That mavs team was really great. Tarpley is my all-time favorite player but he was, to put it softly, stupid. He could have been the best big man in the league, his performance in the '88 playoffs alone i believe showed exactly what he could do. The problem is, he dragged a whole franchise with him and it took them a lot of years to come back. What a waste!
"...just go to the locker, get a swhower, we're all gonna ride the same plane you know?" LOL!!
The greatest Lakers commentator IMO. Will always remember the one and only Chick Hearn. RIP You are greatly missed my friend. "This game is in the refrigerator... the door is closed, the lights are out, the eggs are cooling, the butter's getting hard and the jello's jiggling!!"
@janellsis Blond Mavs point guard was Brad Davis, who the Lakers originally drafted in 1978. In 1988, LA and Dallas went to the 7th game of the Conference Finals. Good team, but their defense was easy for LA to carve up. They seemed to have more highlight reel material against them than almost any other team. Still, LA wasn't a great road team that year and lost all 3 in Dallas in the playoff series. I uploaded recaps of 3 of those 88 playoff gms between the teams. Check my vids.
The two teams met in the Western Conference Finals in June. 4-3 LA. Home team won every game. That was a very good Mavericks team. The Lakers were just better that year, and in '86 and '84. Dallas had won 55 games the year before and were poised to make their run but ran into a red hot Seattle SuperSonics team that knocked them out 3-1 in the first round. Much like Golden St. beat Dallas a few years ago. Not their best moments 20 years apart.
yes it was, the mavs had won 11 in a row before losing to the lakers here. Infact their previous loss before this one was to boston on my mum's birthday and nonplayerzealot was right this is chick dubbedf
CBS would have never hired Chick; they were too pro-Celtics. Frank Glieber and Hubie Brown were they only two CBS announcers that gave the Lakers the respect they deserved

Brad Davis looks as if he were physically ill after the Kareem to Scott play @:57. It was, after all, sick.

You can tell the announcer was biased towards the Mavericks.

@janellsis Mike Smrek. I think he was only on the squad that season. He was a random 7 foot hack that you stick in during garbage time (sorry, Mike).

Thanks for the upload. This was a weekend game where the Mavericks had a big winning streak and were red hot, right?
I remember Dick Stockton saying, "Just name the time and place and the Lakers will take care of you."
They had already beaten Boston and Detroit on prime time. The repeat was in order.
