Just talked to Richard Harvey. He confirms there is John Williams' guitar in 10 of the 12 movements, though not always solo.
Incidentally, John Williams & Richard are playing concerts as a duo again in May 2011, in Woking (New Theatre), Reading, Maidstone and Eastbourne. Worth looking out for, of course.
The guitar has a part throughout the work. I know because Richard Harvey's office sent it of it to me. I'm working to get 'Plague and the Moonflower' performed in Toronto...could do with a bit more positive input from the locals. The 'movers' in this city seem to have a lot of money but not a lot of musical taste. I'm working on it....
@ianshircore Good question. Not sure how to answer it but thank you for asking. Richard and Ralph have agreed to be involved in what would be 'Plagues' North American premiere. JW may take part as well - depending on his schedule off course. Thinking....
WOW-Fantastic. I love Harvey's compositions and it's about time we hear a new recording featuring JW. Thank you soooo much for posting this. Is there a video and CD of this performance available for sale and if so, could you kindly provide the name of the record company, stock numbers, etc?
@6silverbeams The CD is Plague & The Moonflower: An Oratorio by Richard Harvey with Libretto by Ralph Steadman (with Ben Kingsley, John Williams, Ian Holm, Kym Amps, Richard Studt). Altus Records ALU0001.
May be obtainable through Amazon, but will definitely be available at cdsouk.com.
@ianshircore Thanks for this info. Based on the Oratorio's available videos in YouTube, it appears that JW's guitar part is written in only 2 of the movements and that the rest do not have the guitar included, but the score is excellent.
i wish there were tabs for this piece
