I do not understand why, but these locomotives are the most beautiful machines on earth, in my opinion. No modern aerodynamic vehicle with the nicest paint job can compare. That's even with the exposed plumbing, and bare metal moving parts
Would love to see all surviving Big Boys resurrected and returned to service. If anything can restore pride in American know how, the steam locomotive can do it.
Excellent illustration of the difficulty of parking a massive 4-8+8-4 Alco single-expansion in a public park. If any Big Boy has a good chance of being resurrected, it's UP #4014 in SoCal, where the dry climate has minimized deterioration---I say, put in new tubes and a new crown sheet and let's see where the boiler leaks air, as the first stage of the rebuild.
@cockroach you are a person who only thinks about money and not about history, think, actually having these locomotive to look at in real life not in a book is something to be valued. Now stopping commenting and be such an irritating Doosh
Cockroach is indeed a loser. Too many steam engines have gone to scrap. Consider; the 4-4-0 American class was made for 93 years. No other motive machine has even come close to that timeline. We are down to a handful of remaining locomotives. NW Railroad Museum is a classic example; The last NP L-5 0-6-0 of three built. One of the last three three truck shays. Likely the last steam rotary built for the NP remaining. Steam drove everything for more than 100 years. And may again..
steam engines are legends and should be preserved, cockroach whoever he is is a complete dumbass, preserve all steam engines these things revolutionized the railroad industry
There is a Big Boy in Fair Park in Dallas that eventually be moved to a indoor facility in Frisco Tx. They are building a train museum there. The town is north of Dallas.
Sometimes I wonder about this, but you think beginning one of the last giants they would keep it inside some where and if possible, it should have been restored!!! Would be an amazing engine to see running again, but I guess the price to restore and keep maintenance on such a monster would be very expensive!!!
Shame you didn't hold that last shot a few seconds longer, it is quite the striking sight at night. For those interested, these sit on the bluff overlooking the Missouri River, as you cross from Iowa into Nebraska on I-80, on the right.
Cockroach I work with both steam and diesel trains. Do you realize that the Big boy has more power that the largest diesel locomotive (Union Pacific Centennial) the Centennial has 6600 hp vs Big Boy who has 7200 hp.. anyways If people are interested The museum of the American Railroad in Dallas is moving their Big Boy - #4018 by rail on its own wheels (Towed it by other locomotive) in August of this year. Check it out.
Thank you. THe repeating audio should go but the pics say a lot. What a grand loco. BTW, I think Cock roach misspelled his name - should be Cock Suc++r He is bored and trying to stir up trouble in a place he is illiterate! Cockroach needs to go back to his porno sites if he hasn't already been caught broadcasting child porn by now. Anyone wiyth the name Cock in their user name it is obvious what they are after. Think a male chicken
@racerboy23432 Thank you for the very flattering compliment! I sincerely appreciate it.
Glad you agree that junking the steam locomotives is the proper thing to do. Consider it the ultimate sacrifice, providing materials so we may drill for oil in off shore locations. Oil platforms is a perfect use for these materials!
Thank you for the great idea! I sincerely appreciate it!
@Cockroach2008 up yours anyway steam is a lot better looking then any diesel ever built you are only like this cause you want to piss people off which isnt working
@racerboy23432 Up yours anyway? What do you mean? I don't understand!
If steam is so much better, why have the railroads discarded them? Because the railroads are just operating as profit loss institutions? Because diesel locomotives are escalating costs?
Steam locomotives are past their prime & the time has come to cut them apart & melt them. To accelerate their trip to the scrap yard, those who need QUICK CASH will find that parts from these machines are in high demand on the black market!
@dust478 Thank you for the VERY FLATTERING compliment! I SINCERELY appreciate it!
I am delighted you agree that the steam locomotives are not worthy of saving, restoring, maintaining or insuring!
And think of all those parts which could be removed & sold at midnight sales with NO QUESTIONS ASKED! Gauges, whistles, bells, lights, builder's plates, there are all sort of goodies people could sell & get COLD, HARD CASH!
@Cockroach2008 Steam locomotives made history (and still are) and that's why they're saved from scrap. It seems to me that you only care about money. Money can only buy so much, and history is NOT one of those things.
@robertgift it would be soooo cool if they got one of the 4000s running again----i say the president should be doing something about that---those are some of the finest engines out there, and there's one other type that has only 2 left ----- the C&O 2-6-6-6 H-8 'Allegheny'. i would love to see one of those moving again; they could haul 91 loads of coal without any help.
@Fireheart528 The Allegheny made a lot of sense! Almost all weight on DRIVE wheels. Still, steam locomotives were so inefficient and destroying themselves and the track. But my great uncle loved his 4-8-4 Hudson(?) That is a locomotive I'd like to see. Justypical mighty American locomotive. (Not pip-squeak English locos with their little-girl-squealing whistles.)
4000s would be too expensive to make operational.
Sad that the railroads did not preserve more. Some people were stupid.
@robertgift So what country holds the record for the fastest steam loco, the longest non stop run, the most efficient simple (as opposed to compound) locomotive. Have you ever heard an LMS whistle or a chime whistle?=P
@Paraffinmeister Mallard was one good locomotive, but some don't compare to the pride that we had in our designs. did you ever know of any locomotive other than the C&O H-8 Allegheny that could haul 8000 tons with no help at all over in the UK? and what about the Union Pacific 4000 Class? the biggest locomotives ever built; no other locomotive out there that i know of could haul a mile long freight at 50-70 mph over the UP's Sherman Hill line.
@Fireheart528 All I'm saying is they are as worthy of recognition as the machines built in the states. I know there is no way that any locomotive from the UK could ever compete with the sheer bulk and power of one of these monsters but that is no reason to dissmiss them.
@Paraffinmeister i'll concede that.................... and in no way am i trying to offend you, but after all the things that happened to the USA back in the 1700s, i guess its natural for that to happen.
@robertgift chime whistles have anywhere from 1 to 6 pitches, with a 1 chime whistle being only one pitch. when you have a 5 chime whistle, the more steam that is admitted to the whistle, the higher the pitch will be. thats why some whistles sound loud and mellow and others might sound like a high-pitched shreik; still others can have a very low but echoing sound.
@Fireheart528 My great uncle had his 4-8-4 locomotive's whistle tuned to certain pitches. Don't know whathey were. Did he have a whistle MADE for him, which he would install when working?
It was four pitches I recall him saying.
Have never heard any English or European whistle which even compared to an American multi-toned whistle.
@robertgift if i remember right, some railroads did install custom whistles on their locomotives, but i'd need to know what railroad he worked for to make an accurate guess or answer. most every restored steam loco out there has a an exact replica of the original whistle or the original whistle, provided that its not seriously damaged.
@bluesguitardude Would be absolutly fantastic! I'm sure it'll happen some day if the money can be found and someone finds away to solve the turning problem.=)
@bluesguitardude Partially, there could be clearance issues with the front end overhang on curves, but also there's a lack of places to turn such a monster round to face the other way.
Nice Steam loco, shame it doesn't move any more though, would be good to hear it bark with train full of freight., would be a bonus if it ran over "Cockroach2008 too though". The wrong thing about it is that he can vote!!!
What was the "normal" operating cruising speed for these Locomotives?
@matthewt1501 They were at thir happiest and most efficient plodding away at around 40MPH I think. I recon we will see one of the preserved examples steam again some day. The only real snagging point is lack of places to turn such a monster.
@matthewt1501 with the weight that they carried across the plains, a one and a half mile long freight train, about 45 to 50 miles an hour. the main section they worked on, sherman hill, had broad sweeping curves that even the 4-12-2's could navigate, so yeah, about that speed, i would love to restore one myself, always was a dream of mine. RIP BigBoy 4000-4025
The despicable language used by some individuals when posting comments is absolutely unnecessary and extremely disrespectful of anyone else. How about acting responsibly and decently for someone else’s benefit even if you have no respect for yourself.
@Civilized0900 I know, I wih the rest of the youtube community was as well intentioned as you. Sadly it isn't, there are are neeps like Cockroach2008 among us.=/
If the 1 dimensional, "LilCocksuckinRoach2008", had it 'It's' way... 'It' would scrap all the pyramids, historic landmarks, etc. on the planet for "CASH" . Hey Cockroach!... you got yer rabbit ears on? Where is your scrapyard, you 'Lil ol' Toxic Puddle of Yeast-Infected Vaginal-Discharge? ~He wants to build a Great Big Steam Engine to compensate for his impotent existence! Don't let him fool you!
@Cockroach2008 ~You have such a predictable lack of perspective (even for a child)! - You place UNPROVOKED hate filled comments on EVERY steam-train related page you can find. If you steal things & sell them...fine. - But you have some bizarre need to interact with people, whom with, you claim to disagree. What were you attempting to accomplish through such rhetoric? An intelligent man would adopt a different approach by now. But, Oh No... NOT YOU!!! ~ And that explains you, Bitch!
@bigredlover77 If you you think my comments to be UNPROVOKED hate, that is your perception.
I don't steal articles or sell any. I inform people who need QUICK CASH, where to find articles which can be sold for their value to alleviate their financial distress. It is nothing more than telling people that the Mona Lisa can be found in the Louvre art museum in Versailles, France!
Telling people where it's at & what it is worth is not a crime!
@Paraffinmeister Believe what you want to believe. I am still out to see the destruction, junking, scrapping, cutting & melting of all the remaining steam locomotives.
@Paraffinmeister Say what you want! Lead your sheep to their own slaughter! That is a good little Paraffinmeister! Tell all the lies you want & those who want the steam locomotives preserved will follow because they just don't know any better. All they want is to see the steam choo-choo! Economic sensibility & funding is someone elses concern!
When funding runs out, then they expect taxpayers to pay for them.
Guess what? The tea party will end the support of these foolish endeavors! Hoo-Rah!
@Cockroach2008 You really havn't got a clue have you? No heritage railway operation has ever been bailed out by the tax payer and probably never will be.
If you really did own this scrap yard breaking up steam locos like you claim then you would know that a steam loco is a scrap man's nightmare.
Now stop talking like you're some kind of god and run along and play nicely. Leave the big complicated stuff like this to us adults.
@Paraffinmeister Did you really think this one through very well? Look what you have done! You have admitted that the steam locomotive should be destroyed & would like to see them all scrapped, junked & cut apart. Then you delete the message to hide your real passion!
Just so everyone can see, I will quote your post here, "Cockroach2008 Frankly, all these steam locomotives should be taken apart & melted. You & I make delightful reading & worry for these guys! I am having great fun with you!"
@Paraffinmeister You did write that to me. Did you think you could hide it by deleting your YouTube posting?
I just copied what came to my mail when YouTube relayed the message. I found you deleted your post. That is okay, I copied to this forum so people can see your true colors.
It is delightful to know you agree the steam locomotives are materials for new products. Cutting them apart & melting all that remain is in the best interest of us all.
@Cockroach2008 ~ Yes, and my perception is accurate. Yet, as empty and endlessly lacking as you are in substance (bullshit excluded), why the facade...albeit, transparent?
Ya know, I could use a little extra cash...where's your scrapyard, again?
@Cockroach2008 ~ Speaking of "QUESTIONS ASKED!"...try answering mine. It's really easy! - Oh, alright. Here...I'll walk you through it. First, refer to my previous reply.....Ok, good job!! - Now, what you'll need to do is...look for the question marks.....here, let me help you...they look like this ?????..... Yeah! See, you're getting it!!!! Ok.. Now, read very carefully and then respond with the correct answer!! It's that easy! - Good luck!!!
@Cockroach2008 I'm goning to make this as simple as possible for you. SHUT UP, NOBODY CARES WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY OR THINK!!! Think you can understand that?
@Paraffinmeister My uneducated little friend. What is "goning"? Remember those remedial English spelling classes I suggested for you? I told you then & now reiterate, you need to attend them again! Very desperately so!
Then again, maybe not since you have planned to spend your life in the high paying career of steam locomotive repairman or steam locomotive engineer!
I doubt that career has any of a future in it.
Then, you are either too ignorant or blinded by your interest to see reality!
@Cockroach2008 Ignorant or blinded by your interest. Hypocritical much?
There's more of a career in that than running an imaginary scrap yard. I however plan to spend my life in the high paying career of marine engineering and do the whole steam railway thing in my spare time.
Ah nit picking about spelling. The sign of someone who is desperate and running out of things to say.=P
@Paraffinmeister As long as there are machines, there will be a need for scrapyards & ship breakers. Plenty of metal for new products there. Not imaginary, it is very real!
That is okay, if you don't want to believe me. I have been telling you all along, believe what you want to believe.
Your spelling skills are fairly poor from what I have seen. It is not a sign of a desperate person. It is a display of your uneducated ignorance.
Like most of railroad fanatics, probably never graduated.
@Cockroach2008 I've been telling you all along too that I do believe what I want, this thing called the truth. Not the fantasy world you live in.
My spelling may not be great, but at least I have a grasp of reality and know what I'm talking about. Unlike you.
I'll have you know I did graduate, how else do you think I managed to get into marine engineering. They don't just let anyone do that kind of job! The scrap buisness on the otherhand....
@Paraffinmeister Think what you want. It is no fantasy. I strip, crush, reduce & load out at least 28 tons of metal materials everyday. It is okay by me if you don't believe. I never asked you to.
Your spelling is atrocious. I think you do not live much of a reality at all. I make a pretty good living, despite what public perception is of a junkyard operator. Keeping crews employed & paid requires a pretty sophisticated skill. I doubt you could manage that.
@Cockroach2008 And yet you plaster your views all over youtube and get so wound up when anyone questions them.
Sophisticated skill? I suppose it might seem sophisticated to someone who can only just about count all their fingers. Try any kind of maintenance on a large slow speed ship's engine!
@Paraffinmeister I am not wound up. I "Post Comment" as per YouTube's invitation. I never expected any responses. But when I do get one, I return the courtesy.
I believe I count very well. Do you do statistical summations? The quadratic equation? Can you solve for polynomials? Do you graph upon equation solution?
I didn't think so!
I bet I would do well at ship engine maintenance. I haven't been in an engine room in a while, but I know what it all is.
@Cockroach2008 Well, start identifying, the first thing you do is take a walk round to check it's all working anyway so what do you check? I want answeres here not excuses!
@Cockroach2008 So what you're saying is you havn't got a clue at all, You said you knew about it and now you're back tracking and that was most definately an excuse you gave me and a poor one at that! All I saked you to do was list the machinery and you couldn't even do that!
I think perhaps you should just concentrate on those fingers.
@Paraffinmeister You have selective reading again! I since you have such difficulty reading, I will tell you again, "I don't take over an engine room watch. Never have, never will." I don't care what the hand-off procedure is. I was always there with someone else who was on duty. I just visited. I was looking for scrapping some equipment out after it was removed.
You never asked me to list the equipment.
That is okay! I understand you appear to be having many mental problems.
@Cockroach2008 All I want is you to start listing the machinery you would expect to find. I don't care about your excuses. If you can't even do that then it proves you really havn't got a clue about the things you like to lecture us on! If you find that so difficult to comprehend then you really do need serious mental help. While we're on the subject, you seem to love calling other people mentall unstable, is this perhaps because you're covering up for your own mental problems?
@Cockroach2008 ~ Your deepest secrets are clawing their way into the sight of everyone who see's your comments.
Who fucked you up to the point of becoming the 'Bizarre Steam-Train Hating Mishap of Creation' you are??!!!
-Of all the infinite wisdom & ways to aquire monetary wealth...your comments are an unlimited 'Skin-Crawling-Sickeningly-Weird, Inefficiant Technique' which displays more of who YOU are intimately, than your misunderstandings of economics...Yikes!
@Cockroach2008 I've had a better idea, lets spray paint your car and house then pull the parts off the car and sell them. While we're at it, there's all that scrap metal in your aledged scrap yard that's all worth money. As you say, cash payed and no questions asked.=)
My car is still in production service & so is my house. They are not bankrupt museum pieces which go begging for donations & support from people who can not live in or operate them.
I am finding that the best black market prices are being paid for the gauge sets & whistles from steam locomotives! CASH SALES! NO QUESTIONS ASKED!
While the vandals are there, take the radios, generator & headlight. Slice the seats, cut the ropes & crush the pipes!
@Cockroach2008 radios, generator, ropes!? Since when has any steam loco had any of those!?
I think my idea would be far more profitable tbh, car parts are much easier to remove and carry and you're far less likel to get caught. Even the small cab fittings on a steam loco are unbelievably difficult to remove and are extremely heavy.
@Paraffinmeister These parts are there. To operate the steam locomotives on today's railway system, there are radio's to communicate with dispatch. There is an electric generator (usually steam driven) to drive the electrical devices on the locomotive (head light). The rope or chain is for operating the whistle.
Maybe you don't know as much about the steam locomotive as you would like people to believe.
Now, I understand why you defend the steam locomotive so vigorously. You are a graduate?
@Cockroach2008 Portable battery powered radio that isn't left on the loco, battery powered lights in most cases or oil lamps, very few locos have turbo alternators because they were so complex and unreliable. Any other modern safety devices are battery powered too. The whistle chain at best would be worth 20p (50c).
Since you know so much about the steam loco, perhaps you'd like to explane to all of us what exhaust lap and exhaust lead are?=)
@Cockroach2008 And I'm talking about outright wanton and destructuon of your car. All in the noble effort to make you realise just what a tool you really are!
It is okay, I understand you severely mental impaired. Your machinist license is at risk when you admit that you are under prescription drugs to keep your mental instability in check.
I advise, keep your illicit drug use & abuse of prescription drugs under control for about 45 days before you re-certify. For the present, you can rant all you want & I don't care.
I understand the reasons why you do so. I have no regard for anything you say.
@Cockroach2008 I know enough. From what you've said on here I know that you are a compulsive liar, you have difficulty dealing with the truth, you seem to think that promoting criminal activity is ok. Your constant refernces to mental problems lead me to believe that you are in fact covering up for your own mental deficiencies and from your favourite clips on here you have one extremely sick mind!
@Paraffinmeister Believe what you want to believe. I just posted my comment as YouTube invites. You respond to me, I respond to you. It is called dialog, something you clearly do not understand. I doubt you ever will.
Yes, around the world, the outlaw is celebrated. Butch Cassidy, Jack the Ripper, Billy the Kid, Cockroach2008 the Steam Locomotive scrapper. Activity in an effort to destroy all the remaining steam locomotives is A-1 in my book!
@Cockroach2008 Yeah I wasn't kidding about the mental problems. Seriously, seek help if you aren't already. At the moment they're manifesting themselves as reapeating the same old crap we've heard a million times before and delusions of grandure. Sorry to crush your illusions but you are nothing more than scum.
@Paraffinmeister Thank you for your very helpful suggestion. However, I must decline for I have determined you are not medically qualified to make any such judgment.
You demonstrate the very same aliment. Endless repeating of phrases & statements for which you do not agree. You offer nothing new in any dialog. If these are real symptoms, then we both suffer.
Your opinion of me, "Thank You! I sincerely appreciate it!" I think less of you but I refuse to engage in name calling on this forum.
@Cockroach2008 I've reapeated the same phrases over and statements over and over again in the hope that the message might eventually stick in the great void between your ears.
I'm still waiting for some answeres to my questions btw, if you're as smart as you make out then you should be able to answere them easily. If not then it proves everything I've said about you.
@Paraffinmeister You don't need to repeat yourself. Your message was heard the first time.
You need the constant reminding. I am a scrap yard operator, not a marine engineer. I don't take turn overs from a previous shift in the engine room. I look through the stuff to determine it's scrap value.
You prove nothing! But, if you think you have, believe what you want to believe.
When I scrap your steam locomotive, you will believe. If collectible parts were taken your mental fog will clear!
@Cockroach2008 And I'm not saying you are a marine engineer. You said you knew what was in your average engine room and I asked you to prove it by listing it. Cut the bullshit excuses and just do it, unlesss of course you can't because as ever you're talking out of your arse!
We're all still waiting for you to tell us where your yard is too. Or can you not even do that?
Since when have I owned a steam loco? You're proposing we scrap an imaginary loco in an imaginary yard now? You've lost it!=P
@Cockroach2008 ~ You stated to me... your srapyard is located "in eastern and western America".
I find that interesting. Is it 1 scrapyard in 2 locations? Or, do you own 2 srapyards now? 'Cause it's really starting to get good now! Is it 1 scrapyard spanning America from east to west ( that's a damn big scrapyard, Scrappy Doo if you Scrappy Don't!) Try it this way..gimme the address of yer junkyard. And dn't--**Awwgh, wait a minit! Yer tryin to be 'esoteric' ain'tcha!? O yes U R!
@bigredlover77 We have one fixed location. The rest is mobile. Some of the stuff can't be moved because it is not fit to transport on some right of way.
We go to the site & start cutting on location, putting pieces into trucks & haul it to the scrap yard. Sometimes it is our yard & sometimes we sign a contract with another yard to take the material & send it to the smelter!
@Cockroach2008 ~ Oh yeah? That's nice...but, you still haven't anwered the question..."Where is it?" - If you truthfully owned & operated said 'scrapyard', you would respond by saying, "None of your business!". Instead, you continue with the same repetitive transparent rhetoric, unsuccessful attempt to elude the question.
You don't know this, but, to form such long-winded explainations- than refuse answering- speaks volumes about your dishonesty.
@bigredlover77 I do run a yard. However, much of our work is scrap on site.
Since much of this garbage was parked many years ago & it is not likely to ever roll again or the trackway connections have been pulled apart, we usually end up going to the wreck, cut it up there & truck the pieces out. Most of this stuff is junk.
But, I want to see the rest of them junked, wrecked, graffiti painted & stripped of required operational parts & systems!
@Cockroach2008 ~ Of all the "grafitti-painted, stripped of required operational parts & systems, garbage- who's trackway connections have been pulled apart" ...you, are the most transparent! Hahaa!!! You are truly funny, brother! Are you embarrassed about not having anything to do (besides discrediting yourself infinitley further)? ~ See, you just want to see them destroyed..no matter of "CASH" benefit. You argued(tried to argue) that point before. Of course, you failed..again.
@Cockroach2008 ~ You're the type of guy who would walk a 100 miles of abandoned steel track(CASH) to loot the remains of a steam-locomotive just to spite anyone who wouldn't!! Hahaha!!!- You're a silly fella A Capella!!!- Damn I'm smart! haha! (That means..you're alone) You've got California written all over yourself, kiddo!
@Cockroach2008 ~ You obviously feel obligated to explain your way out of answering the simplest of questions. See, children are perplexed as to how their parents know when they're lying. (You're experiencing all the dynamics of the preceeding sentence). - Only a child or idiot would under-estimate the intellect of others the way you do. You haven't informed anyone of anything unknown! You don't care about other peoples' financial woes, & scrapping steam locos won't cure it..dumbass!!!
@Paraffinmeister ~ cockroach isn't equipped of masculinity yet. He has no sense of accountibility for his statements because he doesen't know who he is. He is all opinion & zero fact.- Basically, he's harmless...albeit, annoying! Haha!
Either way, he's a mis-informed, misled kid, who's only strength is...commenting where his statements would be least accepted (like a Nazi in a Synagogue)!!!
It's easy to ridicule him but his,'steam-train psychosis' is sheer comedy!!Haha!! Funny stuff!!!
@Cockroach2008 ~ Unless you're utterly incompetent and lack any sensory ability, you would be aware of why your opinions about steam-locos wouldn't be well recieved (before expressing them!) on the pages you exclusively choose to comment about.
Your comments aren't to inform anyone of anything, (they contain no information) but only to annoy people who enjoy the media posted. -Scrap-metal yards don't have the option to 'specialize' in steam-locomotives (and remain 'in business').
@Cockroach2008 You lying toad! It's plastered over your profile that you specialise in them. Obviously bullshit, but it does go to show just how blatantly obvious it is that you will lie about anything!
@Paraffinmeister Yes it says I specialize in scrapping steam locomotives. And I do!
Lying? Send me your steam locomotive for scrapping. I will be glad to show you!
In the mean time, if anyone needs some quick CASH, should you remove parts from a steam locomotive, the parts can be sold quickly for CASH with NO QUESTIONS ASKED! It is not hard!
These junkers are just waiting for an urban graffiti paint job! Then remove the gauge sets, (worth thousands of US dollars). Handsome profit!
@Cockroach2008 Buisness must be slow if you do specialise in them, infact it would be non existant, oh wait that's because it is non existant! This would also explane why you can't tell us where your yard is, since it only exists in your mind.
In the meantime, if you find yourself short of cash, don't hesitate to go find yourself a real job and stop wasting your life with some fantasy scrap filled world on youtube, cash in hand, no questions asked. It's not that hard!
@Paraffinmeister Business is very brisk. Thank you for your concern. It is not very active in the steam locomotive scrapping lately, but it will pick up soon.
I am now hearing of more "incidents" around steam locomotives. It seems like they have become a target for quick CASH!
I told you it would happen! It won't be long, they are all headed for the scrapper!
@Cockroach2008 As if! You still havn't told us where this yard is. I would have thought that someone with your gift for lying would have been able to make up a location by now even!
@Paraffinmeister I can make up plenty of places! I take care of my own yard! If you have a steam locomotive I can put to the cutting torch, I will tell you!
But, to think I will tell you so you can come around & heckle me, THINK AGAIN!
@Cockroach2008 I think heckling would be the last of your worries, try flaming torch wielding lynch mobs, and who's fault is that? YOURS, for being such an arrogant loudmouthed prick!
However this does mean that yet again, you've failed to come up with the hard evedence to back up your claims. It therefore can only be assumed that no such place exists.
@Cockroach2008 That's not proof, that's just you saying things. I want answeres not excuses! You're worse than a politician! What was the works number of this mythical loco, what was it's running number and where is this mythical yard of yours. Until you can tell us these simple things then you can't prove anything. If you're not going to tell us, just shjut up and go back to counting your fingers again.
@Cockroach2008 you lazy dumb liar, you're insulting steam enthusiasts and railfans, not to mention the descendants of the companies that built these locomotives!! YOU ARE A TRAITOR TO AMERICA IF YOU EVEN MENTION SCRAPPING A STEAM LOCOMOTIVE!!! these masterpieces were built and designed in the USA. and to say that on a video of one of the most powerful locomotive in the world is just plain wrong, insulting, and traitorous.
40°22'11.66"N 74°57'18.52"W Apparently this is Cockroach2008's scrap yard.=P

I do not understand why, but these locomotives are the most beautiful machines on earth, in my opinion. No modern aerodynamic vehicle with the nicest paint job can compare. That's even with the exposed plumbing, and bare metal moving parts

JoshMarkTobbell 7 months ago
Cockroach is indeed a loser. Too many steam engines have gone to scrap. Consider; the 4-4-0 American class was made for 93 years. No other motive machine has even come close to that timeline. We are down to a handful of remaining locomotives. NW Railroad Museum is a classic example; The last NP L-5 0-6-0 of three built. One of the last three three truck shays. Likely the last steam rotary built for the NP remaining. Steam drove everything for more than 100 years. And may again..

Sometimes I wonder about this, but you think beginning one of the last giants they would keep it inside some where and if possible, it should have been restored!!! Would be an amazing engine to see running again, but I guess the price to restore and keep maintenance on such a monster would be very expensive!!!

Nice.
Closeups of crossing the tracks would have been nice.
They should have had wood PACKED between the rails, not allow gaps they left.
Sad that that steam locomotive will never move again.
robertgift 1 year ago
@robertgift it would be soooo cool if they got one of the 4000s running again----i say the president should be doing something about that---those are some of the finest engines out there, and there's one other type that has only 2 left ----- the C&O 2-6-6-6 H-8 'Allegheny'. i would love to see one of those moving again; they could haul 91 loads of coal without any help.
Fireheart528 1 year ago
@Fireheart528 The Allegheny made a lot of sense! Almost all weight on DRIVE wheels. Still, steam locomotives were so inefficient and destroying themselves and the track. But my great uncle loved his 4-8-4 Hudson(?) That is a locomotive I'd like to see. Justypical mighty American locomotive. (Not pip-squeak English locos with their little-girl-squealing whistles.)
4000s would be too expensive to make operational.
Sad that the railroads did not preserve more. Some people were stupid.

@Paraffinmeister (Not pip-squeak English locos with their little-girl-squealing whistles.)
robertgift 1 year ago
@robertgift So what country holds the record for the fastest steam loco, the longest non stop run, the most efficient simple (as opposed to compound) locomotive. Have you ever heard an LMS whistle or a chime whistle?=P
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
@Paraffinmeister I give up. What?
What is LMS?
Don't American locomotives have "chime" whistles?
robertgift 1 year ago
@robertgift The UK. Mallard, Flying Scotsman and Duke of Gloucster respectively.
LMS: London Midland and Scottish Railway.
And yes, however they are nothing like the chime whistles fitted to some UK locos.
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
@Paraffinmeister Mallard was one good locomotive, but some don't compare to the pride that we had in our designs. did you ever know of any locomotive other than the C&O H-8 Allegheny that could haul 8000 tons with no help at all over in the UK? and what about the Union Pacific 4000 Class? the biggest locomotives ever built; no other locomotive out there that i know of could haul a mile long freight at 50-70 mph over the UP's Sherman Hill line.
Fireheart528 1 year ago
@Fireheart528 All I'm saying is they are as worthy of recognition as the machines built in the states. I know there is no way that any locomotive from the UK could ever compete with the sheer bulk and power of one of these monsters but that is no reason to dissmiss them.
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
@Paraffinmeister i'll concede that.................... and in no way am i trying to offend you, but after all the things that happened to the USA back in the 1700s, i guess its natural for that to happen.
Fireheart528 1 year ago
@robertgift chime whistles have anywhere from 1 to 6 pitches, with a 1 chime whistle being only one pitch. when you have a 5 chime whistle, the more steam that is admitted to the whistle, the higher the pitch will be. thats why some whistles sound loud and mellow and others might sound like a high-pitched shreik; still others can have a very low but echoing sound.
Fireheart528 1 year ago
@Fireheart528 My great uncle had his 4-8-4 locomotive's whistle tuned to certain pitches. Don't know whathey were. Did he have a whistle MADE for him, which he would install when working?
It was four pitches I recall him saying.
Have never heard any English or European whistle which even compared to an American multi-toned whistle.
robertgift 1 year ago
@robertgift if i remember right, some railroads did install custom whistles on their locomotives, but i'd need to know what railroad he worked for to make an accurate guess or answer. most every restored steam loco out there has a an exact replica of the original whistle or the original whistle, provided that its not seriously damaged.

matthewt1501 1 year ago
@matthewt1501 They were at thir happiest and most efficient plodding away at around 40MPH I think. I recon we will see one of the preserved examples steam again some day. The only real snagging point is lack of places to turn such a monster.
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
@matthewt1501 with the weight that they carried across the plains, a one and a half mile long freight train, about 45 to 50 miles an hour. the main section they worked on, sherman hill, had broad sweeping curves that even the 4-12-2's could navigate, so yeah, about that speed, i would love to restore one myself, always was a dream of mine. Cockroach2008 1 year ago
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 Ignorant or blinded by your interest. Hypocritical much?
There's more of a career in that than running an imaginary scrap yard. I however plan to spend my life in the high paying career of marine engineering and do the whole steam railway thing in my spare time.
Ah nit picking about spelling. The sign of someone who is desperate and running out of things to say.=P
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
@Paraffinmeister As long as there are machines, there will be a need for scrapyards & ship breakers. Plenty of metal for new products there. Not imaginary, it is very real!
That is okay, if you don't want to believe me. I have been telling you all along, believe what you want to believe.
Your spelling skills are fairly poor from what I have seen. It is not a sign of a desperate person. It is a display of your uneducated ignorance.
Like most of railroad fanatics, probably never graduated.
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 I've been telling you all along too that I do believe what I want, this thing called the truth. Not the fantasy world you live in.
My spelling may not be great, but at least I have a grasp of reality and know what I'm talking about. Unlike you.
I'll have you know I did graduate, how else do you think I managed to get into marine engineering. They don't just let anyone do that kind of job! The scrap buisness on the otherhand....
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
@Paraffinmeister Think what you want. It is no fantasy. I strip, crush, reduce & load out at least 28 tons of metal materials everyday. It is okay by me if you don't believe. I never asked you to.
Your spelling is atrocious. I think you do not live much of a reality at all. I make a pretty good living, despite what public perception is of a junkyard operator. Keeping crews employed & paid requires a pretty sophisticated skill. I doubt you could manage that.
You graduated? It doesn't show!
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 And yet you plaster your views all over youtube and get so wound up when anyone questions them.
Sophisticated skill? I suppose it might seem sophisticated to someone who can only just about count all their fingers. Try any kind of maintenance on a large slow speed ship's engine!
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
@Paraffinmeister I am not wound up. I "Post Comment" as per YouTube's invitation. I never expected any responses. But when I do get one, I return the courtesy.
I believe I count very well. Do you do statistical summations? The quadratic equation? Can you solve for polynomials? Do you graph upon equation solution?
I didn't think so!
I bet I would do well at ship engine maintenance. I haven't been in an engine room in a while, but I know what it all is.
Run along & go count your fingers again!
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 Ok then, if you know about life in an engine room, how would you go about taking over a watch?
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
@Paraffinmeister As for the process, I don't know! I said I can identify the machinery.
As for procedure, that is quickly learned. You can get a baboon to follow that. Maybe you are one of those first order primates.
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 Well, start identifying, the first thing you do is take a walk round to check it's all working anyway so what do you check? I want answeres here not excuses!
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
@Paraffinmeister You do have problems!
I said I don't run an engine room. I know the machinery for what it does. I don't take over watches in an engine room, I never have. I never plan to.
If they ask me to cut it up, I know what it is & start looking how few a cuts it will take to get it out through the available openings.
Now, that is no excuse. It is an answer. I cut up the junk for melting!
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 So what you're saying is you havn't got a clue at all, You said you knew about it and now you're back tracking and that was most definately an excuse you gave me and a poor one at that! All I saked you to do was list the machinery and you couldn't even do that!
I think perhaps you should just concentrate on those fingers.
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
@Paraffinmeister You have selective reading again! I since you have such difficulty reading, I will tell you again, "I don't take over an engine room watch. Never have, never will." I don't care what the hand-off procedure is. I was always there with someone else who was on duty. I just visited. I was looking for scrapping some equipment out after it was removed.
You never asked me to list the equipment.
That is okay! I understand you appear to be having many mental problems.
I forgive you!
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 All I want is you to start listing the machinery you would expect to find. I don't care about your excuses. If you can't even do that then it proves you really havn't got a clue about the things you like to lecture us on! If you find that so difficult to comprehend then you really do need serious mental help. While we're on the subject, you seem to love calling other people mentall unstable, is this perhaps because you're covering up for your own mental problems?

What economic enterprise do you run? Is it profitable?
Selling steam locomotive parts is a great revenue generator! Try it!
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 I've had a better idea, lets spray paint your car and house then pull the parts off the car and sell them. While we're at it, there's all that scrap metal in your aledged scrap yard that's all worth money. As you say, cash payed and no questions asked.=)
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
@Paraffinmeister What makes your idea better?
My car is still in production service & so is my house. They are not bankrupt museum pieces which go begging for donations & support from people who can not live in or operate them.
I am finding that the best black market prices are being paid for the gauge sets & whistles from steam locomotives! CASH SALES! NO QUESTIONS ASKED!
While the vandals are there, take the radios, generator & headlight. Slice the seats, cut the ropes & crush the pipes!
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 radios, generator, ropes!? Since when has any steam loco had any of those!?
I think my idea would be far more profitable tbh, car parts are much easier to remove and carry and you're far less likel to get caught. Even the small cab fittings on a steam loco are unbelievably difficult to remove and are extremely heavy.
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago

Since you know so much about the steam loco, perhaps you'd like to explane to all of us what exhaust lap and exhaust lead are?=)
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
@Paraffinmeister Many are required to have mounted radios. Many had generators installed. I know the whistle chain is valueless.
I am talking about just outright wanton destruction & vandalism! All in the noble effort to junk the steam locomotives!
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 And I'm talking about outright wanton and destructuon of your car. All in the noble effort to make you realise just what a tool you really are!
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
@Paraffinmeister Finding a steam locomotive to vandalize is far easier than finding my car.
Happy hunting!
Vandalize, graffiti paint, junk, scrap, cut apart & melt all the remaining steam locomotives! I am glad you agree!
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 Oh yeah, you don't have one do you. You need to pass a test to drive which is something you've never done.
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
@Paraffinmeister How little you know about me!
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 I know enough. From what you've said on here I know that you are a compulsive liar, you have difficulty dealing with the truth, you seem to think that promoting criminal activity is ok. Your constant refernces to mental problems lead me to believe that you are in fact covering up for your own mental deficiencies and from your favourite clips on here you have one extremely sick mind!
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
@Paraffinmeister Believe what you want to believe. I just posted my comment as YouTube invites. You respond to me, I respond to you. It is called dialog, something you clearly do not understand. I doubt you ever will.
Yes, around the world, the outlaw is celebrated. Butch Cassidy, Jack the Ripper, Billy the Kid, Cockroach2008 the Steam Locomotive scrapper. Activity in an effort to destroy all the remaining steam locomotives is A-1 in my book!
No mental problems there. Many feel the same!
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 Yeah I wasn't kidding about the mental problems. Seriously, seek help if you aren't already. At the moment they're manifesting themselves as reapeating the same old crap we've heard a million times before and delusions of grandure. Sorry to crush your illusions but you are nothing more than scum.
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
@Paraffinmeister Thank you for your very helpful suggestion. However, I must decline for I have determined you are not medically qualified to make any such judgment.
You demonstrate the very same aliment. Endless repeating of phrases & statements for which you do not agree. You offer nothing new in any dialog. If these are real symptoms, then we both suffer.
Your opinion of me, "Thank You! I sincerely appreciate it!" I think less of you but I refuse to engage in name calling on this forum.
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 I've reapeated the same phrases over and statements over and over again in the hope that the message might eventually stick in the great void between your ears.
I'm still waiting for some answeres to my questions btw, if you're as smart as you make out then you should be able to answere them easily. If not then it proves everything I've said about you.
That isn't name calling, it's stating facts.
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
@Paraffinmeister You don't need to repeat yourself. Your message was heard the first time.
You need the constant reminding. I am a scrap yard operator, not a marine engineer. I don't take turn overs from a previous shift in the engine room. I look through the stuff to determine it's scrap value.
You prove nothing! But, if you think you have, believe what you want to believe.
When I scrap your steam locomotive, you will believe. If collectible parts were taken your mental fog will clear!
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 And I'm not saying you are a marine engineer. You said you knew what was in your average engine room and I asked you to prove it by listing it. Cut the bullshit excuses and just do it, unlesss of course you can't because as ever you're talking out of your arse!
We're all still waiting for you to tell us where your yard is too. Or can you not even do that?
Since when have I owned a steam loco? You're proposing we scrap an imaginary loco in an imaginary yard now? You've lost it!=P
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
O yes U R!
bigredlover77 1 year ago
@bigredlover77 We have one fixed location. The rest is mobile. Some of the stuff can't be moved because it is not fit to transport on some right of way.
We go to the site & start cutting on location, putting pieces into trucks & haul it to the scrap yard. Sometimes it is our yard & sometimes we sign a contract with another yard to take the material & send it to the smelter!
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 ~ Oh yeah? That's nice...but, you still haven't anwered the question..."Where is it?" - If you truthfully owned & operated said 'scrapyard', you would respond by saying, "None of your business!". Instead, you continue with the same repetitive transparent rhetoric, unsuccessful attempt to elude the question.
You don't know this, but, to form such long-winded explainations- than refuse answering- speaks volumes about your dishonesty.
bigredlover77 1 year ago
@bigredlover77 I do run a yard. However, much of our work is scrap on site.
Since much of this garbage was parked many years ago & it is not likely to ever roll again or the trackway connections have been pulled apart, we usually end up going to the wreck, cut it up there & truck the pieces out. Most of this stuff is junk.
But, I want to see the rest of them junked, wrecked, graffiti painted & stripped of required operational parts & systems!
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 ~ But, where is your srapyard? You said you have a fixed location. Where is it?
bigredlover77 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 ~ Of all the "grafitti-painted, stripped of required operational parts & systems, garbage- who's trackway connections have been pulled apart" ...you, are the most transparent! Hahaa!!! You are truly funny, brother! Are you embarrassed about not having anything to do (besides discrediting yourself infinitley further)? ~ See, you just want to see them destroyed..no matter of "CASH" benefit. You argued(tried to argue) that point before. Of course, you failed..again.
bigredlover77 1 year ago
@bigredlover77 Believe what you want to believe! I don't care.
I just let people know where the stuff is at for scrapping & souvenir collection!
Junk all the remaining steam locomotives!
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 ~ "The stuff" must be between the 'a' & 't' at the end of Preposition Street?
You have no knowledge to convey to anyone.

@Cockroach2008 ~ When I want your opinion, I'll give it to you. I'll give you your opinion.
bigredlover77 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 ~ You're the type of guy who would walk a 100 miles of abandoned steel track(CASH) to loot the remains of a steam-locomotive just to spite anyone who wouldn't!! Hahaha!!!- You're a silly fella A Capella!!!- Damn I'm smart! haha! (That means..you're alone) You've got California written all over yourself, kiddo!
bigredlover77 1 year ago
@bigredlover77 Not quite right! I wouldn't walk that far. I let people know about it & what is out there. They need the money!
Let them scrap it!
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 ~ You obviously feel obligated to explain your way out of answering the simplest of questions. See, children are perplexed as to how their parents know when they're lying. (You're experiencing all the dynamics of the preceeding sentence). - Only a child or idiot would under-estimate the intellect of others the way you do. You haven't informed anyone of anything unknown! You don't care about other peoples' financial woes, & scrapping steam locos won't cure it..dumbass!!!
bigredlover77 1 year ago
@bigredlover77 If I did not care about other people, I would not be seeking out these relics to keep my scrapping crew employed, paid & happy!
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 Answer the damn questions ffs! All you're doing atm is making yourself look like a retard.=P
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
@Paraffinmeister ~ cockroach isn't equipped of masculinity yet. He has no sense of accountibility for his statements because he doesen't know who he is. He is all opinion & zero fact.- Basically, he's harmless...albeit, annoying! Haha!
Either way, he's a mis-informed, misled kid, who's only strength is...commenting where his statements would be least accepted (like a Nazi in a Synagogue)!!!
It's easy to ridicule him but his,'steam-train psychosis' is sheer comedy!!Haha!! Funny stuff!!!
bigredlover77 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 ~ Unless you're utterly incompetent and lack any sensory ability, you would be aware of why your opinions about steam-locos wouldn't be well recieved (before expressing them!) on the pages you exclusively choose to comment about.
Your comments aren't to inform anyone of anything, (they contain no information) but only to annoy people who enjoy the media posted. -Scrap-metal yards don't have the option to 'specialize' in steam-locomotives (and remain 'in business').
bigredlover77 1 year ago
@bigredlover77 Never said I specialize in steam locomotive scrapping. But we do perform it, gladly!
I don't care how these people feel about my comments!
We just want to see them scrapped, junked, cut apart & melted.
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 You lying toad! It's plastered over your profile that you specialise in them. Obviously bullshit, but it does go to show just how blatantly obvious it is that you will lie about anything!
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
@Paraffinmeister Yes it says I specialize in scrapping steam locomotives. And I do!
Lying? Send me your steam locomotive for scrapping. I will be glad to show you!
In the mean time, if anyone needs some quick CASH, should you remove parts from a steam locomotive, the parts can be sold quickly for CASH with NO QUESTIONS ASKED! It is not hard!
These junkers are just waiting for an urban graffiti paint job! Then remove the gauge sets, (worth thousands of US dollars). Handsome profit!
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 Buisness must be slow if you do specialise in them, infact it would be non existant, oh wait that's because it is non existant! This would also explane why you can't tell us where your yard is, since it only exists in your mind.
In the meantime, if you find yourself short of cash, don't hesitate to go find yourself a real job and stop wasting your life with some fantasy scrap filled world on youtube, cash in hand, no questions asked. It's not that hard!
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
@Paraffinmeister Business is very brisk. Thank you for your concern. It is not very active in the steam locomotive scrapping lately, but it will pick up soon.
I am now hearing of more "incidents" around steam locomotives. It seems like they have become a target for quick CASH!
I told you it would happen! It won't be long, they are all headed for the scrapper!
The sooner the better! Have a great day!
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 As if! You still havn't told us where this yard is. I would have thought that someone with your gift for lying would have been able to make up a location by now even!
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
@Paraffinmeister I can make up plenty of places! I take care of my own yard! If you have a steam locomotive I can put to the cutting torch, I will tell you!
But, to think I will tell you so you can come around & heckle me, THINK AGAIN!
However, I sincerely thank you for your interest!
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 I think heckling would be the last of your worries, try flaming torch wielding lynch mobs, and who's fault is that? YOURS, for being such an arrogant loudmouthed prick!
However this does mean that yet again, you've failed to come up with the hard evedence to back up your claims. It therefore can only be assumed that no such place exists.
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
@Paraffinmeister You do what you feel necessary!
The proof is in about 80 new manhole covers, poured from the melted remains of a steam locomotive we cut apart in December 2008.
Every time I spit on one of them, it warms my heart!
My scrap yard exists! And we have cut up 2 of these junkers so far!
More to come!
Cockroach2008 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 That's not proof, that's just you saying things. I want answeres not excuses! You're worse than a politician! What was the works number of this mythical loco, what was it's running number and where is this mythical yard of yours. Until you can tell us these simple things then you can't prove anything. If you're not going to tell us, just shjut up and go back to counting your fingers again.
Paraffinmeister 1 year ago
@Cockroach2008 you lazy dumb liar, you're insulting steam enthusiasts and railfans, not to mention the descendants of the companies that built these locomotives!! YOU ARE A TRAITOR TO AMERICA IF YOU EVEN MENTION SCRAPPING A STEAM LOCOMOTIVE!!! these masterpieces were built and designed in the USA. and to say that on a video of one of the most powerful locomotive in the world is just plain wrong, insulting, and traitorous.
