why this chevy astro van do not have 2 amber yellow lights on the rear taillights

  • What is he saying at 0:25?

  • I remember that commerical. The jingle still plays in my head from time to time.

  • My mom had a 1988 Chevy Astro. The Astro was reliable and had plenty of room for our family. I also learned how to drive, in that van.

  • Old Chevy's never die, they just go faster!

  • Hey...thanks for posting this! For some reason, this commercial started going through my head this morning, so I youtubed it and here I am :) Thanks again!

  • The guy that came up with this commercial must have been on an acid trip!

  • This and that 85 Aerostar commericals just make me laugh, with this saying its the best van (hahahaha, no) and Ford sayin theirs was aerodynamic (hahahahaha, no)

  • The Chevy astro was the only van to seat 8! So it beats Ford, Chryslar, Dodge/Plymoth. See how Chevy did that the made a affordable quality comfertable van that sits more people in a Furteristic look. IDT Ford did that. Neither did Plymoth or Chryslar/ Dodge.

  • @SaraP1900 Yeah, it can seat 8, but they wont be comfortable. The Aerostar seats 7 in extended form comfortably!! cool.

  • CHEVY CHEVY GET-KILLEDO KILLDO

  • my friend's parents have a 1994 astro despite the abuse its gone through it still performs like no other! go chevy!!!!

  • My dad has a 1990s Chevy Astro.

  • These were great vans. Many people are too ignorant to know that 1st they are MID sized vans (not mini) and 2nd they are truck based - meaning body on frame, RWD. Not a soccer mom mobile and nowhere comparable to the fwd car based caravans and other such junk. I've seen these vans with big assed V8's too. They sound bad as hell.

  • @jigsaw1984 these vans are actually of a sub-frame design. take a look under one some time. other than that they are awesome vehicles, i wouldn't trade mine for anything!

  • OOOOO FUTURISTIC! but the other chevy minivan that came out in the early 90's (not the venture) looked pretty cool for a minivan. what was it called?

  • Chevrolet Lumina APV/ Olds Silhouette, Pontiac Trans Sport

  • THESE THINGS ARE DEATH TRAPS

  • dont listen to the iihs test look at the real world results

  • @FantomLightning Well i hgave and i saw a 04 astro beside the road looked just like the IIHS test the seat moved the vehicles back "Broke" and the person was crippled

  • @Octonuke i drive a 2000 Astro at highway speeds and just love it. if i crash up at least i will have died happy!

  • @justwolfslife Their crash standards are actually quite good.

  • @ThunderAppeal yeah well duh it's a chevy(and Ford didn't do so good either)

  • @justwolfslife I retract that last statement.

  • @ThunderAppeal but, dispite horrible crash ratings these vans are still some of the safest vehicles on the road. reason being, most Astro drivers are middle aged people who don't drive like nuts! its true, think about it. so in a way you are right.

  • @Octonuke not really...

  • Not bad looking vans..... Looks a lot better than anything coming out of Chrysler at the time.....

  • i have a 98 astro, and now is when i see the commercial!!! :)

  • No wonder my parents bought these things!

  • I remember when I was a kid reducing the jingle down to Chevy! Chevy! Asshole! Asshole!

  • i was just thinkin the same thing

    LOL

  • Now that was funny :D

  • @ryokurin Best comment ever!

  • @ryokurin I used to reduce it to Shitty! Shitty! Asshole! Asshole!

  • I remember that Chevy Chevy, Astro Astro part.

  • i saw this a year ago!omg!

  • I don't know what this commercial is advertising more, the Astro or a Trapper Keeper folder. My first ride was a 1989 Astro CL. I don't care what anybody says, Astro's are sweet. Good gas milage too, despite the lack of aerodynamics. Ah, the amount of burn runs and cruises that van did. My mom made me get rid of it when I bought my Camaro, but I think now that I got the money, I'm gonna find one again. If only I can do some more burnouts in it, lol good times...good times

  • they do excellent burnouts and have lots of low end torque and they run forever

  • My dad still has an '85 Astro, and eventhough its in pitiful condition, I'd like to drive it one day...

  • Mine is an '85 also....can I have your dad's for parts? (kidding)

  • Damn right it is. Nothing beats an Astro for hauling stuff around. You can still fit whatever you need into one yet you also will not feel like you are driving a big battleship no will you feel like the gas mileage is sending you to the poorhouse.

  • Compared to the stereotypical "Soccer Mom" Dodge Caravans and Chrysler T&Cs, this is definitely the "man van," unapologetic in its shape power and carrying capacity. Make mine a '94 Extended length with the 2nd row bucket seats and 2 tone paint.

  • Yeah, I definitely always thought of this as a "man's minivan".

  • the end the angle so proud

  • wow

  • ive always admired all the gm minivans older than 2005 exept the lumina and i would probably buy a safari if they where safer ive been in 1 accedent been chased by a mad man in an international semide. avoided a head on collision on the highway and almost lost it on a bridge so its all about safty for me its too bad that minivan really is cool and different out of this world

  • when you think about it this is a mom truck because its a truck but in a handy roomy minivan shape something a mom would want to drive

  • they probably named it astro so they could do this catchy add.

  • my folks had an 85, it was the first (and only) one that gateway chevy in chicago had in their showroom at that time, just a bottom line Astro CS crank windows, dog dish hub caps and yes it had the buzzer if you left the keys in it. haha it didn't even have a clock

  • I just got an 89 Astro. I love it already.

  • I used to see this commercial during Monday Night Football. I noticed when they were showing the different seating configuerations that one set up included the two rear bench seats facing each other. I diddnt think that was possible.

  • yea all you had to do was turn it around just like in the comercial cause the floor latches were in the same spots

  • I have a 95 (well, technically a GMC) and that thing rocks. other than the front torsion bars i've never had a problem with it. These vans seem to vary a lot in reliability, either u have a good one or a bad one.

  • my mom had an '88 Astro. I still miss it after almost 10 years of it being gone lol

  • we had a 96 and we replaced everything

  • Did the 1985 Chevrolet Astro come with a gentle chime like in the 1984 Dodge Caravan or did it come with a scary buzzer like in the 1986 Chevrolet Sportvan?

  • i put a chrysler chime in my older cars that have the scary buzzer. or the one from the towncars they were nice.

  • Which older cars did you put a chime in that had scary buzzers?

  • i put a lincoln towncar chime into my 86 ford van. and put a chrysler chime from my lebaron in my 93 chevy van. i dont like the scary buzzer there more annoying then scary.

  • Could you post some videos of your Ford and Chevy vans with the chime sound being played on both on them?

  • A buzzer was standard on more basic models of the Astro but GM made chimes an option on the more luxurious CL & LT models.

  • the Astro is not a minivan, it's on a truck frame (No minivan has sat on a full frame) It's called a Full-size van, like the new express and ecoline diesel cargo vans and the 4.3L has always been a truck engine. I used to own a 1985 astro, was great, more than 20 years and never put anything more than a water pump in it. something you only saw on the camaros and other v8s then, mine was a cargo model van, only had TWO seats, and truck bed floor in the back, also no back side windows.

  • ^*IT also had a 4 barrel carburator something you only saw on the camaros and other v8s then.

    Astro isn't a minivan!

  • Very true. I have a 1985 Astro and it has the 4-barrel carb. People act surprised when I tell them it has that. Apparently Astros only had them for the '85 model year.

  • haha yeah they had them, didn't mean they were fast though. but a common problem for the astros is sometimes the transmission has trouble shifting so it'd run the engine into the redline, which actually made it faster if you knew when to back off, and with no govenor i got my astro going over 110mph.

My dream van is still an '85 astro with a 454 engine swap.

  • What is the 4-barrel carb?

  • 4-barrel carburetor. And yes, 1985 was the only year that the Astro had a carburetor on the 4.3 liter V6.

  • But what is the 4-Barrel Carburetor what does it do?

  • the astro actually doesnt have a truck frame. it has sub-frames and there arent any trucks out there that have subframes

  • sharing the Astro's truck-based platform was its sibling, the GMC Safari. While the Astro was referred to as a minivan, it was sized between the Chevrolet Venture/Lumina APV unibody minivan and the full-size Chevy Van/Express. Similar to the Ford Aerostar, it was based on a traditional truck frame

  • Due to their truck-based platform, the Astro and Safari could pull 5,500 lb (2,500 kg) with proper equipment.

  • the astro isnt a truck based platform to be correct... it has a subframes

  • I'ts right ! I own a 92 Astro and it's the best minivan in the world ! Chrysler is Bullshit ! :D

  • I noticed in the beginning of the ad, most of the vans were Chrysler minivans. I bet Chevrolet was trying to say "Chrysler's minivans must die, Chevrolet Astro will be king of the minivans!"

  • i thought the one on the close right of the astro was an aerostar

  • hahaha, notice they say "new size" van instead of minivan!

  • whatever that means lol! It was actually shorter than the Dodge Caravans but slightly wider and higher.

  • neat ad! This was in heavy rotation back in 1985 when the Astro van came out. They were so modern and innovative, Chevy didn't change them much in 20 years. This ad played during prime time sitcoms like the Cosbys, Family Ties, Who's the Boss, Growing Pains. Dad bought one of the first 1985's

  • chevy(chevy) astro (astro) that made me laugh.

  • An interesting approach, naming a car after The Jetson's dog!

  • oh you have got to be kidding me - they didn't actually use this on TV did they?!?!?
