"Wookin' Pa Nub" really IS "eternally his" for me ... I think of it absolutely every time that "Lookin' for Love" crosses my path in any way, shape, or form.
@Anfmethodjor If you're unfamiliar with the '30s movie character Eddie's spoofing, search YouTube for "Buckwheat" and click on results that show pieces of film footage (black-and-white) of little children. You could also go to Wikipedia and look up "Little Rascals."
Fantastic..........makes me wanna get naked, lay on my couch for 5 years solving every Rubix Cube configuration and put on 30 pounds from eating McBLT's, the burgers that came in those huge non-biodegradable styrofoam packages!
I haven't seen this in years too!! Hilarious. I used to always watch these Eddie Murphy SNL Tapes in my dorm room. Funniest stuff I have seen in my life. %
Hahaha....I was at my lady's house and this song came on and it finally hit me like a slap to the face. Hahaha...."?????" = Betty Davis Eyes....ey but what up with "Una Panuna Bancaaaaaa hiiiiiyyy" Hahaha.
could he come back to snl? He should. I mean what the hex is he doing now? is he spending his time making horrible movies for kids with dumb scripts involved? or what? I don't get it.
@BenjaminT16 I always thought the mystery song was the funniest part of the bit; when interviewed on "The Actors Studio", Eddie said it was his favorite of the skit. "Once Buckwheat sings a song, it's eternally his" was also a brilliant line.
I haven't seen this in years! Do you have the other parts where they announce that Buckwheat has been shot or James Brown's Celebrity Hot Tub? or even better...Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood!
I wish Eddie Murphy would go back to this type of comedy. He truly shines at it.
@pukkalovesya There is a DVD of "Eddie Murphy - Best of SNL" that has the hot tub, Mr Robinson, Stevie Wonder with Frank Sinatra (Joe Piscopo), and these buckwheat vids - plus his SNL host speech after he did "Best Defense"... all are hilarious.
John David Stutts...voted most likely to kill Buckwheat! ......"Do you think that John David Stutts killed Buckwheat?" ..... "Oh yes definately, it's all he ever talked about!" tee hee
@floatersrus What about the insurance company they had? "Liberty Mutual. Because you could die tomorrow. (Like Buckwheat just did)". Joe Piscopo as Ted Koppel. The "Buckwheat has been shot" was a spoof on the TV news coverage of President Reagan being shot. The news kept re-playing over and over and over the shooting of Reagan and they did the same thing here.
@stylesclash101 Ah, you're an idiot. He's black so it can't be blackface. But if he were imitating white trash that would be OK, right? What are you, some white liberal elitist or plain third-rate college educated pseudo-intellectual pent-up with white guilt. Get a life.
@stableshadow How am I an idiot? I said that because the "Buckwheat" character from the original "Little Rascals" was demeaning the my race. He was dumb, illiterate, and had nappy ass hair. Thats how black characters were back in the 1930s-40s. That is where my comparison to "blackface" comes in. So before you insult, try to get the bigger picture..Just watch this link /watch?v=7LMrdcs4ucc&feature=fvw
@stylesclash101 Fair enough -- I thought you were referring to Murphy's parody. That's why I thought you were a white liberal elitist, the type who would totally misconstrue the MURPHY's parody of the character. As to Buckwheat, I can totally see how black people would find that offensive. However, he was my favorite when I was little and I always imagined that of all the Rascals he would be the one that I would want to be friends with the most.
@stylesclash101 He was around 5 years old, so the character is naturally limited. And you should hope to achieve idiocy; you are nothing more than a divisive, mindless drone.
@ElConquistadorNo1 You are a very small minded person to step so low to insult someone on the internet. What the fuck am I supposed to do? Get angry? Why don't do some research on 1930s-40s television and the agenda that Hollywood had to demean African-Americans. Thats what I was talking about. Apparently you didn't understand or you didn't get it? I'm not sure. And I don't care. But I do think you should know what you're talking about before you make such a ignorant comment again.
@stylesclash101 How do you justify your ad hominem remarks? I thoroughly understand Hollywood's degrading portrayal of blacks before the civil rights movement; I know about what I write. It is an unfair comparison you've drawn between minstrel shows and The Little Rascals; if you take your own advice, you know the difference. This is my piece of advisement to consider: if you wish to engage in an intellectual mode of discourse, be prepared to back your words with substantive examples of fact.
@ElConquistadorNo1 You think my remarks are ad hominem? You honestly don't see how the Buckwheat character could be offensive? Even though The Little Rascals was a children's show and the scenes were not done maliciously and seemed innocent; you don't remember any stereotypical watermelon jokes or anything like that? Please dude..you don't want it.
@stylesclash101 Your opening was classically ad hominem, as you utilized a denigrating term in taking issue with my assessment, considered by you to be an insult. And no, I do not perceive the Buckwheat character by any means to be offensive. You also incongruously state that it "was a children's show and the scenes were not done maliciously", then proceed to ask me if I "remember any...watermelon jokes or anything like that?" I know what I am doing; you should plead only for further schooling.
@ElConquistadorNo1 I seriously wish you'd do more research. No matter how many long words you use; you are still not saying anything. But as I stated earlier I don't care if you are on the same page as me or not. Good day.
@stylesclash101 What research needs to be done? You have assumed an ever-weakening position. In the absence of rationale, you are grasping at straws, and coming off desperate. You have failed to back your argument, and are now lashing out. If I am not on the same page as you, perhaps it is because I have turned that page long ago.
