  • we need more european track and field sports announcers.

  • is this THE Daniel Komen??

  • This is awsome video. Better than that usain bolt. I ran one mile straight and topped at 3min. and 58 sec. I have ran for more than 2 years and learned alot bout running. Its not bout winning, coming in place. Its about finishing the race.

  • @ Coolcatsarecold

I know,...scroll down and you see that I have corrected me three months ago :D

  • got to love that epo!

  • @MeganDeniseFox6288

It is a mile race. 0:36 is just showing the 1500m split mark. Trust me its obvious this is not a 1500m race. If this was really a 1500m race then the mentioning of El G's finishing time of 3:45 just being 1 second outside the world record wouldn't make any sense. There are also a couple of other logical reasons to prove this is not a 1500m race.

  • @Rumproast I think you are right!

    with 3'45 you can't be the 1st on 1500m

  • @MeganDeniseFox6288

    Oh,I´m so sry you´re right!!!

It is definitely a mile and not 1500m ;)

  • @MeganDeniseFox6288 your so stupid. go on google and look up 1600m or mile world record. Look. see who its held by

  • @MeganDeniseFox6288 u suck kid give up

  • it aint easy to take hicham down he's a Moroccan !

  • Koman doesnt need sprint speed, he can run 3000m in 7.20

  • Hicham the man of the century nobody has done or accomplished as much as he did in this category.

  • Proof this is a mile:

at 0:37 it gives a split time for 1500 (3:30.65) that is also seen in the bottom right corner.

  • komen's 3k record is 7:20, under a minute for every lap. that is disgusting pace

  • komen a 5k runner though.

  • Komen isn't finished yet tho!!!!!

    Legendary comment.

Funny too for some reason. lol

  • WOW...Venuste Nyongabo won the 5000 m in atlanta, and Komen was really good back then, and El Guerrouj smoked them BOTH hah hah

of course they dont have a chance against him in the MILE, only if he's sick or something..

  • yea 3:45 is a pretty slow fucking time for a 1500m

  • @Hockeyrocks229 wow dumbass first of all. you, you probably could barely break 5 minutes if that. Second if you actually payed attention you'd know that it's a mile not a 1500.

  • @pspkid8 yes, that is why i said it was a slow time for a 1500m, that slow time would suggest it was a mile instead of the labeled 1500m, moreover i can run a 1500m in under 5 minutes fyi.

  • @Hockeyrocks229 haha i was just joshing ya, but what's your time for the mile? unless you don't run it?

  • @Hockeyrocks229 not slow for normal people but slow for a olympic 1500m runer

  • oh yeah i bet el guerrouj cant get a sub 8 2 mile like komen thats 2 sub 4 miles

  • What do these times tell you about athletics in the 1990's? Steroids, steroids, steroids. There is a reason no one runs that fast anymore.

  • @pavelkostov

I'm no scientist but I don't think steroids would help in distance running (not like other sports, maybe blood doping). Also, they tested back then too so I'm not sure.....

That's just what I think, so if you have more info....

  • I said it before and i'll say it again... El G's 3:43 mile world record is going LONG. Unless i'm mistaken no one has run under under 3:47 in years (since Alan Webb's 3:46.9 in '07). I predict El G's mile record has at least a decade left.

  • and Wilson

  • Kipketer? Yep. No one has gone sub 1:42 for 800 since he did it over 12 years ago.

  • @knightsxc06 David Rudisha did it recently. 1:41:51

  • @mytime81 he goes 1:41.01 now. new wr

  • i'll break it!

nah, i cant. my best mile is 6:07 . i don't actually know if thats good is it? i ran 2miles in 12:14 so i just halved the time.

  • @knightsxc06 That would make sense... because I'm 14 now and in 10 years I will be in my prime. Goodbye record.

  • @MrDistanceRunner: Good luck to you sir! Just remember that you'll need to average 54 seconds per lap in order to run under 3:43 for the mile. Keep training.

  • how did he not keel over and pass out at the end? he looks like he didn't even run...

  • hmmm idk

    praise Jesus, thank you Jesus!

  • i know right, its insane.

  • i cant believe 3 ppl broke 3:47 in one race!!!

  • judging by how the last 200m was run in roughly 27 seconds, i would say the last lap was around... 54-55 seconds...

    geez.....

  • yeah 53 or 54 (based on it being the last lap and all)

  • According to Google,

    1 mile = 1 609.344 meters

  • yes a true mile hss the extra 18 yards, you see in very few races they have the contenders 18 yards behind the the starting line

  • its actually about 10 yards, or 9 meters, before the finish line :P

  • when they race a mile they ALWAYS start 10.2 yards behind the start finish line!!!

  • unless your on a 440 track of course.

  • hi sorry what comment of mine are you replying to?

  • i think one saying that they start 9 meters back i was ust adding to it.

  • Its metric track nowdays..............so no offence but the variation could be due to this if u compare the 1500m,,,,,,,,,,,,,or just the curved start.

  • @newromantic888 I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. sorry.

  • o is a mile 1609? then y do they call 4 laps a mile?

  • officially its not but 9m isnt tht much so ppl say a mile coz its easier than saying 1609m :)

  • true yea, anyway i didn kno a mile was 1609, thou it was 1600

  • Comment removed

  • yea a mile is 1600m

  • its 1609m but thnks for not being a prick like the other guy :)

  • same thing as a dickhead. you really are a fucking dipshit

  • Hey that wasn't a 1500m race, it was a mile race.

  • nah it wasnt it was 1600m

  • 1600m = mile einštein?

  • 1600m isnt a mile nobhed, a mile is 1609m and about 30cm, this race was: 4 laps wich is 1600m, not a mile

  • OMIGOD, 9m and 30 cm that must be AT LEAST 1,5 seconds more running.

    youarereally gay

  • i dont make the rules, 1600m is not a mile. i sum1 runs 4 laps in 3 42 it wouldnt be a mile world record. the mile race gets started from a line about 9m from the finish line so fuk u nobhed

  • tht was at lorrr555

  • if you run track then look about 9m from the finish there will be a line then there will be a plaque to the side which says start 1 mile. nobed

  • what the FUCK is a nobhed?

Look, you 10 year old cunt, who gives a flaming f... if it's 9 metres more or less, it's been like 15 years since that run.

  • EG is the best

  • i gotta meet him someday.. he's like my idol

  • EG IS God!

  • yeah komen disapeared after a couple of years ,there a new kenyan named daniel ---komen.he runs the 1500 meter.I can't think of his middlename.he ran a mile in 3:48 last year

  • kipchirchir

  • El G is an all-time great. You can't compare all the different athletes mentioned because in each era the targets are different, and that's what they train for. El G is the King of Hill for now, until the next record breaker comes along.

I wish El G had run some 800 meter races against the top runners. I wouldn't doubt he had super range that just wasn't tested or explored. Guerrouj was one of those amazing runners who hold their form no matter how fatigued they are or how tight the race is.

  • track is a passion...moroccan power=el g rules

  • Daniel Komen (Kenya) 7:20.67 Rieti 1 September 1996

  • 3000 meter record is still under Daniel Komen. It has been more than a decade, noone dare to bit it. I don't even think if Komen is still running.

  • It's true that some people are naturally fast because of their heritage, but when it comes down to it, the person who has worked the hardest and loves running the most will win. El Guerrouj just happened to have both of those things XP

  • People don't join track to become rich Dumbass.

  • @prudenshu Except for Africans, duh.

  • @prudenshu

Not unless they are dreaming of Olympic Gold when you can vertually guarantee a blank cheque to fill in.

Becoming Olympic champion is a dream ticket to real wealth and financial security for the rest of your life.

  • i'm pretty sure this is a mile race. at the end of the race the commentator said he was only a second off the world record and he ran 3:45. the mile record at that time was 3:44.39 held by noureddine morceli.

  • that was a 1500

  • Hicham ran a 3:43 he broke that record

  • They always saying that Americans , kenyans and jamaicans are the best runners.

But that's not true , Moroccans are!

  • Aaah...morrocco has one great runner after every 10 years (Aouita in the 80s then El G after him and 10 years down the line). Check out the other countries, hardly do you find the same athletes in consequitive championships! And they always win too. So who's after El G?

  • Ethiopia has forged the best two runners ever in history. Check out Haile Gebrselassie and the former 10k record holder, KENENISA BEKELE.

  • doesn't Kenenisa Bekele currently have the 10000m WR at 26:17?

  • I think he meant to say that Haile was the former world record holder, which he was.

  • seriously he IS very good lol i must agree

    simply amazing

  • im a huge ovett and coe and cram fan buts lets be honest el guerrouj times are so fast that even i cannot dispute his greatness, he actually won the 5000 gold too against bekele for gods sake, fyi he once said that crams world record win against coe was the best race he ever saw. the era of coe ovett cram guerrouj unfortunately will never be seen again. and that world mile record could stand 20 years i kid you not.

  • *trainings

  • el guerrouj is the best runner ever:) look at his trainigs on kingofthemile dot com

  • If Komen had raced El Guerrouj in the 97 season over 3000m, they would have both probably run sub 7:20.

  • that's true....in his only run at the distance he run 7:23:06 that's crazy dude

  • Hey, It's not 7:23.06. It's 7:23.09. Correct it when you're wrong.

  • pwnd!

  • this is a mile, not a 1500
