I experienced two insurance systems, one medical system that the government takes care of the insurance, so most of the people get medical care even if you are poor as long as you are the citizen of the country, and US one with private insurance company. I didnt experience much different medical care quality wise, and actually previous one was better. In US, there were too many paper works which I couldn't understand what they use it for??

I don't know what state you live in, but here in Rhode Island, "any" one who can't afford housing or health care can get it for free. Rhode Island is the number one, king of the hill, welfare state. I know for a fact that a good nursing home charges the government an average of $10,000 a month per resident. The reason why it is so expensive is because it is paid for by government. If you need to go to the E.R. the hospital cannot turn you away and can't force you to pay.

MrYouBrian, I was like you. I bought my own individual plan with a high deductible for $70 a month. I put savings in an HSA tax deferred. I now have insurance though my wife and guess what< I still have $900 in my account to use for whatever.
If you get cancer its not likely you'll ever get chemo under new plan.... they would have to pay for millions for people then which would translate into billions if not trillions of dollars the government wont pay.

Allow out-of-state companies to compete, take the individual mandate off of the table, remove the incentives for employers to buy health insurance, and allow people to choose their plans without any mandatory minimums decided by congress.

I experienced two insurance systems, one medical system that the government takes care of the insurance, so most of the people get medical care even if you are poor as long as you are the citizen of the country, and US one with private insurance company. I didnt experience much different medical care quality wise, and actually previous one was better. In US, there were too many paper works which I couldn't understand what they use it for??

This entire problem is due to the fact that the govt introduced Medicaid & Medicare in 1965 which has completely destroyed the free market. Prior to 1965 blue collar workers could easily afford medical insurance.

We are never going to get to solve the problems in Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security if we sit by and don't even try to reform health care.
Health care reform is an integral part of reforming the other problems.
What I would like to see in reform is:
1. Vets allowed to go see a doc outside of the VA and have it covered.
2. No more lobbying on Capital Hill. Let them buy TV time if they want to get their message out.
3. Discounts for businesses providing a program for healthier employees.

We are already bankrupt forever. The Federal Reserve Bank doesn't want the national debt to be paid up. Owning the debt of any country is the same as owning the country. If the debt were paid up, the Fed would loose its' power over the government and the people. It is also interesting to know that the Federal reserve will not accept federal reserve notes in payment to the national debt. If it did, then congress could just print up a note for 11.5 trillion and pay the debt off.

I don't know what state you live in, but here in Rhode Island, "any" one who can't afford housing or health care can get it for free. Rhode Island is the number one, king of the hill, welfare state. I know for a fact that a good nursing home charges the government an average of $10,000 a month per resident. The reason why it is so expensive is because it is paid for by government. If you need to go to the E.R. the hospital cannot turn you away and can't force you to pay.

Veterans also need a little reform in the fact that they should be able to go see a specialist or a family doctor outside of the VA and still have it covered. It is their choice to get a second opinion.
But we are so caught up on falsehoods like "death panels" that we overlook the real needs of reform.
I am sure we could make it better for all of our vets with this one piece.

Cigma CEO Ed Hanway's salary was 12.2MILLION last year; that's 5,583 per week. I read the bill and it DOES rein in the insurance fees & blithe denial of claims, protects people w/pre-existing conditions, helps older people w COBRA payments if they might have to retire early due to illness. It also insures the uninsured. The bill is not getting rid of private health ins, but it has protections for the consumer and reins in expenses.

I think that everyone understands that and agrees. However, I dont think that its because people dont want healthcare reform, but they dont like the means to the ends. Alot of times, especially with older people, they have seen time and time again the government making promises or stating things which do not come to pass, more so then what anyone in my generation has (im only 25.) I think that older people especially are sick of being undermined because they have gotten it alot more then anyone.

Health care is not a human right. Every human being has the responsibility to live a healthy life style. Those who are born sick or suffer injury from accidents or become sick through no fault of their own are the exception. What about people who 'accidentally' get sick. Accidents, Injuries... what about those people who 'accidentally' are infected with a deadly flu or some other virus and need health care?

Well that's what I meant to say. But "socialized" medicine will force those who really need help to the back burner because the government will always be looking to cut cost. The "voters" will come first and the genuinely sick will be left to die. Its' the same all over the world. That is why China imprisons people for the slightest crime and then uses them as cattle for the purpose of selling their organs. China is the model for the U.S.A.

He is just saying that because he HAS health care. Don't you get it? He is covered and sees no reason why he should lose that coverage in the next few years. He cannot imagine a scenario that will take away his health insurance.
But as soon as he loses it, he will understand what it is like to walk in someone else's shoes and he will be scared to death.
Some people do not know what it is truly like to be hungry or homeless.
They assume that life is easy and will always be easy.......

The only reason people are clamoring for national health care is because they don't want to give up their McDonald's super size piggy meals. They want to be able to eat their way into diabetes and not take personal responsibility for their health.

And another thing, the women toward the end is saying the people are dying because they can't see a doctor. No one in this country is denied medical services. Go to any ER, they are packed with people with mild ailments because they know they will not be denied care.

You can get stitches at the E.R. but will be turned away for chemotherapy, heart bypass, etc.
I cannot get my heart murmur checked out or my 4 assessed teeth pulled last winter.
Everyone keeps assuming that anybody at anytime can just go to the E.R.and everything will be taken care.

Government does not "tell" people. The government and the congressman/women should do the listening, and they should do the learning. If the government becomes a government of telling the people what is best for them. A Government of elitists who think they know more. A person maybe more educated than another, but that does not give them the right to make choices for others. Everyone is free to make their own choices, we must learn from our own mistakes there is no better lesson in life.

Would you rather invest in a healthcare system with the government to have that money go towards public roads, schools, etc.. or keep giving all of our money to insurance companies who can give a shit about you. As long as the blood merchants of for-profit "health" care are involved we will lose.
The ONLY option that makes sense is single payer. Like your police? your fire protection? They are not for-profit. We all pay in, and we all share the benefits -- like the awesome systems in England and Canada.
Wake people and stop being stoogies of the blood merchants. Single payer is the way to go.

I don't have any health care now and I can't afford any. If something happens to me, I can show up at the E.R. and they will help for that day but will not help with any elective surgery like a bypass as far as I know.
They won't provide chemotherapy unless you have health care or can pay out of pocket.
If I get cancer I will be turned away and left to my own demise. Which as we all know by now is a slow and painful death...
I saw my dad fade away like that.

MrYouBrian, I was like you. I bought my own individual plan with a high deductible for $70 a month. I put savings in an HSA tax deferred. I now have insurance though my wife and guess what< I still have $900 in my account to use for whatever.

If you get cancer its not likely you'll ever get chemo under new plan.... they would have to pay for millions for people then which would translate into billions if not trillions of dollars the government wont pay.
Now that I think about it the tax payers don't want to pay it either... why should you pay for someone elses chemo or rehab when you've never smoked or done any drugs.... thats fucked up

My dad died from cancer that was caused by asbestos, which in the 60s was so loved they put it in schools and factories, houses.

I like Taiwan's example--
They made a lot of money in the last decade and decided they wanted universal health care but didn't know what to do.
They formed a panel to travel around the world, find out what other countries had and report back.
They didn't like any single countries plan! So they took the parts of the plans that they liked and built their own to fit their needs.
They only took one part of Canada's plan but I don't know which part it was that they liked.
Can't we do the same?

tonemenoic: They don't like the public option, but they love the individual mandate. The individual mandate is not even being talked about as a possible thing to have removed by any democrat in any bill. The public option is something that they might end up getting rid of.
But sure, if the public option is subsidized by the government that would be a purely one-payer system and in that case the insurance companies would be unfairly treated, so if that is all you are referring to then ya.

evan, you make a good point. I would like to see the burden of insurance (cost. paperwork, administation hassles) completely taken off of the backs of employers to free them up to hire more people and expand their companies. Unfortunately that would leave most everyone without medical care. I would rather see the government have to deal with it than employers. What are your ideas on this?
