I dunno about the dollar coin, but I've never come across another one in my life, so I assumed its rare enough (maybe not exceptionally). It is quite a immediately unique coin though, so people might hang onto it, unlike bicentennial or silver coins which don't immediately stand out.

I'm not a huge coin collector or anything, I mainly collect bicentennial quarters that I happen to come across, and any other coin I happen to notice. I have a 1938 buffalo nickle.
