Lived there myself, during the great train derailment of the early 70's, the great ice surge, any for anyone who know the great flood, with the awesome fire about a week later.
My understanding is that they did away with the Olde Tyme Christmas.
This video only shows a small part of Port Hope. You don't see town hall which is about a block south at the end of the video. And most important... what used to be the Port Hope Car Wash & Ice Vending between the two train bridges.
Around 1:00, when you were walking Ontario Street, the Midland Railway once ran through there and down between the buildings. When I was a kid, the trains still went across Walton street!
Port Hope is awesomer then alot of other places. It may not have great stores, but it has a great beach, beautiful houses, great fishing, and an awesome make fun of it name. Port Dope
Actually Port Hope is a very beautiful historic town, it is great for fishing, antiquing, specialty shops, and just enjoying a great environment. If you want a party spot Toronto is very close by :)
I was born in Port Hope. When I was younger, the railway ran down Ontario St. Turk's was a great place for a milkshake, and my grandparents lived beside Mann's Shoe store on Walton Street. I now live in Amherstview, but still visit P.H. often. Being born in a railway town,I became a rail fan! Port Hope is so different now a days as far as the shops go. Buildings look almost the same though.
My "Keeler" ancestors came from Port Hope. My great-grandmother moved to the U.S. at the turn of the century. I've always wanted to visit Port Hope and hope to do so some day. Thanks for the tour!
cops in this town have longer records then the residents!!
