  • wait what did you say. these fans are to loud lol

  • @66650043661148305595 That would be nice but impossible. You will have to power the servers up in small groups or the fuses will blow...

  • Damn sounds like my server

  • If that is a 2650, then it's louder than I thought.

  • holey shit! load as hell!

  • Nice rack.

  • Is that UPS backups for each section?

  • Yes, I have one of these too, A Dell PowerEdge 2650 it looks like? Very noisy.

  • @66650043661148305595

    lol yeah :D

  • Damn. That was like 7 months ago man. And obviously, you just said what I said kinda. No point on repeating it.

  • wie teuer is son teil eig ich meine das ganze halt!

  • von 1 Euro je nach Austattung P2 bis über 50.000 Euro mit 4 6 Core CPUs... xD

  • @Olaf16 bei 1 HE genau

  • Wie meinste "Bei 1 HE genau"? :/

  • Other servers kick in at full fan speed even with the lid off, then they spin down once they realize it is cooler than they thought...worst case scenario first, makes sense

  • Shes a screamer.

  • @beaman220 all dell servers do when the top is off, idk lol

  • The reason why its on FULL Power for the fans is because when the lid is open, all the air escapes, so it has to blow more air to keep the processors cool

  • gotta love 24 volt fans

  • No, for Dell Servers, when the case is open, the fans run at full speed.

  • frick that thing is loud lol

  • The fans automatically run at full speed when the enclosure is open.

  • why?

  • No, only full speed at startup.

  • Full speed until the fan controller loads, probably 30-60 seconds into the BIOS screens.

  • Hey, Can you put XP or W7 on a sever [Functionally] ?

I planning on making a 'desktop server'; built around one of Tyan's 4 physical cpu mobo's; Xeon X5500's =)

Purpose: Some gaming, but mainly a workstation comp.

  • yes you can install any OS on a server, they are just like your regular old PC except that they are in a different enclosure

  • Yea that's what I thought.

~ But some guy tried to tell me putting XP on a server just would be bad.

    Bias ?

    * Does Microsoft Server Edition have the same general functionality as their other platforms ?

Like would I have trouble with games, Photoshop, Rhino etc?

  • chances are you may have some issues depending on what type of sound card you have installed in Windows Server 2003/2008, but other than that, Nvidia and ATI video drivers work just fine in Windows Server. You can host your own Counter-Strike Server if you wanted to better this way (although not needed), since it supports Symetric Multiprocessing. It ultimately depends on what hardware/drivers you have.

  • would it be sane to install vista ultimate 64 on a server or shuld i use server 2008 x64?

  • Use Server 08 x64... ;) vista ultimate is not for servers and its slower... unstable also etc. ^^

  • thx

  • very loud... i wonder how a server with xp pro would do on gaming :O

  • depends on ram/cpu good, but because those guyz have a really bad onboard graphics.... you hopefull know what that means? XD

  • impossible, i was loking through dell website and they give u the option to get a GFX CARD for the server...

  • Since when that? max a quadro card, but quadro cards are nothink worth for games, because of the drivers....

And well, a server is not for gaming/designing, its to host files/game servers/websites etc. :D

  • A server with XP Pro... you Sir are showing your computer knowledge quite well. (wow)

  • i feel dum having you say that... ehhehe...

  • Well, u can install on a server xp pro, but that give no sence :)

  • boh alta das teil ist sau geil^^

  • Fans on an ASUS RS161, 8 fans idle at 9000+ RPM @ 60 deg. F ambient temp.

  • All you need now is a nuclear power station and you can run the server for at least 10 minutes!

Oh and it doubles as an alarm system too!

  • Hahaha, nahh its not that bad on power :P

    -Alex

  • That's strange. I have the parts of a Dell Dimension 8300 (I had to take them out of the original case and place it in a very large box [500×500] with one side open for ventilation) and together they generate so much heat that the entire room gets very hot even under ambient temperatures of 13°C and sound like air raid siren.

  • there made for effiency... kinda uncommon sense

  • Only get a couple more gallons of gas and you will have it running for a long time >:o

  • Server is now starting...

    all fans to 100%

    server is now on.

  • its looooud man, put the lid back on! :)

  • hehe by over 5 of this nothink helps anymore =P

  • hmm.. lemme guess... a dell poweredge 2650 ?

  • I'd agree it's a dell poweredge 2650. Those fans won't shut up either until you get that bad boy into a heavily air conditioned room....

  • its because the cover is open, PowerEdge have intrusion alert detection that when the top cover is missing, the fans are at full speed - don't ask me why, cuz i have no idea, lol

  • it prevents the server from overheating as the airflow is interrupted with the cover off. The whole idea behind the design is to pull cool air from the front and pass it entirely through the box cooling every component then venting it out the back.

  • you clowns are just posting random specs you aint got a clue.

  • i got a clue

    and the specs are real

ok the 100mbit internet i meant what the ethernet port have for a speed

  • Rack Server? ^_^

  • 100mbits

    2x 73gb hdd raid1

    the 3rd is broken now

  • How fast is the connection and how large the HDD?

  • Most noise you hear because the server is open ;)

  • Listen to the air being sucked and blow through those filters (:-}

  • luckely my server isn't that loud

  • ye, thats true, in data centre where u have arround 50 of them u can go mad after few hours of work...

  • maybe the case and mainboard , the CPU ; Ram etc. are self built in

  • dont want to sleap near it :D

  • isnt that a PE 2650 ? looks and sounds exactly like mine.. ( got 26 of them)

  • Then : Ready for take off :P

  • My HP ProLiant DL380 G4 Is louder :P

  • sounds like a plane about to take off

  • RackServer awful loudly open :D

  • Looks and sounds similar to my Dell Poweredge 2450 rack server I have in the basement. I can hear that thing throughout the house.

  • Lol i want a rack, I now have 2 servers running, one is a Xeon, the other one a Pentium 4 D, both running nice, only the P4D its motherbord is fucked...

  • this sux system , i got better servers , much better

  • Wow. Thats a cool system. Loud though.

  • LoL my servers got just a 8mb onboard ati ragexl graphicard or one a 128mb quadro nvidia card etc.

  • you can build a server and use it for gaming that is what i want to do

  • i do not look at price dude..i am "rich"...i think maybe 500$ max.

  • how much would one of these cost?

  • i do not know...my friend getr 100mBit/s to his provider download+upload..i build him this think....he using for CS:S Server + Clanpage

  • how much and is it good for hosting servers on SA-MP or other things

  • Whats is specs?
