Just to clear it up, He's definitely holding the trombone wrong, Some notes didn't match slide position, and there's no physical signs of any stress on his face even on the highest notes which would at least cause him to squint a bit while playing them.
When first I watch this video, I was in so dark place, but now I find the light - this light it is you! you are jazzy spunky beast. Let me tell you minor story: I was once captain of large ships fleets in great navy. Every morning to arouse cadets I would play your wonderful jazzy improvisation through loudspeaker apparatus to make boost morale. Years later, sailors still tells with me about how this song change their lives. I am forever in debt to master steeezmasta.
I don't believe that this is real. His embouchure doesn't appear to change at all for some of the big partial changes. Also he is holding the horn incorrectly, in such a way that it would most likely affect the slide speed and overall sound. However I could be wrong, if this is legitimate then you are a great player and I would like to see more.
@sethsbone i feel you seth.. I'm trying to play more and get back even to this point again... playing at LaneCC in eugene and just kind of getting back into trombone.. what are you up to these days? where are you playing?
@steeezmasta i got a 5k a year scholarship to u of oregon bro! major in music ed and maybe a minor in jazz studies. think about using 4 bar phrases btw. derek bondy told me that and it helped a lot
Hey man what year are ya? Regardless, good jazz sound. You're playing the changes, (a task for many), good style and it sounded good man. Keep it up. Post more vids. Try these couple of tunes......
k. to try and say that he was actually plyin, there were spots where the pitch wasnt exact. on a recording the pitch wouldve been right on. not saying ur bad, cuz it was well played, but yea. ALSO the trombone clearly is above the accompianament (sorry for spelling) normally in a cd recording the trombone i pretty well blended in. good job.
Take it from someone that has been playin a while. You are good or your age and for the length of time you have been playing. If these jackoffs dont like your playing fuckem! That is the great thing about jazz is it is not Pop or Rock. It doesnt really ned more than a bar full of audience. Anymore than that you run the risk of morons being in the place yelling Freebird! You probably should sit up more and play with a little more air, but having said that if you dont want to then dont.
can you post another video of you playing trombone without background music to finish all the issue of your fakking... prove it.. atleast they all know that your not a drawwing... we will wait for your video.. and if its you playing i will make a good comment about your video... thanks... sorry but your a fake trombone player...
Im fully aware of what circular breathing is. I know enough about it to know that he isnt breathing. Also, you would have been able to see and hear if he was circular breathing.
ive never seen anyyone hold a trombone the way you are in this vid. i think your tone and air flow will improve if you fix the way you are holding that horn.
Hey like the solo but one thing is play loud(well not crazy loud) the only thing worse than messing up is messing up and being timmid if your going to be wrong(and im not trying to say you were wrong in your solo) be wrong and LOUD!!!
"Any damn fool can play loud". Thats what Bill Watrous himself was quoted as saying on a recorded interview a while back. I happen to agree with him, anyone can blow loud, but it takes a master to play controled, with good breath control. Doodle Tongue also takes softer dynamics, and from what Ive heard most people doodle tongue nowadays, including myself.
Awesome job, dude! You've got a killer mellow tone. Plus, you have a very musical approach to soloing. So many high school/college guys are all about posting videos of their quadruple high Fs, but really, they're covering up for the fact that they can't do what you're doing. It's like the 30-something tax accountant with the red Ferarri. Great job, keep it up, and I'd like to hear what you put together in a few years.
Holding notes is not a bad thing. Also, don't be afraid to take a couple beats rest, just keep the cord progressions in mind and always count. You have a great sound, a nice articulation - legato tongue - work on moving your slide faster.
I'm speculating that most, if not all, people posting negative comments have no idea how difficult it is to learn to solo over changes. If you want to say something negative, post a video response of yourself doing something better. The world is full of anonymous know-it-all do-nothings who love to cut others down and lack the courage to do anything themselves.
As someone who is learning to improvise I can say that I wish I were as good as he is. Keep working and keep on jazzin' steeezmasta!
Sounds good man, btw I lifted the first 4 bars of this solo hehe its sounds pretty sweet. @Playboytank: Stop being an asshole - you don't know what you're talking about if you think a beginner sounds like this.
Nice work! I like your jumps! Really smooth transitional notes and good tone. Don't worry about moving when playing! It just means that you're really passionate! haha
