The FFA fucked up earlier with Griffiths, he got away with it. They weren't going to do that again. If Vukovic only got a few weeks for this, it would set a precendent that puts handling the referee on par with a bad foul, or say Tiatto's "punch" to Dodd.
Vukovic has been made an example of. Yes, it's unfortunate that it's happened to such a good young player. Yes, it's unfortunate that the contact occurred in a moment of understandably extreme frustration. Maybe 6-12 months would have been more appropriate, but because they were so weak on Griffiths they feel as if it needs to be a landmark sentence. It had to be done, otherwise the FFA would have dug themselves into an even bigger hole.

there is absolutely no excuse for ever coming into an agressive form of harrassment towards a referee, AR - sure in the heat of the moment players exchange words and carry on, but never should any player make any type of attempt to jostle, shove or strike a referee. The issue of Joel Griffiths/Assist ref was handled quite wrong, and unfortunately Vokovic has to pay the penalty. I am leaning towards the handball, and I think a penalty would have been in order.

the point is. The referee missed a clear handball in the box. i mean VERY CLEAR. im a roar fan so im not going either way. Although i do think The jets are the Roosters version of Soccer. and CCM think there top shit. The Ref is a complete wank. you know it. i know it. Obviously the CCm players know it. For one, quit this high-five bullshit, he whacked his arm not his hand. He was basically saying "oh fuck off, you're full of shit, Shields". It was petulant at best but as McKinna has said, Vukovic isn't one to contain his emotions.

When it comes to referees, the level of contact or type of contact is totally irrelevant. If you touch him, you are in deep shit. That rule seems to be accepted in every sport except football.
Fact is football referees are the treated worse than any in the world. Crowds are fickle, players constantly whinging in their face... yet there is no help from replays and they get paid sweet fuck-all (in AUS). It's a lose-lose situation, yet you idiots wonder why the A-League ref standard is so shit?

You're all quick to run the old line about rugby league/union being for thugs or anything negative about AFL or cricket. Well there's one thing for sure, football and its fans treat referees like shit compared to those sports.
The FFA fucked up earlier with Griffiths, he got away with it. They weren't going to do that again. If Vukovic only got a few weeks for this, it would set a precendent that puts handling the referee on par with a bad foul, or say Tiatto's "punch" to Dodd.

Vukovic has been made an example of. Yes, it's unfortunate that it's happened to such a good young player. Yes, it's unfortunate that the contact occurred in a moment of understandably extreme frustration. Maybe 6-12 months would have been more appropriate, but because they were so weak on Griffiths they feel as if it needs to be a landmark sentence. It had to be done, otherwise the FFA would have dug themselves into an even bigger hole.

The referee is sacred. Untouchable. It's one of the basic elements of professional sport.
People saying 'soccer is a pussy sport' because of this incident are just as deluded. This has NOTHING to do with fouls or diving.

there is absolutely no excuse for ever coming into an agressive form of harrassment towards a referee, AR - sure in the heat of the moment players exchange words and carry on, but never should any player make any type of attempt to jostle, shove or strike a referee. The issue of Joel Griffiths/Assist ref was handled quite wrong, and unfortunately Vokovic has to pay the penalty. I am leaning towards the handball, and I think a penalty would have been in order.

the ref is untouchable, you can't do what the goalie did, especially in that "aggressive manner". you gotta prevent things like that from the beginning on, it's a hard sentence 15months for that, but still, no touching the ref! which includes "high fives". just think a second about what you are gonna do....
