John Mc Artur is not Baptist; he is far better. To imagine, the Baptist churches tried telling me he was a neo evangelico, Charismatic. The man is awsome and has a very clean style of preaching in expository fashion. I love his preaching, to the point, very definative in nature.

I'd say MacArthur is Evangelical-Calvinist, not Baptist. He stresses the chosen / elected / predestined belief unlike a Baptist would do. In fact, I'd venture to guess a Baptist would strongly beg to differ with MacArthur's teaching about predestination.

Overseas, they call themselves "Pentecostals". Same. It's like "pop" or "soda". Now obviously, there are LEVELS of charis/pento, but that's something different.

The main advantage of atheism (other than that it's rooted in REALITY instead of fantasies) is that there is no afterlife. I don't live my life in fear of eternal punishment or hope for eternal rewards. This one life is all there is, and I'm OK with that.

I believe that scripture discloses to us the complete revelation of God to man. No extra biblical revelation needed. The Lord has given us all we need in His Word. However, I must say that if a person does not believe in visions or dreams as something that could come from God at all, they are denying the teaching of scripture. I have on a few occasions had the Lord (not many times) speak to me in a dream or vision which was practical and biblically grounded. It did not contradict scripture.

I know what you mean, however, I've examined Biblical dreams & visions in Scriptures & have noticed that whether it be dream, vision etc. It is purpose driven & in line with His Word. Mostly, it should drive towards hope, rightiousness & holiness. A man told his " hell & back story,how he pleaded with God in hell & God gave him a second chance" First, it goes contrary to Heb 1:9. OK, charismatics at times have gone off the deep end. But to denigrate the gifts of the spirit is innappropriate. The gifts of the Spirit are true and are for the church in this time or any other time and cannot be disproved. Yes there is wierdness in the church. But God DOES speak to those who are willing to listen. Obviously whatever we hear should be compared to the full counsel of God in the Holy scriptures and should not in any way conflict with the Bible.

I think a better description woud be that he is a non-denominational worshipper of god. The bible, the whole bible, and nothing but the bible. Which is typical of most baptist organizations.

How can God NOT give revelation still? He's NOT dead!! I think it wise to be VERY cautious about what one "thinks" God said (other than what's in the Bible which is the FIRST source we go to, of course) but that doesn't mean that the Lord doesn't speak to an individual's heart!!

Actually if you read John's book "Charismatic Chaos" he answers your question in depth. He also addresses the meaning of the verse you just quoted and why most people, in this context, misuse it.

1. Is the term "Sola Scriptura" found anywhere in the Bible? No. Therefore, your principle is itself extra-Biblical. By the way, the 1 Timothy 3:16 clearly refers to the Old Testament scriptures, since the New Testament hadn't even been written yet at the time Timothy 3:16 was written. Does that mean they are "sufficient"--and therefore we don't need to New Testament? Obviously not.

In the Greek, there are two words used for 'other'. one word refers to something of a different kind; the second uses the word 'λοιποί' (loipoi) which means 'the rest of the same thing/or remainder of'...

@davidacarnes1 therefore when Peter refers to those who twist Paul's writings, as they do the other Scriptures, he was also revealing that the letters of Paul are equal in authority as the rest of Scripture (which by the time of the writing of 2 Peter included almost the whole of the New Testament, which with the exception of John's writings of the Gospel of John, his 3 epistles, and Revelation, had not yet been written.

@davidacarnes1 but it was in fact it was in the apostle John with whom the Lord was pleased to let us know at what point the full revelation of his word to his people had been completed; and even the purpose of this giving it to us-all summed up in John's writings, including his witness in the Gospel of John.

The term Trinity is also no where found in the Bible, this however doesn't mean that what the word signifies is not valid.

@davidacarnes1 Up until the fullness of time, the Lord through the centuries up until the final inspiration of the holy Scriptures was causing them to be manifested to us through various prophets. In David's time there was only the books of Moses-the Torah. by the time of Ezra and Nehemiah, what we know as the Old Testament was still incomplete-the books of Zechariah and Malachi and Haggai, for instance, had not been inspired yet.

@davidacarnes1 and through the first century after Christ's ascension, the Holy Spirit was in the process of completing what had begun in the days of Moses, some 1500 years prior to the days of the apostles. but on that island called Patmos, began the fulfillment, completion and perfection of the Holy Spirit's inspired work when John would be set to record what he had witnessed when caught up into the Spirit on the Lord's day. Revelation 22 marked the last chapter of full revelation

@davidacarnes1 let the reader beware who would dare to add to the gospel of Jesus Christ in interjecting his own opinion or imagination or traditions; or should also think to remove those parts of the revelation of God that don't sit well with their opinions, imaginations, or traditions. It is not the first time such a warning has been issued by the Lord. He issued it first through Moses, then through Solomon, then through Isaiah and many other of his prophets and servants.

That is exactly the point that Ive been trying to make clear to so many people in my congegation. I think of what the Lord told his people threw Jeremiah: Ask in the old paths witch is the correct path. It says something like that. Im not american so I dont really read the Bible in English. But I belive its time to go back to the times in witch the word of God was our prophecy, our vision and our fundament. Praise God for his remanent!
