hey awesome video, i have a question, do u think u can use 2 " 2x12" cabs on this one randall head? because i bet its hard as fuck carrying that "4x12" cabinet somewhere
The stock overdrive does feel weak compared to a Peavey Rockmaster (5150 Jr. Rack),
but it's what you make out of it.. remember that you can always build on top of a stock sound with Graphic/Parametric Eq's & Gain stompboxes connected through various positions.. (Hint; FX loop!)
Good luck.. I really miss how silent it was compared to the older RG-ES series,
I was gonna get a tube amp (and spend about $1000 on one), but I think I'm gonna go with either an Ibanez TBX150H or the Randall RX120RH (I don't need the other effects). I don't wanna replace tubes and do all that shit that comes with getting a tube amp. This Randall sounds really good. Nice, tight, distortion.
I'm thinking of going for this over the KH-75 combo amp
my distortion comes from my boss mt-2 but it's good to know this amps distortions pretty nice too :)
but I really hate that guitar, it's not the design (it's a very nice guitar to look at) but then again it is.
I played this guitar (razorback explosion) while testing the boss mt-2 which I bought, and I really disliked it, didn't feel nice, neck stuck too much, didn't sound great... but yeh :)... my opinion
I prefer the R though. That's what I have and I'm not really for frills. The only effects I use are distortion/overdrive (What metalheads should always use :-]), reverb, Fuzz, and wah. Plus I'm typically broke so cheap is good to me if it sounds good. But all three sound excellent, no matter the bells and whistles.
Thanks man. but which is better?? what does the spring reverb usually do.. i also notice that the R is a little bit more expensive than the D?? whats the advantage.. thanks for the replyman
@VulgarOwner so ur saying that if i dont want the effects because i hav my own pedals, i wont get shorted on tone because i bought the cheaper rx120r?
FUCKIN RANDALL ALL THE WAY BROTHER!!! I've had my RX120D for eight months now, and it is better than any Marshall or really any other solid state that i've played. I'm gonna be postin up some Lamb of God covers with that amp soon, just need a camera.
Lol, i like the mention of the Kirk Windstein shorts.
If you like CROWBAR, you should check out a song interpretation i just made for "All I Had(I Gave)"
Does this amp have a really good distortion??? Because it sounds freakin disgusting (in a good way) on your vids but everyone's review I read on Musician's Friend said it doesnt have enough distortion for metal.
I have this amp, and i find that it depends heavily on the quality of your guitar. I have this alexi-200 with stock pickups (soon to be replaced) and it sounds sort of weak with it, but then i have this ibanez 320 with 12 gauge strings and an EMG in the bridge and it sounds brutal.
well ,I believe it scoops out the mids so it gets you that fat nu-metal tone and when you turnit back it gives you more mids so it will sound bit more old school trash like (but I 'm not 100% about it)
i would say thrash has always had a more mid range, razor quality to it; the last thing you'd see are the mids scooped out. whereas the "nu-metal" sound has the scooped mids tone to give a fatter, smoother, greasier sound.
but your description of what the contour knob 'actually' does, is MUCH more accurate brother
do you know what the difference is between the rx120rh halfstack compared to the rx120d halfstack other than the rx120d having the digital effects? and also if you know does the distortion in both of the amps sound the same.
the boards and chip are EXACTLY the same. There is a lonely digital Reverb effect Chip (in the 120R)seperate in the place of the +16 Effects Chip (in the 120D)
You'll get the same type o sound but no extra effects..
sick man. i am getting the R120RH soon. i think its the same, only $100 less but less eq and effects, but ill mainly be using digitech metal master + suppression so i think it would work out well. thanks for the vid. man, sick playing. awesome. later man.
Its got the exact same board in it so you'll obtain the same sound basically but wont be able to do the #14 effect like at the end of this video.. You know that already so no problem!
how much did you pay for this amp? I'm trying to decide between this and the Marshall MG100HDFX half stack, but I'm almost certain that the Randall amp is closer to having the Pantera tone that I'm looking for. Awesome playing.
So... just to be clear on stuff since im thinking about getting this amp, this is straight into the amp without pedals? Cause I really am considering the RX120DHS model
If you are used to the ML shape, definitely get one ;)
But if you have never played one, i suggest you sit down and try it out. I cant play anything other than Explorers, Vee's & ML's because i'm personally used to the balcony like shape ;)
Usually my friends can't get comfortable with my guitars..
Im so jealous about G2 owners. I need my G2 NOW!.. Im selling all the humbuckers in my collection for a RG75G2 amp, and planning to use it as a head for my cab. Whad'ya say? ;)
Why would randall ruin the G2's and very old vintage RG/XP heads :( The hybrid's suck M'BALLZ!
Ya know what...I also have a RG75G2...but have never hooked it up to one of my cabs. Came close today...but never did. I just might have to go try it tomorrow!
A buddy of mine has the ORIGINAL. Fuckin' badass amp, definitely. For me, (I'm a mid freak) I had to keep the mids dimed and the bass around noon, treble at 7-ish (not clock) and contour at about 8. I borrowed it many times. He had a V30 loaded XL cab, as well.
If you want a randall save up for the V2. If your playin with an ibanez prestige you want an amp just as good. Most of your sounds come from the amp not the guitar.
exactly the same except you don't have the FX part, your white area on the front panel is a bit wider and you only have the choice of footswitchable Reverb
Its the same amp but you wont be able to add FX; like the ending on this clip
Good Luck get it if your a minimalist, looking for 2-3 grinding tones ;)
Thank God for you, for not playing just Panteras stuff when playing on the Razorback. Now I know how the guitar really sounds like. So annoying when ppl just play Walk and CFH, they're good but I can't hear how the guitar sounds like. The ML is the first guitar chucked in my hands when i was younger so i got used to it first,

Im looking to buy this Dimebucker pick up, does it sound good while playing some not so heavy stuff like what you were playing, like for instance some Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Metallica stuff?
I'm impressed by the power it pumps, level 1 is about enough for home, can't imagine it on 5 - 6 where air is really flowing through the cab
The cabinet easily survived a high volume RH200 G2 attached. I favor the Jaguar speakers to the Celestion Seventy80's they give with the other budget Randall's. Don't belive the guys which state this amp doesn't have enough bass! It massages your heart while playing!
i'm looking into a new treble humbucker for my guitar, and i was wondering what you think of the dimebucker. what i'm looking for is something that puts out good harmonics, but i also need a decent low end.
The dudes in Pumpjack adviced the Valveking, but i think s.state amps are more in your face. I had a G3 RH150D head amp before this, and the RX kicks its balls.. with wattage and superior tone.
hey dude,im thinkin bout gettin this amp when i get a new one, does it have a good dimeish tone if u know what i mean ,,like a real tight vulgar display of power tone?
I tried to pull off a hardcore tone in this vid but there is a middle & a contour knob, if you balance it well, it gives a dry-sound simular to the Crowbar Time Heals Nothing album sound or a bit like the CFH album sound generally.
If you're in the states go for a RG100ES or Century200 head amp with a XL cabinet. This is the best i could get here..
is a valve amp?

* The +R model has spring reverb.
* The +D model has 16 digital effects
* The Kirk Hammett model has a Gain1 + Gain2 feature with Celestion Rockets in the 4x12 cab.
I'd personally prefer the RX120D amongst them all.

which is better Rx120R or RX120D??? whats the difference?
kukurei 3 years ago
The model which ends with "R" has a spring reverb tank inside, while "D" includes a +16 digital effects chip.
I'd get the D, because the delay/reverb/chorus blending effects come in quiet handy.
I use the Flange Reverb boost at the ending of this video. Good luck.

Think like you drape a blanket over the speakers..
when you turn the knob clockwise, think you move that blanket away. So it gets the tone to sound 'Thick & Fat' or 'Bright & Tinny'

SH-8b Invader Bridge on Alder bodied guitars
Alnico Pro II or the 59' on the neck
I boycott everything other than Duncans! ;)

Grats ;)
Try out the settings below, they are well suitable for metal..
keep the volume of the channel high - like 6 o clock, and level the master volume according to the venue ;)

I play this Amp too. But I have a Peavey Valveking Box. What are settings on the Amp in you Video?!
DerLetzteWhiskey 4 years ago
The dudes in Pumpjack adviced the Valveking, but i think s.state amps are more in your face. I had a G3 RH150D head amp before this, and the RX kicks its balls.. with wattage and superior tone.
The settings if I'm not wrong:
Gain: 10
High: 10
Middle: 2
Contour: 4
Bass: 6
Level: 7-8 with master on 1-2
As for the boost at the end:
Effect No# 14 , with level 9

hey dude,im thinkin bout gettin this amp when i get a new one, does it have a good dimeish tone if u know what i mean ,,like a real tight vulgar display of power tone?
dimebaghudson 4 years ago
I tried to pull off a hardcore tone in this vid but there is a middle & a contour knob, if you balance it well, it gives a dry-sound simular to the Crowbar Time Heals Nothing album sound or a bit like the CFH album sound generally.
If you're in the states go for a RG100ES or Century200 head amp with a XL cabinet. This is the best i could get here..
If yer on budget get it tho, kicks ass.

no problem, you can find the vintage Randall's i told you on eBay for dead cheap! like 150 American Dinars :)
But consider this half stack being about 600$.. A purchase you will NEVER regret ;) I'll msg ya when i record some Darrell stuff..

i didn't understand your question? But..
It comes with two channels, Overdrive & Clean
It also has 16 digital effects including various reverb modules and flange, delay, chorus, vibratone & Tremolo FX. with mixtures too.
This video is the Overdrive completely in its most brutal mode.
The Clean channel is excellent! Just need the treble to be turned down because it brightens up the chords dramatically.

does it come with a clean sound whatsoever? i mean, is it all disturbed..sorry, distorded?
