There's a ROM of the final Beta of it, it can be played with Zsnes. It's not illgal-It was never realised properly on sale, so it's alright to Emulatue it. :)
Man I love Star Fox 1-64. One of the greatest trilogies from Nintendo. It's a shame they canceled SF2 though. :( If only released the game after the N64's release date was moved a year.
To make it easier to look up the Game Boy game simple titled "X" on YouTube, type in "Ekkusu Game Boy" or "X Ekkusu". I've uploaded some game play videos of it and a couple of songs from it.
supposedly Argonaut was the reason for its abandonment due to ridiculous licensing issues. Considering what a money grubbing stubborn asshole Nintendo is, its unlikely we'll ever see a release of Starfox 2, but who knows.
It wasn't Argonaut, it was only a misunderstanding of the N64's release. Which is strange, because Nintendo could have just released the game after the N64 got delayed.
@SonicTheJackrabbit didn't stop DKC 3 from coming out. There was probably also alot of "well, let's just put it in StarFox 64", which is what happened with Mario 64, which was originally a SuperFX game.
Except the case with Super Mario 64 was understandable. And like you said, it didn't stop DKC3 or Super Mario RPG. So Nintendo could have released SF2 at that time.
@SonicTheJackrabbit but didn't because of the SuperFX 2 chip and Argonaut, like I said. DKC 3 and Mario RPG didn't use Super FX chips. Whether you realize it or not, the Super FX chip was quite expensive and it's likely Nintendo didn't make ANY money and possibly even lost it (which Sega suspected them of doing when comparing the chip to the 32X) and there was no good reason to take a hit to sell SNES systems when the new one was coming out. The Super FX was a system seller, period.
I played starglider on the commodore 64/128 system. In the game there wasn't really much to go on for missions, just shoot down as much as you can with out getting blown up. Not very fun, because it really didn't have any direction.
Now, comparing that game to "Starfox", They did a much better job with that platform game. There was missions to fly thru, and bosses to defeat, which gave the gamer a feeling of direction. Plus I loved the 3 different paths you could take, to get to Andross!!
@Glumglufs One of the causes of Zoda's Revenge: StarTropics II to not become very successful was being released for the then-outdated NES. Starwing 2 would have failed for the same reason. Many gamers were curious about how powerful later game consoles like the N64 can get.

Abandoning Starwing 2 was a bad idea. Shame on you Miyamoto!
