well i really didnt think it could snow so heavily in the far north, seems i was wrong. beautiful flakes :) can anyone living in barrow tell me how much snow does it accumulate in a normal winter? im curious :)
@ncuxap12444 I don't really know, but I've read that October, which is when this video was made, is indeed the snowiest month of the year. Barrow indeed doesn't get THAT much snow. i think this is the reason why a lasting snow cover does not establish until October, although the daily mean temperature is below zero by the 20s of September. There are snows in September - sometimes even in summer - but they are so few that they cannot prevent the temperature from rising above zero. I think.
@NotOnlySelfLover It can snow in Barrow every month and in fact has been known to snow on 4th of July. Friends of mine have told funny stories of cooking outside as it snows and sending film to friends.
I'm looking forward to the snow coming, the temps have been variable since I arrived.
@wynternight777 I hope you get snow soon. Here in Europe, we had snow in the utmost North, and the temperate latitudes are quite cold and rainy now. We had 49°F in Germany, which is not much beyond the summer temperatures of tundra. I don't even want to think what it would be like if the fall we have now should last until next spring (which is possible in West Europe).
Create name... Umm FYI, my mother lived and grew up in Wainwright, Alaska. It's about an hour away from Barrow and is much smaller. She was the highest in her classes and is one of the smartest women I know. And really? He didn't do anything to you. So stick that in your juice box and SUCK IT. Because if you go down into the lower 48 and tell someone you're from Alaska I promise you'll be more noticed.
I think kartikvish meant that he thought barrow was desert, like antarctica. yep. antarctica only gets snow because it blows around and it's there because the little snow that falls never melts. By the way this is OCTOBER?!
Wow that is soooo beautiful!! Wow I really wish I could live in a place like that! :] So is there a period of time that it is always dark? Like 30 days or so?
@Mr2pacalypse Ok, you're obviously an idiot with more bad attitude then knowledge so allow me to school you: Deserts are defined as areas with an average annual precipitation of less than 250 millimetres (10 in) per year. Barrow, on the average, receives around five inches per year, this includes approximately 30" of snow (one inch of rain is approximately equal to twelve inches (305 mm) of snow). Second: I'll be in Barrow in about a month so I'll happily school you again.
well, its because more you are in the north, more the temperature is gonna be cold...and when its below minus 15, you hadly see snow XD('I'm at Montreal.lol.
barrow sucks their is abiusly nothing to do their I lived up their they inupiats up their are fucking pregadice morons they hate white people even the eldors they will stab your backs and plus their is only a swimming pool their and a boys and girls club and thats it nothing else fun to do their was a boy who fucking stole a fourwheel then he hit somekind of sand thing and died because the fucking four wheeler landed on his head and the drugs and alchole up their are unbelievabel
Barrow would be fun to go during the "Northern Light" or the Aurora Borealis" Sorry for the spelling lol but this town is whereWill Rogers went down in a plane crash. Winter is the coldest with temps at -30 or colder. Summer hovers around freezing. Due to global warming alot of times it's warmer. 6 months out of the year it's day light 24/7 the other 6 months it's dark as night 24/7
That's not true about the daylight and dark. Barrow has sunlight 24 hours a day for about two months in summer and the sun never rises for about two months in winter. The north and south poles are the only places where day and night each last six months.
What is the temperature like in Barrow? I'm on the Eastern (Maritime) coast of Canada, and just by looking at this video; I'm going to go out on a limb here, and assume that it's pretty damn cold. What's living there like too?
barrow is really cold in the winter time sometimes they have to cancel school {that rocks} but in the summer {sometimes} it is really nice my mom is up their and it just started snowing IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER haha
Though the average temperature in Barrow is really low, the coldest recorded temperature there was only -56 F (-49 C) according to Wikipedia and weather sites I've checked. It's gotten colder than that in northern Minnesota and of course in many parts of Canada. I was there on the 5th of July a few years back and it was snowing.
by the way you fucking barbados prick, Barrow alaska is a american state, you worthless fucking moron! i'm in canada, and i can fucking tell you that barrow is American, dumbshit! who the fuck taught you about the world, mother fucker!? if you're THIS stupid, then maybe you should regret living, and hang yourself and do us all a big fucking favour?!
Retard. That movie about vampires in Barrow was gay. It wasn't even filmed in Barrow and the movie had only 2 or 3 Inupiaqs and the rest of the people are white!
I went on a nice tour of Barrow one summer. The ice had just floated out to sea the day before. I can see why the ppl North of the Artic Circle win the Eskimo Olympics, that is amazing to see as well.
Im born and raised in Brw.. I like to visit in the summer.. :P The winter is awesome though, it's nice to go back home! I do enjoy the summer's more though.
im brasilian and sometimes i like to watch on discovery channel about barrow canada, mainly on animal planet tv. i would like to know a place like berrow, pls answer, is it hard to know barrow and waht best season to visit ??
I suggest going to Barrow (which is in Alaska, USA, not Canada) in July and staying for three days or so. That's time to take several tours, visit the cultural center, and tour the town. You can rent a car there too, but if you don't mind walking a few miles, don't bother, the town's not that big. Barrow is a magical, awesome place rich in culture, climate, geological and historical extremes.
only a few parts were filmed in barrow the others are filmed in canada I think?? but they used some names in 30 days of night like george olymon {the used to be mayor of barrow} and some other ones too
Filmed in New Zealand, you tards... FYI, for those chronically at a loss for information, there's a magical thing called wikipedia, not that you'd ever remember any of it...
Ive noticed you've been littering your stupidity and nonsense throughout various videos about barrow. From the looks of it, you are in dire need of a life and its unfortunate that you probably wont make the effort to get one. BTW this was filmed in Alaska, if you were really smart, you would know that New Zealand doesnt experiece arctic climates.
I live there and also I am inupiat, go there and stay there for the winter and find out yourself instead of believing in those facts about here

Its not 6 months of each. The darkness is ~65 days (and its not completely dark during the day), and the 24-hour daylight lasts 84 days.
And there's a transition period between them.
