And would have been wiped out by a single RAF Typhoon wasting all the time, materials and effort put into its production... Well done Adolf, you PLEB!
@fateephat Because it was an ally to the Allies! it used up so much manpower and resources, and was of such little tactical/strategic value, it wasnt worthwhile. hmmm?
@stubbostubbs By the end of the seige of Sevastopol Gustav had destroyed; costal defence guns, fort Stalin, Fort Molotov, White Cliff (an underwater munitions dump), Fort Siberia, Fort Maxim Gorki and attacked multiple infantry attacks to help the gremans. A waste? not when you campare the weapon to what it acomplished. 47 shells total for the seige were fired against those targets, and caused alot of damage for one weapon.
@akulaknight Sevastopol: 30 October 1941 – 4 July 1942. Soviet airpower was nil so you got away with it. What could you have done with all the steel used in its manufacture and mantenance, its manpower, the time and resources used to repair/maintain/move/hide the thing? It was a one trick pony that just consumed scarce resources. Ended up hiding away less it be splattered by airpower. A Bit like Scharnhorst and Tirpitz.
@ryoga401 By that time planes could only pierce through basic armor. (Like 10 mm armor? I don't know what the average is :P) Anyway, it had 6 Flak weaponry. Basically, a monster that was well defended.
@Gumpa2 As i can see there is cannon that shoots somewhere, there are some men that pulling its shell and also watched documentary about it.I am sorry but it existed :p

little david was larger in diameter of projectile and also in terms of damage of projectile but the 80cm gustav was large. and by the way the pic of the shell you showed is incorrect. That is a 16 inch or 406mm at Aberdeen's outdoor museum, one of the only surviving example of the 7.1 ton concrete busting shells is in the Imperial War Museum in London
Big = risk. Nazi realised that it doesn't matter how powerful is the tank, if British flew their bomber above this tank and drop couple of bombs, the effect is enough to blow away all their war budget. The Japanese didn't think that way and blew away their fund on Yamato battleships, marching them toward enemy onslaught without air support. The American bombers can't wish for better target than that.
@Alamandorious So refresh my memory, who exactly helped the US defeat Japan? Real allies, not just someone else Japan had already picked a fight with. Its not like we invaded countries who had small defensive forces at best without warning or provocation. Japan had us out manned, and out gunned. They were fully armed and ready for war while the US was preparing for war while still hoping for a peaceful resolve. The Civil War was a no win situation...everybody lost.
First of all, Japan was forced into attacking America via economic pressure caused by, you guessed it, America. Check that out, you'll find it's true. I don't agree with the surprise attack, but they didn't pick the fight. Secondly, Australia and Britain, AND CANADA were involved in the pacific war as well, although I will grant you that the US had more manpower involved. 3rdly, outmanned and outgunned only until your industrial complex geared up, they couldn't compete.
I was taught that the standard weapons being used were having little to no effect on the "Gustav" gun, and not having a weapon with enough power to destroy it, they sent in 2 or 3 small ground force teams in to deploy a container of thermite. Even if it didn't burn through the breech, it would cause enough damage to stop it from ever being fired again. But this isn't new information. It was declassified while the facts could be verified, and the people who did it were still alive. Can't be true
this is an earlier model of the russian scarab nuclear tank that was fully mobile and moved like a spider but projected a 200mm "fat man" bomb over 200 miles but the blue prints were stolen by the americans during the cold war and were rejected for approval on the build in the U.S.A
@TheMaxiEX Even if it was it would have been crap. Easy target and slow fireing. One shot every 15 mins or something. Waste of resources I imagine. Hitler was into big guns, perhaps compensating for something :-P
Awesome. Say what you want but the Germans especially from that era were unbelievably smart and daring. It's heavly because of several Germans that this country was ever a superpower and has maintained such a dominance in the world
@BadJokeHD yes, because railway guns cant move freely, so this would fix the problem. but it would of been an major inconvenience, ten "maus" tanks is about the same worth
The last one on the right is not a Tortoise but a French ARL-44. The supposed monsters are photoshopped (badly) from some post-war Soviet tank chassis combined with various cannons and naval turrets. Even so the proportions are ludicrous. If the Maus had nearly 200 tons than the supposed Landkreuzer P.1500 wouldn't have had 1500 but some 15.000 tons.
@david1513 The Sherman was indeed way smaller, but the Tiger's accuracy and opticsmade the crew able to hit the Sherman from miles away. The Tiger was indeed quite big,but it doesnt make a differencce since the sherman only could destroy a Tiger within 60 yards(and hit it on the rear). The Tiger had strong hydraulics in the turret, because it had to turn a really heavy gun, you wont stop it yourself.and it doesnt matter that the turret falls of (if this is true) because tank dont drive upside down.
@TheBlackhawk123 Don't forget the ridiculous disparity in armour thickness. An 88 shell could punch through a Sherman's hull like tissue paper - there's a reason they called the things 'Purple Heart Boxes' and 'Tommy Cookers'. On the other side, a Sherman's 76mm shell couldn't do any kind of damage to a Tiger's armour except from the rear or at extremely close range. The one saving grace was numbers. The Shermans always outnumbered German tanks and could knock them out simply through attrition.
@Carandini Indeed. Most of the later models of tanks (Panther and onwards) were almost unbeatable for allied tanks. The western allies trusted on their airforce to take out German tanks, and with good results. Also the German tanks had huge mechanical problems and fuel&ammo shortages. A lot of tank crews blew up their tanks before being captured. Just a little portion of the German tanks were destroyed by allied tanks.
@Borobodur69 its true.....i am self a russian....but i think so too.....amerikans lie too much about him...and in europa they told too much lies too (kz, weapons, nuernberger prozesses...usw...)
Expensive, impracticable and a great target if they could ever get the stupidity built to begin with. Like the entire Nazi war machine and the little dicks that manned it this is just another phallic footnote from the greatest clusterfuckers in history.
@WhiteKnockers Do you not realize, America stole thousands of Nazi blueprints and used Nazi rocket scientist's to create stealth fighters and jets, and a lot of other stuff as well? Also I sure the hell would like to of been in a Tiger or King Tiger tank instead of a Sherman Tank. The Nazi war machine was the worlds number one most powerful military force on the planet at that time its already been proven so need to explain. It took almost all of Europe and America and some others to take it out

i think this got a good defense.
Plexpara 3 weeks ago
@Plexpara Personally I feel that hypothetically, Germany should've built more battleships than waste steel on giant impractical land ironclads.
They already had railway guns. Those could travel from battle to battle much faster than the gun being mounted on a huge tank.
And I doubt all the oil in Ploesti could fuel those, much less one.

Am D-Day hätten sie sicher gut die invasions Flotte bekämpfen können. Jedoch kurz oder lang durch Bomber zerstört worden.

lol you have no idea what this thing has been in the war....
Goitonthefloor 3 months ago
Awesome. Say what you want but the Germans especially from that era were unbelievably smart and daring. It's heavly because of several Germans that this country was ever a superpower and has maintained such a dominance in the world

Waste of money and resources...Find me a bridge that could endure this monsters passing. Very impractical.

@MrSoundSeeker thats why the project canceled. But primarly they should be used to attack London from France!!

WHY DID NAZIS HAVE TO LOSE!!! WAA WAA!!! IMAGE WHAT WE'DE HAVE TODAY!!!!!
mitchg2008 3 months ago
@mitchg2008
Um... Because they were mass murdering, racist, genocidal maniacs?
The nazi's had MANY MANY fantasy designs that were way too expensive for their use and way beyond the technology of the time.
But anyway, i still refer to point 1)
They were genocidal maniacs...
Good enough reason if any to deal with them.

@Clint945 uhh ok but if I had blond hair, blue eyes and was tall I would've sprinted over to their side.

Correct me if im wrong, but the P1500 would be more like a mobile and armored huge Artillery than a tank or?
BadJokeHD 4 months ago
@BadJokeHD yes, because railway guns cant move freely, so this would fix the problem. but it would of been an major inconvenience, ten "maus" tanks is about the same worth
LivingInTheLimeligh7 3 months ago

TheBlackhawk123 4 months ago
@TheBlackhawk123 Don't forget the ridiculous disparity in armour thickness. An 88 shell could punch through a Sherman's hull like tissue paper - there's a reason they called the things 'Purple Heart Boxes' and 'Tommy Cookers'. On the other side, a Sherman's 76mm shell couldn't do any kind of damage to a Tiger's armour except from the rear or at extremely close range. The one saving grace was numbers. The Shermans always outnumbered German tanks and could knock them out simply through attrition.
Carandini 3 months ago
@Carandini Indeed. Most of the later models of tanks (Panther and onwards) were almost unbeatable for allied tanks. The western allies trusted on their airforce to take out German tanks, and with good results. Also the German tanks had huge mechanical problems and fuel&ammo shortages. A lot of tank crews blew up their tanks before being captured. Just a little portion of the German tanks were destroyed by allied tanks.

BjarKie87 4 months ago
I wonder if this will addit in world of tank. that woot by cool :)
One1164 4 months ago
Expensive, impracticable and a great target if they could ever get the stupidity built to begin with. Like the entire Nazi war machine and the little dicks that manned it this is just another phallic footnote from the greatest clusterfuckers in history.
WhiteKnockers 4 months ago
@WhiteKnockers Do you not realize, America stole thousands of Nazi blueprints and used Nazi rocket scientist's to create stealth fighters and jets, and a lot of other stuff as well? Also I sure the hell would like to of been in a Tiger or King Tiger tank instead of a Sherman Tank. The Nazi war machine was the worlds number one most powerful military force on the planet at that time its already been proven so need to explain. It took almost all of Europe and America and some others to take it out
