  • looks more like funeral

  • Excellent quality. Would a fancy frame-by-frame ArriScan process have yielded more detail or is this pretty much all the mileage one can expect from super8?

  • @wakeupfist Thanks

Perhaps if I used an industrial camera instead of a webcam, the real star is Avisynth! See what this processing can do > Super 8mm Wedding Film 1974 - My Raw Telecine processed with Avisynth

  • @cineprojectorman

Thanks for the reply, cineprojectorman. That's actually how I got here. Also, I've been using AVISYnth for years. I'ts nice indeed. Too bad no work is currently being done on the x64 implementation.

  • @wakeupfist Have you seen the side by side clip > Re: Super 8mm Wedding Film 1974 - My Raw Telecine processed with Avisynth - All thanks to videofred

  • @cineprojectorman

    Yes I have.

Apparently the sharpening filter proved a bit too risky for the shot with the bell tower silhouette. Haloing shows. I tend to go a different rout for shots like that. When I'm really in the mood, (or bored) I can go as far as treat each shot individually :-P

  • Wonderful footage !!! The images of Super 8 were magical. Thanks for posting !!!

  • Why is it jittery like that?

    Unwatchable.

  • @Caljamscott

It looks kinda hand-held to me.

  • My God ... almost as if you can feel the texture on the clothing and the colors just pop out in incredible vividness. The film has to be Kodachrome. What a brilliant job you've done.

  • hi

what avisynth script commands did you use for this footage.??

  • Cant post URL so, Google "The power of Avisynth restoring old 8mm films" look at page 5. My source was from here. Also, Google Freddy Van de Putte a genius IMHO - See his results on Vimeo.

Have you compared my original clip "Super 8mm Wedding Film 1974 - Telecine" with this avisynth version? The difference still amazes me. What do you think?

  • yup hehe checked out Freddy's footage and it's amazing what Avisynth does. I'm impressed with how sharp Avisynth makes this look for super 8. hehe you should make this video as a response to the original footage.

  • All the other Super 8 you see on Youtube gives Super 8 a bad name. This looks absolutely gorgous, despite it being obviously a cloudy dark day of the wedding.Full marks for the engineering and effort in the transfer.

  • superb quality, stupid question time, what is ''avisynth''

  • I'm new to Avisynth and still learning about it! [Google it, as I don't think I'm allowed to post URL] Open "more info" on the right of my clip, click to see the Original version edited with Adobe Premiere Pro - A big difference I think.

  • how did you transfer the images to digital?

  • Used Creative webcam Ultra - See my Telecine Machine - DIY [search for "cineprojectorman"] - click more info to right of clips

  • Thanks. Your Telecine Machine is very interesting but I dont have the technical knowledge to modify my Super 8 projector. What do you advise me to digitalize my pictures?

  • Oh, just a suggestion: You could add "avisynth" to your tags words, as it is has done a great job in your video production. I use You Tube a lot for product review for software, hardware, cameras, etc. Because you get everyday people giving an unbiased review.

  • Thanks for the comments. To the right of the clip, click "more info" I have added Avisynth. I've uploaded a number of versions of this clip [file size 122Mb] using Mpeg-4 and X.264 codecs to maintain quality, but problem persists - I do wish Youtube would sort out the HQ issue.

  • overall it still looks great, even if not in HQ.

  • Hi I saw your link in NerdWithNoLife's Technoblog. You are right about the problem with the buffering circle at the very start. Might have been a processing error by You Tube perhaps?? Have you tried reuploading it? Might be a good idea to warn people how to overcome the freezing at the beginning when in HQ. Besides that I really enjoyed the video, to see the hairstyles, dress, cars, etc for that period of time. (the good old days, lol) I was only 7 years old then.

  • Beautiful work Graham. I love it.
