought. I didn't think I had goofed on the name. Thank you.

  • Can you please correct the spelling of this man's name? It's Purcell. I always loved this song. Thanks!

  • @flagday45 I stand corrected. Thank you.

  • Hy Lit, on WIBG in Philly, used to use this as a song that he talked over. When we were teenagers, we laughed, we cried, and this got us through our first loves andour first heartaches. Hyski will live forever in our hearts - he may be gone, but never forgotten. He helped me grow up.

  • Actually, this was not conceived as a Christmas or holiday song and did not enter the chart until late January of 1963. It works beautifully, however, with other winter themes.

Thanks, Boswell, for posting the correct version. Pursell apparently re-recorded it. Good, but not quite right.

  • @nickellodeon55 They played this song as part of the Christmas Music playlist

  • Reminds me of skating in Avalon Park's rink (Chicago) as a boy! So long ago!

  • nice memory.

  • Thanks!
