i was in the audience for this!! i was only 11, but it was on a school outing to the tyne tees studios to see the programme being made - had a good look at it, but cant see me in the audience, which is a shame, i wouldve liked to see me again as an 11 year old!! p.s. the year was 1981, not '82!
"There Goes a Tenner" is a song by the British singer Kate Bush. It was released as a single on 2 November 1982, the third to be taken from her album The Dreaming.
love love love this song the first time i heard it,hav all of kates music and this would be in top ten of her songs for me,b4 its time, love the vocals and beat
She's just delightful. Funny, obscure, melodic, satirical, and toe-tapping all in one song. Look up "genius" in a dictionary and you'll find a picture of Kate Bush defining the entry.
Yes another interesting song frome kate gets your imagination going, I doubt real robbers would be so sentimental n emotionally vulnerable as the songs lyrics suggest, an odd song 2 write! she sings about 10 shilling notes, we used 2 vote for him, is this refering 2 a politician or something?.. obscure, diverse lyrics with old worldly sentiments that only exist in black beauty or the like!etc, but good.
Very true, but Bucks fizz were only famous for the ripped off skirt gimmick, but mad (and fantastic) as she is, Kate Bush will always be famous for being Kate Bush.
What annoys me is how people go, ooh, Kate with a mockney accent. Like she's really taken part in a bank robery. People need to understand that in Kate's music is a story, and the accent is part of the act.
This is how one has back up dancers without looking like a talentless douche bag like Madonna and the rest of that MTV bullshit that followed right around 1982.
i am a MASS HUGE KATE BUSH fan , WATCH kate bush LIVE in 79 and SEE how much MADONNA has copied KATE BUSH movements ( she used heaps of KATE moves in Express yourself!!) MADONNA is not so original she copy's from way back , now watch Boy George's video" To Be Reborn" look familiar does it ?? who's PLAYGROUND ?huh Madonna is just an old grissel whore , she has NOTHING on kate Bush's TALENT !!! so go watch Kate Live in 79 & Boy George and then you wont FAIL :)

As much as I love Kate Bush, I think this is one of Kate's weake ones. But her dance routine really improves it.

This is undoubtedly one of Kate Bush's underrated songs. Love the bouncy rhythm and the unique style of vocals :)

Well, this would have made me run out and buy it!
She clearly decided in 83 that she'd made a shed load of money for EMI and so she was going to have some fun.
And so - Kate Bush does ska!
As bizarre as it is brilliant.

totally agree. bloody stupid idea for a single but like it anyway..

Madonna owes so freakin' much to Kate Bush. ;)

Madonna? Why?
suntorytime 4 years ago
Because Madonna based her act on Kate's.
Show's good taste, if you ask me.
Frisbieinstein 3 years ago 4
Um. How the hell did Madonna base her act on Kate? Examples, please, as I fail to see the similarities.
