  • when you're 20, you write about 20 year old things. when you mature, your music and lyrics will likewise. unless you're an asshole which Mr. Mellencamp is not. he still rocks and still writes the BEST songs, he just writes about more mature things now.

  • How long did it take to pick out all these pictures and the video?

  • Huge fan since he was little Johnny Cougar, 1980. Chestnut Street Incident, etc. However, I must say this song and his recent CD just isn't what it used to be. Theres no "Scarecrow" or "Crumblin' Down" or "Paper in Fire" on LDL&F.

It isn't just JCM that's lost the writing edge - It seems rock is for the young. They just lose their ability to write good tunes with age. I certainly can't write songs like when I was 20! Thx anyway, JCM. I'm glad ur still rockin'. "A" for effort.

  • Wake up people, This is awesome, what do You want from Your spouse or significant other! If he is washed up, the internet does not exist!

  • thx 4 posting!!!..i have this album on my itunes...i LOVE IT!!!...some ppl say its dark.....lol!!! ppl who don't know great music!!...just open up your heart and ears and LISTEN!!, JOHN MELLENCAMP LIVES!!!:)

  • Grew up on Mellencamp. He was the man. Had some awesome summers with his music as the theme. Shame he's become a boring washed up old man.

  • @Nd179 ya dude i agree

  • John Mellencamp Rules.

    GO WEED

  • Great video for a fantastic song. There is something new to catch each time you see it.

  • the drummer did a great job so did john mellencamp playing guitar

  • except John didn't play the guitar for this song....

  • este video é muito ruim nota zero

  • grande John ! Sei sempre il numero UNO!!!!

  • This is a great song...reminds me of the Everlys. John's new album is GREAT! GET IT!

  • Your Right it does have that flavor

  • It is the Everlys Bros song

  • Does anyone know who directed this video?

  • great jam

  • This was on the LLWS commercial i love this song

  • This isn't the official video!

  • Love this song and the video is perfect. It enhances the lyrics. It's something I want to keep playing over and over again.

  • ive never heard this kind of music before but when i first heard this song i feel in love with it...and i understand it very well..he did a good job with this song.. i really like it

  • great rock n roll!

  • A sweet Rockabilly tune from John.

     I love it

  • Who is the woman singing with him?

  • shes from little big town

  • What a great song! Back to his roots. You can hear his influences in every note. Great job, John!

  • You should check out the song County Fair from LDLF- very strange song where he sings about his own murder- eerie but that's why he's so good.

  • とても素敵な音楽ですね

  • hell yea, it's great music.

  • This is such a sweet and sentimental love song! Truly romantic! I absolutely love it!

  • Yes that's the feeling you get when you listen to the song but the leftist video kills that feeling.

    Great song though.

  • Don't be dimantled and rattled up too much over the video. It correlates various emotions of love with the song. It is a well made video to those who understand the meaning of it.

  • Very well thought out

Actually he isn't to thrilled at all lol

  • I'm not a big JM fan, but I really like this song. Good Vid too.

  • me either but ran upon it accidently n I love it

  • When I first heard the song, could've sworn it was Tom Petty!

  • Each image is so brilliant that I want to watch this slowed down so I can really see each one - that is Woody Guthrie isn't it? Oh, also great song and one of the best CD's ever.

All you people on this comment list cuzzin' and making no sense - grow up. Channel your anger and pain into something constructive.

  • This song has such a fabulous hook and this video is genius. Was it industry or independently made??

  • Are there so few descriptive words in the world that people must use profanity and gutter words?

  • holly shit this is just about the worst song ive EVER herd im sorry but i dont care what ppl say to that cuz i hate this song

  • Great job JM, and Karen sounds absolutely amazing on this, too!!

  • Sure would feel good to feel good again...oh my sweet love!!

    the new album is Killer!

  • We need more artists like John. He actually has something to say. Great video!

  • Beautiful Song and wonderful direction. Still images that mean so much within the context of the words/music. Inspired.

    Good Work!

  • Absolutely beautiful....been a listener for

    30 years ( I believe ) and I'm always moved

in a beautiful direction and I have loved the

ride. Now, my 10 year old son has grown up

listening. It's all so relevant....Can't wait to see him in concert July 18th in Detroit. He always puts on a fantastic show!

    Jule

  • I'll buy it. T-Bone give us Mark Heard!!!!!!

  • Another great song by mellencamp. New album out in a week going to be great.

  • Sounds like a combo of the Everlies and Buddy Holly. Good stuff! Unexpected.

  • The strumming and beat patterns that sound familar is known as "Tejano" or what we call "texmex". A country sound originated by mexican texans. A flavor heard by the Everly's, Buddy Holly, Bobby Fuller, Ritchie Valens, Los Lobo's, etc. Peggy Sue & I Fought the Law being my favorites. Wouldn't be surprised if T Bone didn't write a lot of this music. The work he's done with Roy Orbison and Elvis Costello...brilliant! Check it out if you really want to hear his art.

  • Great images, nice job.

Love this song and can't get it out of my head.

  • Great video, great song! John Mellencamp is always re-inventing the wheel with his words and music.

  • no offence but that's the lamest metaphor ever heard. You'd be more creative just saying "I wanna blow him".

  • No offence but .... just wondering what crawled up your butt and died. Sounds like you're pretty angry at someone/something and instead of dealing with your issue this is how you are dealing with, my guess, a relationship gone bad. Get over it as nothing can change the past; life is too short and you might surprise yourself that the the next time you listen to this song, you might hear what others are hearing, a really nice love song.

  • Actually I'm quite content. I have had personal issues with the cougar and like most who have to deal with him personally. We have nothing good to say. So I'm just joining in on the fun. If you heard what other colleagues were saying, my remarks wouldn't bring you to the assertions and psychoanalysis. In fact you wouldnt think of insulting me at all you'd be joining in! Ironic what a set of blinders can do to the ones out of touch. Glad you enjoy his stuff and hopefully for him..buying as well!

  • No Offence ninelives19..but bon jovi, poison, and mellonhead? It sounds like you're the angry one. Spent the last 30 years escaping your troubles glued to the MTV screen? (which of us has our head up our ass?)It looks as though you've missed out on reality! Been spoon fed all the shit music MTV feeds ya! Where's the quiet riot and twisted sister? where's the motley crue? Pathetic no doubt. I can have my 16 year old email you some reality if you'd like. Without a doubt she could enlighten you.

  • ninelives!!! I just saw the motley crue on your second page!!! I knew it!!! It's totally cool though, I'm actually kind of used to it. There's 3 downers that work in the studio next door and for their sake...we all pretend we like shit-metal here. Plus I used to bang a lot of those big haired-metal heads back in my glory days. Although quite dim and shit for taste...they gave great head no doubt! Take care sis and no offence or hard feelings I hope.

  • your really gay dcoy

  • That's really creative mihal! Such an economy with words! I anticipate your next colorful syllable with great eagerness! The type that takes things personal I see? I suggest the next time you get personal...you make an effort to stay in your own weight class. I wipe the floor with pea-brains like you. I normally call upon my 12 year old to handle my lightweights for me. Even he can come up with better than "you're (not your) really gay". :)

  • its people like you that make the world a shitty place.

  • Spoken like an imbecile and a hypocrite. Did I make any personal remarks? Yet you insult me? Great, I got a fucking baby with shit for brains pulling on my dick! Go back to school shit for brains and learn about music and what it takes to be a decent human being. Insulting someone with double your intelligence quotient...you're insane.

  • were all insane. fuck you.

  • The world is a shitty place? A real smart child here people.

  • just parts of it. the part where u and dcoy live is the shithole of the earth. son of a bitch.

  • I guess you can call the entertainment capital of the world (LA) the shithole of the earth. But most people will disagree. One thing most people will agree on is that by reading your comments, most people will concur that you truly do have shit for brains. Like the dcoy, I feel sorry for you, ya poor bastard.

  • Mr Burnett and Mr Mellencamp: Brilliant!

  • There's something in this music that has been missing for a while in his albums. I think he found it again, and I feel this album, if this song is any indication of the quality that awaits us all, will probably be considered far and above his best.

Hell, this song is probably the best love song he's ever written.

  • hey john, lovin` the new song & video... u rock luv...

  • I like it a lot!!!

  • brilliant!!! am so excited that JM's coming to Perth, Australia. Plan to be the first to get tix....

  • I've heard a few of the new songs and believe this will be Mellencamp's best album and music since Human Wheels. I just hope the songs make it to radio and people find the album at Starbucks.

  • good old John, never lets you down. great film clip & lyrics. album will be fan bloody tastic

  • Love the video and the song!!!!

  • Me too!!!

It just keeps running through my head!!

I got no complaints about this song...none, lyrics are simple but loaded with meaning.

  • Great song! I can't get it out of my head! Can't wait for the new CD!

  • Besides producing this new album for cougar, T-Bone should have lent a hand with the rhymes as well. T-Bone...a bona fide icon no doubt.

  • LOVE IT!! LOVE IT!!

  • This song rocks!...Sounds like John was channeling Buddy Holly when he wrote this...

  • john claims he was channelin' the late Dewey Cox. Maybe so but I think this song was co-writen by Nigel Tufnel. Nigel has some cool videos here as well.

  • Mr. Mellencamp knew what he was doing when he added Karen Fairchild to this "sweet song"

  • AWESOME - as usual for JM - he never changes and hope he never does - loved him in the 70's, 80's, 90's, etc etc etc... BIG FAN, always will be.

  • This song just makes you want to move! Love it!!

JM and the band are always at their best! Can't wait to hear the new CODE format disc when I pop the 2nd disc into the DVD! JM is always ahead of the game! Looking forward to Oklahoma City!!!

  • from a term used in the 60's....this song is "righteous'!!!!

  • great word and right to the point.

  • I love the retro-feel to this song! Looking forward to the new album and the Detroit concert July 18th!

  • John and his band never fail us do they?! Looking forward to the new cd, as is everyone else I'm sure. Thanks John

  • never fail us and probably never will

  • so true, so true!

  • Karen Fairchild of Little Big Town sings harmony on this song. I think she did a good job on this song. I bet VH1 Classic will also play this video.

  • Very cool.

  • THIS IS THE CD OF 2008. Simply put - John Mellencamp & his fantastic band have created a thought provoking masterpiece. T Bone Burnett brings a raw edge, looses the pop song mentality & gives the artist the poath to simply create great music. I absolutely love this video & can't wait till the cd drops....

  • I bet John had a big hand in editiing this video because it has his footprints ALL over it. Great job John.

Ps love how the love word moves mimicking it singing itself. Great stuff.

  • Awesome job as john always does.j0612

  • Awesome tune and lyrics. Loved the choice of photographs. Very powerful. Have to agree with the others it does have a bit of an Everly Brothers feel to it. Definitely a song where you cannot sit still while listening to it. Looking forward to hearing the entire album.

Kudos John for another great body of work, from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada.

  • Love the video and the song. Two sided meanings with an Everly Brothers sound. John hits the nail on the head again. Great job! That's why he's in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

  • Just like you >The first time I heard it I thought that sounds just like an Everly Brothers riff exactly...reminiscent of by gone days. John sure channels the collective music of the past with current commentary. I was glad to hear a love song for a change! This world needs more love and tolerance to balance out the negative ...I won't be attending his concert in Berkeley, Ca 8/2/08 but I sure can be there in spirit.

  • I don't think he intended to tap into that retro sound, but with the great T-Bone Burnett producing, it just surfaced that way.

Would be nice if cougar teamed up with David St. Hubbins & Nigel Tufnel for a project. With T-Bone producing...I'd buy that CD as soon as it hit the stores!

  • Excellent song. Reminds me of the Everly Brothers in the sound. Excellent video. Hope to hear it at his concert in Chicago!

  • Love the song. Hope to hear it live at the show in Detroit on July 18th.

  • good stuff.. can't wait for the release of the new album

  • " the you picture " is it him apollo creed suppose to be in rocky 1 ? who pointed at people and said " i whant you"?
