This is a mile race, because in 1998, El guerrouj broke the 1500m world record in a time of 3min 26sec. So it is impossible that he did a 1500m over 3min and 45sec
This is awsome video. Better than that usain bolt. I ran one mile straight and topped at 3min. and 58 sec. I have ran for more than 2 years and learned alot bout running. Its not bout winning, coming in place. Its about finishing the race.
It is a mile race. 0:36 is just showing the 1500m split mark. Trust me its obvious this is not a 1500m race. If this was really a 1500m race then the mentioning of El G's finishing time of 3:45 just being 1 second outside the world record wouldn't make any sense. There are also a couple of other logical reasons to prove this is not a 1500m race.
@Hockeyrocks229 wow dumbass first of all. you, you probably could barely break 5 minutes if that. Second if you actually payed attention you'd know that it's a mile not a 1500.
@pspkid8 yes, that is why i said it was a slow time for a 1500m, that slow time would suggest it was a mile instead of the labeled 1500m, moreover i can run a 1500m in under 5 minutes fyi.
I'm no scientist but I don't think steroids would help in distance running (not like other sports, maybe blood doping). Also, they tested back then too so I'm not sure.....
That's just what I think, so if you have more info....
I said it before and i'll say it again... El G's 3:43 mile world record is going LONG. Unless i'm mistaken no one has run under under 3:47 in years (since Alan Webb's 3:46.9 in '07). I predict El G's mile record has at least a decade left.
@MrDistanceRunner: Good luck to you sir! Just remember that you'll need to average 54 seconds per lap in order to run under 3:43 for the mile. Keep training.
Its metric track nowdays..............so no offence but the variation could be due to this if u compare the 1500m,,,,,,,,,,,,,or just the curved start.
i dont make the rules, 1600m is not a mile. i sum1 runs 4 laps in 3 42 it wouldnt be a mile world record. the mile race gets started from a line about 9m from the finish line so fuk u nobhed
yeah komen disapeared after a couple of years ,there a new kenyan named daniel ---komen.he runs the 1500 meter.I can't think of his middlename.he ran a mile in 3:48 last year
El G is an all-time great. You can't compare all the different athletes mentioned because in each era the targets are different, and that's what they train for. El G is the King of Hill for now, until the next record breaker comes along.
I wish El G had run some 800 meter races against the top runners. I wouldn't doubt he had super range that just wasn't tested or explored. Guerrouj was one of those amazing runners who hold their form no matter how fatigued they are or how tight the race is.
It's true that some people are naturally fast because of their heritage, but when it comes down to it, the person who has worked the hardest and loves running the most will win. El Guerrouj just happened to have both of those things XP
i'm pretty sure this is a mile race. at the end of the race the commentator said he was only a second off the world record and he ran 3:45. the mile record at that time was 3:44.39 held by noureddine morceli.
Aaah...morrocco has one great runner after every 10 years (Aouita in the 80s then El G after him and 10 years down the line). Check out the other countries, hardly do you find the same athletes in consequitive championships! And they always win too. So who's after El G?
im a huge ovett and coe and cram fan buts lets be honest el guerrouj times are so fast that even i cannot dispute his greatness, he actually won the 5000 gold too against bekele for gods sake, fyi he once said that crams world record win against coe was the best race he ever saw. the era of coe ovett cram guerrouj unfortunately will never be seen again. and that world mile record could stand 20 years i kid you not.
we need more european track and field sports announcers.
