the lifetime sentence in norway is up to 21 years. However we have a different type of sentence called "forvaring" that means that a person who is a danger to the society or is likely to commit another crime will be sentenced to 21 years and further 5 years at a time. The 5 years extra can be extended as many times as the police think it's necessary!! He will most likely never see our beautiful country again! Thank God!

yes, the limit for hard jail time in Norway is 21 years, because we belive in rehabilitation and getting people back out into society, rather than spending all our tax money on keeping people locked up. A life time sentence is usually a loose/loose situation.
In this case, it's different. He's charged under "Crimes against humanity" which is THE most serious offense there is. He may be convicted to only 21 years in an actual prison, but he will never truely be free again. Which is good.

@DailynewzandNature the longest conviction in norway is 21 years, but when he can get somthing called "forvaring" = custody in english ( but i don't think it means exactly the same?) and with this after his sentence is over he is put infront of a board that will decide if he is allowed to go or has to be in jail longer, and this can go on for whatever.

@smops Wow! 30 yeras for The Cold Blooded Murder of 70-90 People. And most of them being youth. I still think his punishment should be to put his ass in Arizona's Tent Prision. Lots warmer than Norway. Plus, he could make new friends that would teach him the fine arts of being as Punching Bag.

@Unklebillybob Yes, our highest punishment in Norway is only 21 years. But when he has done his time, his case will be up in court once again, and he will be sent right back.... These are the times that I wish we had much much higher punishment in Norway

@Unklebillybob I can confirm, born in Norway and currently living here. 21 is the max they can give for any given crime. Disgusting isn't it?

@Unklebillybob 21 years is maximum time in Norway. Remember, before this Norway was a very peaceful country with a very low crime rate. A common murder could reach the frontpage etc. I'm following the news in Norway and as it seems now, this man will never get out of prison. 21 years are maximum but in very special cases it can be more then 21 years. If it concerns serious things like for example: A national security threath and so on. This is a special case and he will never leave prison.
