Now is there an exception to the rule? I don't know.

Beautiful, my sister. I am across the globe, but I feel a strong kinship with the intention in your dance. I really admire the power of your concentration and the sincerity in your heart mining. Don't ever be discouraged, and continue in your work as long as you have breath It is so needed in our world.
It has been said that the whirling spins the ego to the outside of the body so it can be released and the heart, mind, soul and body can be empty to fill with the presence and Love of God. This is traditionally performed by men.
Partially yes. Sema is part of a religious ritual that belongs to a very specific order. It is religion. You either accept it as it is or look for other ways to satisfy your spiritual needs. You don't add or subtract things from it as you please.
But my main gripe with this performance is that it is clearly meant to be watched. The dance motifs portrayed in the video have nothing to do with sema. Any sema worship open to general public can only hold representative value.
dear friend, Devadasi, dance of the heart is not a traditional Sufi Dance. It is intuitive sacred dance, it is ment to be shared with also public. The entertaining aspect though, is just the superficial layer of it. There are deeper dimensions, too. The "mistake" is, that the video was put under the name "SufiDance" whereelse me, the dancer, was invited to dance to Sufi Music of my friends. best wishes, paramjyoti
I just find it sad how outsiders degrade a part of my culture by treating it like it was an emotional playground of some sort. There is no such thing as sufi music, there's religious music; there is no such thing as sufi energy, there is love of God. Why would you mix a Hindu dance with "sufi music" in the first place? Such attempts at fusing elements from separate schools of thought just because both are exotic to the Western public carves out whatever meaning/value they hold.
Hello my name its Amandine.... I m dancer I have sufi energy dance around my self this last time..... WHERE I CAN LEARN THIS ???????? I m living in Canada and I would like to conec with good teachers
@racineetienne dear sufi dancer! i personally only read a description in the book "Hush! Don't say anything to God" by Rumi, translated by Shahram Shiva. otherwise you need to look for dervish or sufi communities in your area (google might help). as far as i know, there are quite some communities in north america.
dear amandine, thank you for your comment. I am sorry I found out only 8 monts later, how to look at comments on you tupe and how to reply. Please send me an email, if you are still interested in connecting, I am happy to pass on the sacred dance that is the guideline in my life. with love, paramjyoti ( info@devadasi.de)

Hindi is heavily based on Sanskrit which originated in modern day Persia. India is the child of Persia. Their other prominent language, namely Urdu, is heavily based on Persian (Farsi) vocabulary. I think that's why it's easy for people to confuse them.
why does she lift one hand up n the other pointing towards the ground??n while swirling does it sound like connecting to the cosmic energy..beautiful!
I enjoyed your video of this incredibly beautiful dance. I have not seen Sufi dancing with my own eyes, and without YouTube, might never have seen at all. Thank you for sharing : )
Physiologically, the protracted spinning disorients the part of the brain that keeps track of your own limbs and position of the body relative to objects. When that portion of the brain is shut down, people experience a sense of displacement, what many call an out of body experience.
It's rather incredible, but when you reach trance, your feet go without any problem and you simply feel music, emotion... and no thinking in your mind.
When they turn left, it empties oneself out to be filled with the spirit of the Divine. When they turn right, the qualities present within grow stronger.
thanx for placing this nice, beautiful dance video. I'am also practicing the sufi dance and still touched by seeing other people performe this mystic dance.
Awesome.thanks for uploading.where can I buy her DVD from because I want the full version.thanks.

@14abyan This is the honorable mystic path within Islam.
Turkish muslims build big mosques to honor Mevlana, In arab his name was Jallahudin Rumi.
He promoted this kind of dancing. The whirling derwishes of Konya are world famous.

the Sufi dancer has two struggles. one is to seek a trance like state. two is to remain in reality and keep those feet coordinated!

Where can I learn more about this style of Sufi dance?
Why is it called, "Ahura?"
anselmthelost 2 years ago
You can learn more about it in the appendix of the book "Hush! Don't Say Anything To God" with Rumi translations by Shahram Shiva.
Ahura is the name of the Sufi band playing live in this video in Munich, Germany.

ahura is the band.
the leader is from iran.
sufi is only the style of dancing ;)

Ahura means God in persian
asheemak 2 years ago
The song is in Farsi but old Farsi accent, so it is difficult to understand.
The dance thou seems a mix of old persian/zoroastrian and a mix of indian to me, but correct me if i am wrong i am no expert.
also in the chant where it says
"Aye Yaraan Yaraan" it means "hey companions/close friend"
