the big thing to understand with freestyle is that even in an impromptu battle, all freestyle rappers have specific words or phrases that they can go to when a good punchline escapes them. part of getting awesome, though, is not making it obvious.

Reef might be a beast, and I certainly love his raps, but he uses lines from another freestyle (or vice versa) in this video. Check out his battle with Plato. He uses the rap zoo angry black dude rhyme there as well as others that are featured in this video. I love Reef and I recognize that freestyle is not always purely impromptu, but I believe that if you are battling in public contests you should at least avoid reusing rhymes, which are obviously NOT freestyle. Cha cha on!
