You will find that people give neg feedback, not based on right or wrong, but on attitude. "Jesus, would u people do some research!" for instance comes across as being a little bit rude. Considering it's on a subject that is fairly specialist. I won't even go into his second post... comes across as condescending and arrogant.
Being snappy and rude will automatically put barriers up in peoples heads... information and knowledge is easier passed with an understanding stance and cool demeanor
I was born and bred bilingually in County Donegal, in Irish we say Gaeilge, but your arguing in English, therefore it's Irish, or Irish Gaelic. Gaelic by itself refers to Gaeilge of Ireland in Ireland, however outside of Ireland, Gaelic refers to Gáidhlig of Scotland 90% of time. So its best to check what the locals say. Incidentally in most of British Isles they refer to the language of the USA as American English or just American, due to varying spelling, grammar, and pronunciation conventions
This is really well done :D The video's rythm goes almost perfectly wtih it. I love how you tied in some of the scenes together, like when Rinny got released and collapsed onto Squall turning into Raine and Laguna. It works together really well =D I especially loved how you put Garnet's falling backward as the start of the bounce =3
Yes, Gaelic is an awesome language. I wish I could speak it. (I tryed singing this song once. It ended with me yelling cuss words asking why the hell I couldn't say the words. Lol)
You did a good job with the video. FF is awesome. I'm playing FFIX right now. I've had it for years but never got a chance to finish it. ANYWAYS.
mmmmm if you want to get technical they arnt talking about seaweed.... they are talking about seaweed merchants.... Dulaman maorach and Dulaman gaelach. two families one with a son the other with a daughter.... they fall in love... rich seaweed loves stately seaweed but their familys hate each other.
That's true, it's about sea weed. This is why I think the animation and the song don't go together well. Though the music and the animation are both of very hight quality.
@SiriusDelirious It's a love song about being in love with a seaweed seller, so it goes just fine. Singing about how wonderful the seaweed is, "the finest in all Ireland" is an obvious allusion to the woman's beloved.
Good upbeat version to rival Clannad's but my favourite version is Altan's with Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh. All in all a great song, the beauty is that it can be sung in so many different ways.
No problem. As a song it has no meaning but is believed to have been sung while peole collected seaweed for food in Ireland. It was also used as fertilizer for fields. Just as a side point. From your Utube name VALENTINE. St valentine was buried in Dublin! Ian
Hi, the 1st written and recorded version of this song was collected in carlingford in Co. Louth. It is a song about seaweed. This was to stop the loss of Irish folk song as they were never wrote down, just passed on by memeory. Clannad do a good version. This version sounds like the Celtic woman.
I was just saying to my daughter yesterday that gaelic music is the most beautiful, and that Japanese anime is the most beautiful. Thank you for putting them together; just as lovely as I had imagined!
well i won't translate it all cause it'd take to long but the title track is a song about two dúlamán, or seaweed merchants, one of whom is trying to win the hand of the other's beautiful daughter. it's a famous traditional song from Donegal.
Is núacht deas é sin, cinnte. ^__^ Scríobh chugam message má tá suím agat... ach creidim go bhfuil mo chuid Ghaelige beagnach caillte taréis triocha bhliain. :/
This animé /song combination is inspired beyond belief. I don't know any of the films or games the animation comes from, and before this I was only vaguely aware of the song, but the way the two have been married in this video is just divine. It's like blue cheese and red wine, the peanut butter and jelly of YouTube. I hereby nominate Mrs. Valentine for a YouTube Oscar, if there is such a thing. This video makes me tingle every time I watch it, which is disturbingly often. o_O
Hopefully, I'll be putting up videos soon teaching Irish but if not via videos, I'll teach it through comments or emails or something. I'd love to learn Polish, I plan to soon enough.
Well, since there is such a large Polish community in Ireland nowadays, particularly in the town that I live in, I think it would be a good idea to learn some Polish. You'd never know, they might be talking about me hahaha! Also it would give me an oppurtunity to teach Gaedhilge through Polish rather than English...
Dulaman is an old Celtic folk song about families that harvest seaweed. This recording is by Celtic Woman, but there are other versions out there (Anuna and Clannad to name a couple.)
sorry that was poorly worded i meant is the scenes actually in the game or is it from some where else. I just dont remember seeing them but as i said its been years...now i want to go play FF8 lol

The song is a bit weird. It's about Sea weed yes but I think it is surposed to be some sort of personification of a man who works at the sea courting a woman. And It's Irish not Gaelic.
Just in case anyone is wondering, this is Celtic Women performing this song. They are amazing - a must see and hear! Buy their CD. Guaranteed to impress.
The word 'Dulaman' means Seaweed in Gaelic. This song is about one seaweed-gatherer asking for another gatherer's daughter to marry him. However, the girl's father does not care much for the young man.

Altan - Dúlamán (at Cambridge folk festival 2003)
Dulaman records a conversation between two seaweed collectors.
Dúlamán Gaelach has a beautiful daughter whom Dúlamán Maorach wishes to marry.
Gaelach is not exactly thrilled with the idea of having Maorach as a son-in-law,
but Maorach elopes with his daughter anyway.
That's the song all about...

Ar an dúlamán gaelach Beautiful black shoes
Tá bearéad agus triús The Irish seaweed has
Ar an dúlamán gaelach A beret and trousers
Ó chuir mé scéala chuici I spent time telling her the story
Go gceannóinn cíor dí That I would buy a comb for her

Go raibh a ceann cíortha That she is well-groomed

I heard someone refer to it as 'The Seaweed song' but I couldn't tell you what Dulaman means. @_@;
I'm curious as to what the lyrics mean period. XD

Yes, 'Dulaman' means 'seaweed'. I also know that it's about two groups of seaweed pickers argueingh amongst eachother, but that's all I know...
