  • how come you put a gaelic song about seaweed with a anime from japan or whatever?

  • @skaetzle Seaweed in the song is an innuendo about a woman

  • Hmmm now we need some Irish anime!

  • Comment removed

  • why did people give you a minuts when it IS gaeilge?

  • and they keep giving you minus day after day :D

    cool :D

  • You will find that people give neg feedback, not based on right or wrong, but on attitude. "Jesus, would u people do some research!" for instance comes across as being a little bit rude. Considering it's on a subject that is fairly specialist. I won't even go into his second post... comes across as condescending and arrogant.

Being snappy and rude will automatically put barriers up in peoples heads... information and knowledge is easier passed with an understanding stance and cool demeanor

  • even your Wikipedia refers Gaeilge to be one of three Gaelic languages

  • I was born and bred bilingually in County Donegal, in Irish we say Gaeilge, but your arguing in English, therefore it's Irish, or Irish Gaelic. Gaelic by itself refers to Gaeilge of Ireland in Ireland, however outside of Ireland, Gaelic refers to Gáidhlig of Scotland 90% of time. So its best to check what the locals say. Incidentally in most of British Isles they refer to the language of the USA as American English or just American, due to varying spelling, grammar, and pronunciation conventions

  • if your American Irish, and your having to use Wikipedia to look up your own ancestral language...well go túri naibh mo chat ni diabhal agus ni cat

  • Other than the fact that this song is all about seaweed.....

    the chorus is translated as:

Seaweed from the yellow cliff, Irish seaweed

Seaweed from the ocean, the best in all of Ireland

  • Don't know who sing this....but her voice is haunting......

  • The singer is Méav Ní Mhaolchatha from the group "Celtic woman"

  • This is really well done :D The video's rythm goes almost perfectly wtih it. I love how you tied in some of the scenes together, like when Rinny got released and collapsed onto Squall turning into Raine and Laguna. It works together really well =D I especially loved how you put Garnet's falling backward as the start of the bounce =3

  • Thanks!

  • it 's celtic woman, the singer is meav Ni Mhaolchatha who sing Dulaman

  • I Like this one.

    Make tears in my eyes.

  • This has probably been asked B4.

    What video is this ????

  • Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts.

  • Yes, Gaelic is an awesome language. I wish I could speak it. (I tryed singing this song once. It ended with me yelling cuss words asking why the hell I couldn't say the words. Lol)

You did a good job with the video. FF is awesome. I'm playing FFIX right now. I've had it for years but never got a chance to finish it. ANYWAYS.

Good job. YAY. (adds song to faves)

  • Thanks! FF9 is one of the best.

  • Hell yes! Freya and Beatrix are the shit.

  • mmmmm if you want to get technical they arnt talking about seaweed.... they are talking about seaweed merchants.... Dulaman maorach and Dulaman gaelach. two families one with a son the other with a daughter.... they fall in love... rich seaweed loves stately seaweed but their familys hate each other.

  • Yes, this is a beautiful Irish trad song. And yes, I like the animation. But sadly, the animation does not match the story the song is telling....

  • this is awesome..

  • I've heard several versions of this song.

This is by far, the absolute best !!!!!

  • I absolutely love this song...

But it makes me feel weird for some reason.

  • her voice is amazing, it is so rare to see a song like this.

  • Dúlamán is my fav. gælic song...the word means seaweed, and i think it's about people who were seaweed pickers. My gælic is bad.

  • That's true, it's about sea weed. This is why I think the animation and the song don't go together well. Though the music and the animation are both of very hight quality.

  • @SiriusDelirious It's a love song about being in love with a seaweed seller, so it goes just fine. Singing about how wonderful the seaweed is, "the finest in all Ireland" is an obvious allusion to the woman's beloved.

  • aren't they talking about seaweed? haha

  • Yep!

  • freaking awesome! faved and 5/5!!! loved it!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks!

  • i have sex to this song i love this song

  • realy did not need to know that

  • awesome version of the song

  • Go Raibh Mile mah agat!!

  • Thank you for making this. It's one of my favorites.

  • :) No problem!

  • I don't speak Gaelic, just this song.

  • I'm okay with it. Not exactly fluent...

  • Ta failte romhat!

  • Dulaman na binne bui dulaman gaelach!

  • Awesome lyrics, huh?

  • Dúlamán na farraige, b'fhearr a bhí n'Eírinn!

  • Tapadh leat

  • Go raibh maith agat?

  • Very nice! I like this one a lot.

    Dulaman is a great song.

  • Thank you!

  • beautiful simply beautiful:D

  • Thanks!

  • Good upbeat version to rival Clannad's but my favourite version is Altan's with Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh. All in all a great song, the beauty is that it can be sung in so many different ways.

  • Altan - Dúlamán (at Cambridge folk festival 2003)

Dulaman records a conversation between two seaweed collectors.

Dúlamán Gaelach has a beautiful daughter whom Dúlamán Maorach wishes to marry.

Gaelach is not exactly thrilled with the idea of having Maorach as a son-in-law,

but Maorach elopes with his daughter anyway.

    That's the song all about...

  • can i get this song please ^^

  • It's on the Celtic Women album "A New Journey".

  • #7 on the CD

  • An awesome song, i think i do prefere the clannad version but this one goes well with the clip.

P.S. FF7 is the only true final fantasy in my books

  • agree with both things you said ahah

  • No problem. As a song it has no meaning but is believed to have been sung while peole collected seaweed for food in Ireland. It was also used as fertilizer for fields. Just as a side point. From your Utube name VALENTINE. St valentine was buried in Dublin! Ian

  • Caidé thug tú 'na tíre? "What did you bring from the land?"

Arsa an dúlamán gaelach Says the Irish seaweed

Ag súirí le do níon "Courting with your daughter"

Arsa an dúlamán maorach Says the stately seaweed

Chan fhaigheann tú mo 'níon "You're not taking my daughter"

Arsa an dúlamán gaelach Says the Irish seaweed

Bheul, fuadóidh mé liom í "Well, I'd take her with me"

Arsa an dúlamán maorach Says the stately seaweed

  • Bróga breaca dubha The Irish seaweed has

Ar an dúlamán gaelach Beautiful black shoes

Tá bearéad agus triús The Irish seaweed has

Ar an dúlamán gaelach A beret and trousers

Ó chuir mé scéala chuici I spent time telling her the story

Go gceannóinn cíor dí That I would buy a comb for her

'Sé an scéal a chuir sí chugam The story she told back to me

Go raibh a ceann cíortha That she is well-groomed

  • Tá ceann buí óir There is a yellow-gold head

Ar an dúlamán gaelach On the Irish seaweed

Tá dhá chluais mhaol There are two blunt ears

Ar an dúlamán gaelach On the Irish seaweed

Rachaimid 'un an Iúr We'll go to Newry

Leis an dúlamán gaelach With the Irish seaweed

Ceannóimid bróga daora I would buy expensive shoes

Ar an dúlamán gaelach Said the Irish seaweed

  • Chorus (after each verse):

Dúlamán na binne buí Seaweed of the yellow cliff

    Dúlamán Gaelach Irish seaweed

Dúlamán na binne buí Seaweed of the yellow cliff

    Dúlamán Gaelach Irish seaweed

A'níon mhín ó Oh gentle daughter

Sin anall na fir shúirí Here come the wooing men

A mháithair mhín ó Oh gentle mother

Cuir na roithléan go dtí mé Put the wheels in motion for me

  • Hi, the 1st written and recorded version of this song was collected in carlingford in Co. Louth. It is a song about seaweed. There is an old black and white film recording of a very old lady sitting outside her house singing the song. It was part of the collecting of old songs done around the 20`s and 30`s country wide. This was to stop the loss of Irish folk song as they were never wrote down, just passed on by memeory. Clannad do a good version. This version sounds like the Celtic woman.

  • Cool! Thanks!

  • Actually, can you tell me, who sings this version? its the very traditional version, i like it! :D

  • Why is there an asia animation with this irish song?

  • Because I made it that way.

  • Unusual

  • I was just saying to my daughter yesterday that gaelic music is the most beautiful, and that Japanese anime is the most beautiful. Thank you for putting them together; just as lovely as I had imagined!

  • Thank you. ^^

  • Ooooo.... perty song. Don't understand a word, but why have to when it's so perty?

  • Exactly! ;)

  • well i won't translate it all cause it'd take to long but the title track is a song about two dúlamán, or seaweed merchants, one of whom is trying to win the hand of the other's beautiful daughter. it's a famous traditional song from Donegal.

  • That's cool. I don't really need it translated, so don't worry about it, hun. It's just pretty to listen to. ^^

  • Aye Irish Gaelic is really very pretty, ain't it! Tá sé go hállainn!(It's beautiful!)

  • I <3 this song!

  • Taithníonn an video seo liom go mórmhor!

  • Um, you too!

  • LOL, my Irish must really have gone to the dogs. :D

Just saying how much I like this. <3

  • Ná bí buartha, tá an gaeilge sin díreach i gceart, ach amháin cúpla fada!! :D

  • Is núacht deas é sin, cinnte. ^__^ Scríobh chugam message má tá suím agat... ach creidim go bhfuil mo chuid Ghaelige beagnach caillte taréis triocha bhliain. :/

  • This animé /song combination is inspired beyond belief. I don't know any of the films or games the animation comes from, and before this I was only vaguely aware of the song, but the way the two have been married in this video is just divine. It's like blue cheese and red wine, the peanut butter and jelly of YouTube. I hereby nominate Mrs. Valentine for a YouTube Oscar, if there is such a thing. This video makes me tingle every time I watch it, which is disturbingly often. o_O

  • I really like this video. I want to learn this song. *is learning, slowly*

  • lol Thanks!

  • I wanna learn Gaelic someday. ^^

  • Ah, don't we all.

  • very good film nice job

  • Thanks!

  • oh I'm jealous of your gaelic TheRagtimePrince:P I wish I knew that language but in Poland there is in no place to learn it :(

    btw.cool vid:)

  • Hopefully, I'll be putting up videos soon teaching Irish but if not via videos, I'll teach it through comments or emails or something. I'd love to learn Polish, I plan to soon enough.

  • Polish?:P

but why? just because or maybe you have some special reasons?:>

  • Well, since there is such a large Polish community in Ireland nowadays, particularly in the town that I live in, I think it would be a good idea to learn some Polish. You'd never know, they might be talking about me hahaha! Also it would give me an oppurtunity to teach Gaedhilge through Polish rather than English...

  • well, if so I gues it's a great idea!!!

polish girls like I needs irish teacher, oh yes!:D

    Ireland<3 Gaedhilge<3

  • well, if so I gues it's a great idea!!!

polish girls like I needs irish teacher, oh yes!:D

    Ireland<3 Gaedhilge<3

  • ill teach u irish haha

  • Thank you.

  • Is aoibheann liom an t-amhrán so, ach go hairithe an chríoch, fuaireas critheanna síos mo dhromlach!

  • Dulaman is an old Celtic folk song about families that harvest seaweed. This recording is by Celtic Woman, but there are other versions out there (Anuna and Clannad to name a couple.)

  • GAELIC ROCKS!

  • I must wholeheartedly agree.

  • Can you please tell me from this music is????

thank you i love the song:P

  • This is an arangement of a song called Dulaman that was written by Celtic Women.

  • it is the celtic women version but was actually really first performed by Clannad, the song is much older than we realise.

  • This is Celtic Woman.

  • This is from Celtic Women's album 'A New Journey'.

  • Are the scenes of Laguna and rain from FF8 I dont remember seeing them but then again its been years since i played the game.

  • Yeah, they're FF8.

  • sorry that was poorly worded i meant is the scenes actually in the game or is it from some where else. I just dont remember seeing them but as i said its been years...now i want to go play FF8 lol

  • Wow you did a really good job on this! FF8 rocks lol.

btw i cant help but laugh cause the songs about seaweed. LOL

  • I find this form of it rather nice but I still like the celtic woman video where you get to see them singing they are like angels!!!!

  • I love it ^^

  • Thanks.

  • i like celtic woman

  • People really. Have you people never heard of Clannad

  • Oh yes!

  • What game was the clip at 2:26 taken from?

  • Dirge of Cerberus. That's Lucrecia.

  • It's mad to think that people who aren't actually Irish like trad, considering I know few that're Irish that like it! And yeah, Altan's is better.

  • Personally, I like the Dulaman by Altan best, but this version isn't so bad....Hehe....The Seaweed man....(I'm now lost in my own train of thought)

  • what movie did his video come from?

  • Advent Children. Also various video games.

  • it s Irish.

  • Yep.

  • wow..that was cool! nice job!

  • Thanks!

  • Gaelic isn't the correct term for Irish, it's Gaeilge, Gaelic is a general term for Irish and Scottish and all that jazz, not Irish itself though. If that makes sense.

  • gaeilge. thats how you spell it. thanks. i forgot.

  • It's Gaelic, and its beautiful, its from the new Album Celtic Woman-a new journey which they recorded at Slaine castle live celbrating the traditional GAELIC music (Gaelic is the language of Ireland its considered the same thing as 'Irish' but Gaelic is the proper term for it.

The video is beautiful : )

Well done I couldn't have chosen a more beautiful song for such beautiful graphics : )

  • Thank you!

  • Well done.

  • Thank you! Finally a comment on the video!

  • some one tell me how to post vids!>.<

  • Just click "Upload Video" in the top right corner and fill out the information.

  • thanks!!!! i got it now! (can you watch and coment my vids? i dont have a lot of vews and coments yet)(i would be very happy!)

  • The song is a bit weird. It's about Sea weed yes but I think it is surposed to be some sort of personification of a man who works at the sea courting a woman. And It's Irish not Gaelic.

  • Irish and Gaelic are the same language.

  • no there is just no such thing as "Gaelic"

  • Trust me, I live in Dublin...

You can Google it if you want.

  • well I do to smart arse

  • Ummm...yes, well I assure you that there is such a thing.

    Damnaigh tusa.

  • it's just the generalisation of the languages spoken in scotland and such.

  • Yep!

  • Clannad and Altan's versions of Dulaman are better than Celtic Woman's...Celtic Woman are too commerical imho

  • my choir did a song called dulaman...it has something to do with seaweed lol

  • Okay, so maybe I can't understand it. I still love the song. Its got a nice beat. :D Also great video!

  • Heehee. Thanks.

  • Just in case anyone is wondering, this is Celtic Women performing this song. They are amazing - a must see and hear! Buy their CD. Guaranteed to impress.

  • love thant song great work ;p

  • Thanks!

  • The word 'Dulaman' means Seaweed in Gaelic. This song is about one seaweed-gatherer asking for another gatherer's daughter to marry him. However, the girl's father does not care much for the young man.

  • dulaman means seaweed

  • does ne1 no wut dulaman means?

  • I heard someone refer to it as 'The Seaweed song' but I couldn't tell you what Dulaman means. @_@;

I'm curious as to what the lyrics mean period. XD

  • Yes, 'Dulaman' means 'seaweed'. I also know that it's about two groups of seaweed pickers argueingh amongst eachother, but that's all I know...

  • XD

So the song is one (or two) giant argument/s? XD

    That's classic! XD

It sounds so great too! XD

  • im actually an celtic and gaelic singer thats why i lyk it
