No, they reguate density by a swim bladder (with gas gland & rete mirable) located between the peritoneal cavity and the vertebral column that occupies about 5% of the body's volume.

When coming to the surface the falling hydrostatic pressure allows the bladder to expand, therefore decreasing the density of the fish.

These fish look like derived teleosts, so they would have a physoclistic swim bladder (no pneumatic duct) so they regulate its volume by secreting gas from the blood into it.

@cooldbz12 They'd go splat if an elephant stepped on them. They don't go splat from the pressure of the water because the water is pressing equally from all directions and their tissues are relatively incompressible. If you dove to that depth unprotected, your lungs and any other air voids in your body would collapse or be filled with fluid and the pressure would interfere with protein folding in your body and have other fatal effects, but you wouldn't go splat.

The fish wouldn't be able to survive, most fish that have been caught at great depths, don't survive very long even in shallow water. It's a pressure thing.

Look back at the old, grainy film shot during the only human trip ever to the Challenger Deep, in the Mariana Trench! If I remember correctly, there was a flat fish of some sort that swam right through the camera view!
