It was great experience... BUt the people looked worried, or even scared in the street...I tried to hide my pictures... so that was ok. 3 years later NK official said to me to don't take that kind of pics again if I return... DUring my trip, and austrian professor was catch by police coz he took a market in picture...
No, it was in 2003 so not suspended yet. And also, we stopped there because I requested it for my ethnological study.... North Korean governement can be really concialliant when it comes about its culture... ;p
Yes, the tours from South Korea have been suspended, but depending on nationality and occupation, most people can still take a regular tour and see more of North Korea flying in from China. I'm a U.S. citizen and I had no problem. As long as you are respectful and open-minded, I see no problem going there. I am not commenting on the politics here, but I loved the people I met, I wish the best for the people there, and I really hope I can go back and meet them again someday.
That is true...At least the tour guides give a nice idea to tourists of their country. Its also very nice of the country to establish hotels and to give fair tours around the country.
Great compilation, some really nice photos. I just got back from DPR Korea and I will be thinking about it for a long time. I am American, but was allowed in to see Arirang. We were only allowed to stay for 4 nights, and were much more restricted than you were. We did get to go to the mausoleum, which is rarely open for Americans. What an unforgettable journey.
Let me laugh! It's in North Korea that there is no freedom of expression, organization, religion, or just move, think, and even eat. This is fascism. If you are a fan it's not my problem.
I'm no fan of white supremacy, french imperialism or white ethnics judging the rest of the human species as subjects thru the lens of their racist objectatifications.
wow this is so odd but amazing none the less. i've looked into visiting but its extremely difficult since i'm american. of course there are the moral issues involved but it happens anywhere you go.
It is possible, but a expensive... But you can. You can see directly on Koryo tour (NK agency) or try to find the NK ambassy (or deleguation) in your country and write them irectly. On some forum on internet about "trip in North Korea" or so, you can find informations... Me I just knocked at the deleguation door!
That must have been surreal. Could you speak to people on the streets or were they afraid to speak to you? Did you feel that even though you didn't have a guide on a few days that you were still being watched by other foreign minders? I would have loved to have this experience. Too bad you cannot openly keep in contact with everyone you met. Great video.
Thank! At the time I went in NK I wasn't able to speak korean. Most of the people prefer evitate us, but some other were happy to see us, so a conversation would have been posible! Also, the time without guide never exced one hour. I didn't felt specialy watched when I was outside... But I was, I learn that later!
And for finish, oh yes, I would love to can keep contact, and meet again some of the person I've met here...
Cause I was at the point to return in 2007, and a NK deleguate in Paris said to me "Next time don't do like last time, don't take pictures in the street!"... Kinda scary!
It seems completely ridiculous to play western groovy guitar music to pictures of North Korea.
