  • Exactly what I was looking for. I don't have drums but I have this Rubber thingy you put on your knee to hit with your drum sticks and I wanted to actually learn something.

  • Thank you soo much! I've been wanting to learn to play for a long time, and I have finally gotten the nerve to sneak on my Dad's drums, when he's at work. Now I have found someone to teach me!

  • I want drums like Disturbed!!! :D

  • You know what would REALLY be awesome? If you could put text on the video with what he's saying when he's drumming because you CAN'T HEAR WHAT HE'S SAYING. So frustrating to watch.

  • thanks!

  • Jack Bauer!

  • I have aproblem with the rolls RR-LL-R? LL-RR-L?.

Should a wait one silence when I hit a single stroke. It doesn't sound like it in the video but my brain has the tendency to add a silence in there.

  • Also, I think is amazing you're a developer and a drummer. How do you maintain yourself and avoid injury? I have been a developer myself too and just picked up the drums.

  • i have GROOVE PERCUSION AND I PLAY IN A CHURCH WITH IT

  • thankyou i shall try this i only got my drum kit 3 days ago XD

  • Like the Flash once said in Blackest Night, "Do U have ANY idea how HARD it is just to slow down enough to have this conversation?!?"

  • What kind of drums did you use here?

  • @MatzuzakiLois In the video I'm playing a set of Roland V-Drums. They have the TD-10 brain with the TDW-1 expansion kit.

  • checked out your band very good set up and sound iv played the guitar for 10 years but never in a band dont have the bottle

  • i have just started playing drums thank you for posting lessons that dont stop and need cash to carry on i have taken on board and stated trying this stuff out

at the moment i have a acoustic drum kit not very good what would be a good eletric drum kit be to start off on at a good price need to use head phones untill i can get better

  • Need better vocal mic and less compressed video/audio. Also, strange mix of absolute newbie (holding the sticks) and beyond newbie (paradiddles and rolls)

  • u talk a lot

  • @dasautogeschaft That's because it's a lesson. Derp.

  • @BlackSGMan and people with a slow connection won't watch ur video

  • nice lesson, I wish the audio was better though.

  • I just got a drums set and trying to learn. Any advice on how to silence my drums so that my neighbours don't want to kill me?

  • @ellenripleyfan dont play as loud or buy some muffling pads for your kit the prob cost like 20$

  • what i miss is bit oil in the chair :-)

  • very informative and rather sexy!! Aunty Lisa is a lucky woman!

  • Damn..this is only a beginner lesson and I'm having trouble :/

    That means, more practice lol

  • Thanks very much. I'm 60 yrs old, always wanted to learn drums. Got me a set and watching you teach. You're a good teacher

  • Dude he looks like the homeless guy with the golden voice!!!

  • i want a drum kit but my mom will not lets me get one

  • @michael79331 Same here. Parents was getting annoying by saying no.

  • @jedimasterviewtifjoe yea right its because we would rock too hard and be really good

  • @michael79331 ROFL!!!! ikr! they are haters

  • @michael79331 Start smaller, ask for drum sticks. Practice drum rudiments, learn to roll. You can even "fake" a drum kit, play your right hand on a pot, your left hand on a pad, tap your foot for the bass drum. Prove your serious. A lot of parents know they'll buy a kit and six months later it won't get used. Other parents don't want the noise. I used to drape towels over my cymbals and drums.

  • @ScoopDeville04 i did that in about 2 years, my dad got angry and bought me a drum set.

  • @ScoopDeville04

well i have the same problems and i started with chopsticks !! i didn't get to go to a place that sells drum sticks so i started with my chopsticks ! and i now can cover some songs without the drums and i think with the drums too ! and then when i proved to my parents that i can play the drums they agreed for me to buy a kit ! i am now raising money until i reach the price !! wish me luck !

  • @michael79331 buy a elektrick kit i had the same problem but finaly i did get my yesterday

  • @michael79331 soo work and save and u will get one

  • @michael79331

Ask for an decent electronic kit sir.

  • @michael79331 Ikr, i told her i want to play drums and she said you'll never get a drum kit! She wont even LOOK at meh now DDx!

  • @michael79331 Bet you don't want a drum kit any more?

  • @michael79331 get electronic ones:) you can use head phones, luckily i have the garage so i have a real premier berch wood set

  • @michael79331 ask for an electric one

  • I can't see wtf you are hitting

  • I wish I had an uncle to teach me like that!

Just started playing, this was very helpful.

    thank you.

  • dung tek dung , dung tek ,dung , tek dung, dung tek dung, tung tung dung dung jusss

  • thanks a alot!

  • thanks dude this helps alot =)

  • I just bought a drum kit!! and uncle Todd, you rock dude. Thanks for these lessons. im practising...

  • the drums don't sound very good.

  • @serbhaji its because the snares are off, i think

  • Suddenly, I have this little thing on my that I become inspired in playing drums. But my only problem is THAT I DON HAVE ONE. (Is it really that expensive)

  • Bad quality

  • I've never played in my life and this lesson rly helped. I practiced about an hour and got everything in this video down thx!

  • It's actually (accent) right (taps) left, right right :DDDD lmao, but nice your really good.

  • @lmaor0flz YOURE* not YOUR learn the difference eee?

  • I dont think u should use electric drums because 1 you can't do dynamics well.2 The wires that u use can snap easily. And 3 I think the sound quality is bad. Those are my opinions

  • Aunt lisa is awesome!

  • like the way you built the lesson up to a finale..cheers

  • thanks for the lesson! very much appriciated!

  • 2:01 - 2:09 the best :D

  • To learn even more on drumming check out my channel and learn some new things that will make u better.

  • Hmm, maybe i should get a drum kit first...

  • @pat353 i dont wear shoes :)

  • its annoying

  • I think my left arm is lame duck. If this is beginner I have a long way to go :P

Thanks for the lesson... I have now learned that my hi-hat is my the left most pad.... That's why the pedal didn't really do much.... unless I hit the hat.

I play guitar and some piano but this is a new venture. I'm a newbie at drums and got a Roland TD6 with no directions.

  • You are awesome!!

  • thanks uncle todd, this is great video because i want to learn how to play drums, am i want to ask a question i do know how to timing my rigth foot in the bass drum please help me to figure this out...

  • Im curious, is there a reason why ur suposed to wear shoes?

  • Thanks for posting...for a musical instrument retard like myself I have always had a fascination with drums and always enjoy watching drummers play more so than any other part of a band. When I listen to music I listen and focus solely on the drum beats and patterns...much harder than it seems but isnt everything that sounds good? Thanks for posting and thanks to your wife for the great video work.

  • Gooood Uncle Stay Srong Hi Aunt Lisa

  • thanks sir

    it helped a lot

    great creativity

  • Awesome vid man! alot of beginning drummers fail to recognize thee importance of basic rudimentary drumming techniques ! thnx for sharing keep posting vids !

  • Hahaha, Its Seems Like Not Only Your Nephew Benefited Of This Video .. Its A Great One To B Honest =D

  • This is beginner rudiments? when i started my grade 1 its was paradidle, single stroke and double stroke... You are going way too fast for beginners (no offense just a bif of con crit)

  • good lesson , tom Ive mastered the billy jean beat ,but rolls and paradiddles ? i cant stop stiffening the arms when going fast, and when you go round the toms whats the bass pedal doing?

  • thAnk u siR.. i wiSh i weRe ur nEphew. . :)

  • Appreciate this lesson. I taught myself basics and was asked to teach a 10 year old. This helps out to know what to go over for the lessons! Hope to see more!

  • thx am a new drummer and u tought me somthin

  • You think he'd oil his stool

  • god, you need so much hand eye coordination for this!

  • Great video, you make a great tutor for someone who's starting drums.

    Nice kit too (:

  • Very good video. Must be a good uncle to make a video for his nephew! Very nice.

  • Thanks...Where i learn they have the traditional drum set..not the fancy one u have..:D.. Still great video...keep it up sir

  • This helped a good amount i originally played guitar but it seems everyone plays guitar and no one plays the drums so i want to learn how to play and this really helped thanks :D

  • Jeez... how is this the basics?! Clearly looks amazing hard!! Really wanna learn but after seeing the basics, I don't know if I wanna see the advanced lot!!

  • Good drummer . Thanks for the info :D break out with your real drums :P

  • really great vid... only one thing... careful about "using your wrists" too much... i have two bad wrists from playing 8 years the way he's doing it... you're supposed to keep your hands loose and move the sticks with your fingers, it's WAY easier on your wrists and it's alot easier to move and manipulate the drum stick... but other than that great instruction for beginners... i started out on all this stuff and it did me good.

  • @icyHOT568 no u do

  • Thankz!!

  • @scoopdeville04 I really like the way you teach. I have always wanted to play drums since I was 7 years old. Now, after 40years later, I still have the passion to learn. Is there any videos or DVD that you made or can assemble together for me to learn how to play? You would make a great teacher giving lessons. Have you thought about having your own DVD set tailor to each individuals and charging

    Can you help? Please advise.

  • do like me, learn on your own :D i dont do this shit. didn't needed this:)

  • @maidenforever8 lol don't need rudiments to play the drums? you must suck

  • @treefingers68 whell i can play very hard songs.

  • What drum set is this?

  • this is the Elect. Drum version of the drum solo to Crimson Shaw

  • great video....and great uncle,also!

  • Man i cant wait to get into real drum lessons!!! thanks for the head start Scoop :)

  • Umm im new at drums. can you give me advise what kind of drumset is better: an acoustic drumset or an electric drumset?

  • @TheUgotowned it depends on your taste, i think acoustic is better.

  • @TheUgotowned definitely get an acoustic if you're starting out and are serious about it

  • Practicing musicians / learners, if you could fill out my easy 4 question survey for my research project it would be much appreciated. The link is in the info of my video called practicing musicians thanks.

  • Thanks for the tips

  • Awesome, 5/5 stars! Oh wait, crap. Stupid Google changed the layout... I guess I'll just give you a thumbs up. SCREW THE NEW LAYOUT !!! Copy and paste this if you hate the new layout!

  • nice video. thank you!

  • i fkn sik at paradiddles

  • when doing buzz rolls its better to play with your fingers.

  • @JTI82 Yes I Agree

  • Thanks uncle Tod. Good tips.

  • i never even thought about using my metronome haha oops :)

  • i never even thought about using my metronome haha oops :)

  • kay so i just watched this video and went to my drums and mannnn that left right left left left right left left thing is hard :] but i love the challenge. oh and >>>> your really good

  • lol drums uncle todd camera aunt lisa!!!Thanks,my sister wants to start playing the drums and though this is a very basic lesson,it will help

  • @verigar Hey I'm glad at least one person watched the credits!

  • @verigar if u think this would help u should watch spikeydrumer :P lol hes awesome at drumen

  • it lokks like a toy drum set hahahah LOL!

  • its eletric

  • That is NOT a drum set!

  • @hmhmhm98 Yes it is. It's an electric drum set, made by Roland. They're better than acoustic drum sets in certain aspects, but in my opinion acoustic sets are still better.

  • shxt tough

  • Hey Tod, i really appreciate for all videos. I believe you help a lot of people not only your nephew many many thanks. God bless you and your around.

  • @beleudovice if you noticed the wires dumbass you would see why, it isnt just for the best sound, it was just to teach people the basics.

  • All one needs to know is how to do a single stroke. That's what drums are all about, fancy rudiments are for marching bands.

  • @muler321 then you suck ass...

  • He kind of looks like Jay Leno...hehehee... If he's abit fatter and bigger I'll think him Jay Leno!!

  • HOLY CRAP ITS GEORGE CLOONEY

  • awsome!

  • first time drummer here, and that was an excellent video thank u, I hope u have more im off to search for em now! thanks again and God Bless

  • Thanks for the informative and easy to follow instructional videos!

  • any tips to help separate each limb movements so they are individual?

  • You packed a lot into this video but you speed up so fast I cant follow it! Still I will practice some of your beats just very slowly!

  • DRUMS IS HARDER THAN I THOUGHT

  • @peechful how ? it took my sister 1 hour to show me how to play! its so easy

  • @TheHazellover Yes, but it takes years or at least months to learn to play well.

  • @stormiheibeltv no actually dude its how fast of a learner you are.

  • shit its kinda hard at first, but i got the hole bouncey stick thing

  • Great lesson, thanks man!

  • its jay leno 2.0!

  • AMAZING LESSON!

Thanks so much! My friend (absolutely amazing drummer - like you i guess!!) showed me the Paradiddle thing, and drum rolling before VERY briefly, but I forgot it! this video will be an excellent reference for me! Also, like it how it even starts with some grip explanations!

    Cheers!

  • I've added you to my favorites as I think I could learn a lot from you....

I'm an ex drummer and Santa Claus

gave my 6 year old a Roland TD3 for Christmas.

I can teach drums up to a certain level and have done so for the last few weeks - my son's picked it up amazingly fast.

What I would like to share with you (sorry if you cover this in your other videos) is to make sure from the outset that NOT the student does not develop bias with the stronger hand

    Hope that helps some.

    Regards,

    Jez

  • ??????

Then it should say "sicks" (he had an extra 's' at the end)......

Personally, I think he meant to type 'great' but got confused !!

  • beginner drum lessons? seems kinda hard if u never played drums before

  • i got electric drums but ive rented real ones before and i like em bettr... i just feel bettr i dont annoy the heck out of my family

  • ahaha we speak the same language man!! peace out from Sweden!

  • i like your videos and there very helpful, but I'm having trouble doing something and was wondering if you have any tips, some times when i go to do single or double bass pedal with what I'm playing it will throw of my beat that I'm doing with my hand. is there anything i can do to kinda improve on not doing that?

  • @IaMNuckinFuts seperate the bass parts from the rest of the beats at first. getting your feet down pretty good takes a lot of work and the only real solution is time and practice. im sure youll get it in no time though. how long have you been playing?

  • iv been playing for about a lil over 2 weeks now. iv improved a little bit, but still when i go to do off timing beats on bass it still throws my hands off, so what iv kind of been doing is a simple hi-hat and snare beat then in between every hand hit i do a bass, and i start off slow then speed up. kinda what im doing is

    HH-B-HH-B-HH&SD-B-HH-B-HH-B

  • i like ur method it helps a lot

  • good lesson. . .electric drums don't sond very good compared to traditional tho

  • duh??? lol

  • Lol, 2:02 sounds like something from Aphex Twin

  • is this for impressing a chick or playing music in a band??

  • i just bought drums and i will learn how to play watchin ur videos ..thnx so much..

  • oh it's funny !

OK I'm going to practice now :D

  • Lol you must be the greatest uncle ever, making a video like this for your nephew. Good lesson though.

  • Even though im a drummer

    and i know what a paradiddle is*though i cant spell* , i admit that sounded cool :P

  • ohh, yh, thats really for beginners, way to hard

  • thank god! thought about taking my drums back after seeing that

  • lol, im gonna go for guitar, but not acoustic, electric , its easier, and drums cost more

  • Well, it's not easier, playing anything isn't easy to start with anyway, and a decent guitar is going to set you back a bit of cash.

  • its like a beaver

  • Its all very hard!

  • nice drum lesson love it!

  • the drum sounds horrible

  • As a professionnal teacher for 18 yrs,

it is wrong to teach people NOT to use their arms. They are important for playing accents more effortlessly. It's part of the Moeller technique. And they also help you to play more relaxed, But what's strange is that when you play the beats, you are playing the arm for the snare. For example, when playing a paradiddle, play the first stroke with an accent using the arm and all the other strokes with your wrists. Much better technique and effortless.

  • Thank you for the thoughtful comment. I've watched two DVDs on the Moeller technique and while they start out with these HUGE arm movements, when they are done it is hard for me to see that they are using their arms at all but maybe they are and I'm just not seeing it. For anyone interested in grip and motion techniques I would recommend Jo Jo Mayer's "Secret Weapons for the Modern Drummer".

  • @martinlaporte2 I think its actually pretty useless to use whole arm to play accents, like when u playing real fast on snare u dont have the time to use the whole arm and hit it from high i suggest to hit on edge but it still hits the skin it makes real massive sound.

  • @martinlaporte2 You post some lesson videos then.

  • Good Lesson, thanks!

  • :O the right left right right left right left left thing is hard for me

  • Damn you're good bro.

  • ummm... try powering the stick with your fingers instead of ur wrist. youll get more articulation and a greater capacity for speed. at least i do! do whatever works for you, but LEARN IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME! its so much harder to unlearn stuff that hinders you later on...

  • there is many way to grab a stupid stick every drumer LEARN a diferent way or have ther own way of holding a stick u can hold the way u want just he is showing u the good way of doin it so u can devlop ur wrist muscle DUH if u use ur finger u wont rly devlop anything but how to make ur stick bounch that not the point of lesson

  • Actually, According to Jim Campbell who is the director of percussion studies from the University of Kentucky, the movement from the sticks should come from your wrist, not your arms, or your fingers, but your wrists.

  • Comment removed

  • Its better to have a hard learning then to learn bad stuff

  • I'm not a beginner but I've been teaching myself to play drums for a while and didn't know about those snare exercises. I think they'll come in handy, thanks!

  • nice screen name lol.
