This is the film shot by Ottocar's partner at Moroso in 2004 and only came about thanks to Kevin Jeannette.. We did a feature with Derek Bell for Octane magazine and had a lot of fun!
Its good to see these cars on the track,,however if the 917 was realy racing he would be light years ahead.I grew up around that car(Vasek Polak)Great to see the Name ..Martini Rossi again.
the sitting position is very strange, you are almost lying down in the cockpit, and your feet are in front of the front axle of the car, so you had better make sure you dont have a head-on with anything, hehe. The dash board cover was covered with pool table felt.
we actually tested our 997 gt3 rsr at moroso a couple of weeks before our test at sebring. and we just ran the 12 hours...it is not as easy as you think it would be. i am still recovering from how little sleep i got in the last week.
True, but at Sebring in 1970 it was the little 908 driven by Revson and McQween that had to carry the Porsche standard as the big brother 917 had eaten it's cam gears...
Are you daft? Since the M3 does race at Le Mans in race version, you can find it's best lap times. Now look up the 917 (which holds the distance record, never to be beaten again) and comapre. No idea why you're comparing a BMW street car to a racing protype; must suggest some logical thinking problems.
Dude I was replying to Elvis Dogg who said an NSX is a substitute for a 917 and I was saying an M3 kicks an NSX's ass for half the price. I wasn't comparing an M3 to a 917 dumbass.
I have always considered the Acura NSX to be an improved version of a Ferrari Dino 246GT. The 246GT is a very nice sports car. I do have one. However, the NSX is far superior. Now I suppose some Ferrari owners or Ferrari owner wannabes will propose having me burned at the stake.
The 917 Langheck is so difficult to drive at Vmax (400 kp/h) that the drivers had bloddy hands if they are back at the pit
Der 917 langheck ist so schwierig zu fahren bei vollgas (400 km/h) das die fahrer blutige hände hatten wenn sie zurück an der box waren, da sie soviel korigieren mussten

i like to see that these cars still move and not get "old" in a museum... go on, have fun
colin4747 3 years ago 5
hi colin!
i feel the same, watch my videos. not sure how long we can continue.
the cars get more and more expensive and you dont want to ruin them.
the spare parts are more difficult to obtain and getting very expensive.
the maintenance is getting expensive to,
and there are not many mechanics who are able to maintain the cars in racing condition.
but until now we still have fun and enjoyment.
and the other thing to preserve those cars is, dont drive them to the limit.
80% is fast enough!!
ottocars 3 years ago
Yeah, 80% of 235 is 188... so I'd say that is still plenty fast enough...

The 917 and 935 are just gorgeous! Not 2 familiar w/the 908 but I'm sure it's a beast like the other 2.
ju87divebomber47 3 years ago
the 917 was developed from the 908 its the older and less powerful car . driving it is much easier than the 917.
ottocars 3 years ago
The 917's design is phenominal (almos 40 years old). And it's promoposter design from 69.. is like 200x

Man that cabin is a tight fit... Wouldn't want to get caught in that in a fire or a big crash.
Beautiful cars though. Absolutely beautiful.

Hardly, A Lemans winning German race car and a street legal Jap car which would gets it's ass kicked by a BMW M3 for half the price.
