To be honest, they gave you a hint that the daughter told her mom that he helped her and that they would tell the cops that he didn't hurt them. I just wished that they showed it instead of leaving it up for us to decide. I really felt bad for Forest Whitaker in this movie, besides the mom & the daughter, he was the only sympathetic character in the movie.
Just because the guy is not as bad as "Raul" or whatever his name is dosen't mean he's not a criminal. Even if he helped the woman and daughter, he still stole peoples hard earned money and broke into someones house. You are right that she could've mentioned he helped them but thats about it!
Here's another thing to ponder. Why is it that Hollywood seems to think white people are universal and all cultures can relate to their stories, yet a film with black characters is automatically considered only a black film? Even when the film is not a "black-centric" film. Just look at how black films are marketed as opposed to any white film. Where is it advertised etc.?
