@10FlatTires He will throw that hard off the mound to tho. Because if you haven't realized they are throwing on flat ground so as you call getting a "running start" just shows the explosiveness off of a mound that's all.

These guys know what there talking about. They had a seminar at Maverick Field where I play travle ball and these guys that are throwing are complete BEASTS.
After watching this i still don't get the point of throwing the ball with a high arc when doing long toss, because you throw it on a line when your pitching..how does that help you throw harder?
Hey, I've started doing everything shown in this video, I want to know how many days a week is recommended to do this long toss workout. I also have Jaegersports bands, I'm a freshman junior college Pitcher Throwing 87 88 mph. Looking to increase my velocity. 17 years old.
@MrStudlyPants Yeah, I know. I just thought it was cheesy to take a velo reading seriously when the guy is practically running up. Either way, I'm a big fan of Jaeger's program.
Ok ....most people dont know but the "other" guy in the video besides China is Trevor Bauer....the third overall pick in the draft this year....bot these guys are about 6'1" 180 lbs....
I'm 14 years old and I've been long-tossing since a month ago, and maybe you're gonna laugh at me, but do you think that throwing 118 ft is a good distance for a 14 years old guy? I mean, that's the average distance I throw. Maybe my longest throw is 121 ft. Of course, I'm not gonna stop at 118 ft, I'll be looking for more distance as my arm gets used to this type of work. Best Regards ;) Thanks for your answers!!
i gotta admit i thought i had one of the best arms out there but that guy throwing that far??? that was rediculous..... this video really got me pumped up to start doing more long toss more often...i always looked at long toss ass who can throw the ball further...but this video showed be that its all about stretching. thank you guys for the video.... im at 305 ft now and gaining.
@stalkervision. Our college coaches have us use this program at our school and the point of having the pitchers throw long toss is to teach them to use their whole body when they are throwing to get the maximum out of each throw and that translates into them using everything they have when pitching from the mound. This program works so before you and everyone who agrees with you comes on here and talks it down because you were never good at baseball, get your facts straight.
I like long toss and Jaeger's program in general, but it's worth noting that McCarney has been battling major arm injuries after being drafted. Additionally, at an MLB scouted event, he was only 88-89 with his fastball in game situations. You can find this on MLB's 2008 draft tracker.
@drivelinebaseball No one promoting long toss will tell you that it's a guarantee your arm won't get injured. Pitching puts torque on your arm it is not meant to withstand. Some people have naturally stronger arms than others. Long toss will strengthen your arm, but if you have a genetically weak link in there, it can break no matter what. Long toss can help, but it's not a cure-all or a sure thing. As to McCarney, he had a rash of personal problems after HS, not arm problems.
Remove the crow hop the kid does before he pitches and he would be throwing low 80s...And at the beginning, OF COURSE the guy is going to say his arm hurt when he didn't long toss, but keep in mind he is trying to sell himself as a product. Why wouldn't he say something to back himself up? Throwing the ball 360' in a game would do nothing but make batters run on you as you loft the ball into the sky. Im not against LT, but lets keep things specific and save long tossing for a nice warmup...
C'mon Dick Mills...This program is made to condition the arm & if the arm isn't properly conditioned you could gain 5 mph or so. Nowhere does he say this is something you would use in a game. And if you look up China McCarney...he's listed to throw mid 90s. Next time please think before you speak.
@99Silverado53 You're missing the point. The point is that the video is deceiving to viewers. As I said before, I'm not against long toss, and I'm not knocking it. I'm trying to point out to everyone watching that they need to take the video with a grain of salt (apparently you missed this). So maybe the kid does throw 90s, BUT he does crow hop before he throws in the video so he gains more velocity. I agree with long tossing for a warm up but not everyday. Think before you try to rip me.
Ok...now you're just blabbering. A crow hop doesn't help as much as you think versus throwing off a mound. And you misunderstood the video if you think it's deceiving...OF COURSE he's gonna say his arm hurt cause he didn't long toss...true or not he's trying to sell a product. But they are still 100% more honest than dick mills (former mlb pitcher) who pitched a couple innings back in 1970.
@stalkervision haha ok...take someone standing on 2 feet throwing a ball as far as they can, then have the same person throw with a crow hop and see which one goes faster/harder...cmon dude
@stalkervision haha ok...take someone standing on 2 feet throwing a ball as far as they can, then have the same person throw with a crow hop and see which one goes faster/harder...cmon dude notice in the video that the farther away from eachother the players get, the larger the crow hop is...i wonder why??? hmmm...maybe because it creates more force...basic physics
Crow hopping does zip.. People with poor energy storage and release from their lower body still can't throw worth diddly using that trick. Also You may or may not not realize it isn't allowed. Seen that trick a million times and they still suck. Maybe enough hopping will get them close enough to the catcher to make a difference though. Say this mantra "Tom Sever..Tom Sever" then study him. All his energy came from his lower body as all great pitchers do. Basic pitching baseball mechanics dude.
In fact teaching kids to pitch using this lame crow hop trick will do nothing but get them disappointed. It's less then worthless because it teaches no basic pitching mechanics whatsoever.
@stalkervision i know, lol if you want the kid to be a better pitcher, work on core strength and pitching from a mound. Thats why I don't think pitchers should even long toss because it really doesnt "strengthen" your arm, and it shreds your joints... their farthest throw is 60'6" so why bother? i agree with you completely
@Jviebran Exactly, can't agree with you more j/b and pitching from a proper mound is incredibly important. Glad you added that in since I totally forgot too. My bad. It's essential in fact to work out all the proper full body mechanics of pitching. If one uses their lower body strength coupled with their upper body over "being a arm pitcher" they will keep that arms healthy for a long long time. Nolan Ryan is a good example of this.
He throws the ball at least 360 ft....he throws it from the goal line....the length of the 100 yard field...through the uprights at the other end of the field and lands in the shot put area behind the end zone...that is at least 360 feet!!!
This video is a little deceptive. This dude didn't just walk on the football field and throw 97 after a 25 minutes of long toss. That kind of velocity requires months of conditioning and practicing of proper throwing mechanics, and more importantly a natural muscle quickness. That said, long toss is still very good for your arm.
1 yard = 3 ft. ....from one goal line to the uprights of the goal post at the rear of the end zone at the other end is 100 yards to the goal line and 10 yards for the end-zone...100 +10= 110 yards.......the guy splits the uprights and the ball hits at least 10 yards past the goal post....that is 100 +10+10= 120 YARD...120 x 3= 360 feet .....the kid in the video was throwing at least 360....(.the 300 ft reference was to the "biolinquin" post of someone throwing 81-82 ).
I have seen people that can throw the ball from one corner of the field to the other, and they dont throw more than 81-82. can somebody explain me why is that.
@biolinquin the teorical explanation to that is the angle of the ball the grip of the ball, etc, if you hold the ball too tight it will be going down as it breaks the air, and if you trow it to high it will fall short, is like throwing a football, you dont need to be like ronnie coleman to throw it hard or long, it comes to technique
Great video. Indeed distance throwing is a great way to increase velocity. My distance thrwing was something to behold in my high school years. I once amazed the spectators by throwing a ball completely out of the ball park from deep center field. LOL! I also picked off a runner from medium center field that expected to reach home from third base on that hit. Boy was he surprised. He got about 20 ft before the ball was in the catchers hands and was tagged out.
@WyrmDL Coming from a obvious shit smelling expert you should know. You may want to pull your head out your own ass occasionally and get some fresh air child. What I said was the ABSOLUTE truth. When I did that and was embarrassed for such a long over throw of home plate and looked at the crowd in the bleachers waiting for them to laugh at me all I saw was mouths hanging wide open in amazement ! LOL ! Sorry your jealous you such a ragged arm clueless lame brain.
Totally agree with you...I have no clue how to throw hard or strengthen my arm...and I am irrelevant....but I am man enough to admit it. I do know that some of the greatest coaches and players in the world endorse this program and the endorsements on the Jaeger websites attest to that...it seems like the few people who try to criticize this program just ignore the statements from active players and coaches......maybe those players and coaches do not know anything either....
@mcgomp its not about the arm strength, its about using your lower body and core to throw your arm.. do more exercises to strenghten your hips and legs that will increase your velocity and of course good mechanics
mcgomp u r a joke and have no idea how to throw a strengthen your arm to throw harder. And who cares how hard u can throw crow hopping you throw off a mound so that is irrelavent
all right enough already.....for those of you that really want some educated opinions...go to Jaege sports.com and click on Coaches testimonials...just about every elite D-1 coach endorses the program...
hes said i try to throw it 300 duh u cant throw it on a line but go as far as u can on a line and u will built arm strength bottom line. Throw the ball to warm up you dont need bands. who cares if he met dr. andrews that doesnt mean anything. he was with the rangers in spring training what does that even mean hes a coach come on.
Just a coincidence that The Rangers beat the Yankees last night...and Jaeger was in Spring training with them......and Jaeger was Invited down to Alabama last summer to meet with Dr. Andrews ASM.....Just hocus pocus. huh?..and now I show you a quote from Greg Maddux saying he threw 300 ft.....but you say "it must of been on a line".......Show me a human that can throw 300 ft on a line....it is all part of a healthy progression to the pull down phase to build velocity and arm health....
300 on a line proably not a moon shot. the way lincecums windup is why would he throw a ball with a fly ball like line. He uses so much leverage theres no way he every throws a ball like that period
Love this statement by one of the greatest pitchers of all time........
"I'll start playing long toss in January. If I can throw it 200 feet, I try to throw it 300 feet. I don't stop at 120 feet, I throw it as far as I can." –Greg Maddux,
Great pitcher after great pitcher keeps talking about the benefits of Long Tossing....and still the Nay Sayers deny the results....The Hall of Famer, and or Cy Young winners like Maddux, Lincecum and Zito are just confused.. i think not!!
no response......your responses do not even make sense............as the Chinese proverb states ....Ignorance guards the gate to enlightenment more fiercely than enlightenment tries to shine out.....
zitos lost of velocity has been well documented. Long toss is going as far as you can on a line bottom line this long toss is useless because they dont use the same muscles you use in the pull down phase. Lincecum started getting after it in long toss not going back to 300 feet lolly popping it. How would that get your mph up. its not that hard mcgomp
no response......your responses do not even make sense.........as the Chinese proverb states ....Ignorance guards the gate to enlightenment more fiercely than enlightenment tries to shine out.....
So the Lincecums, Zitos and Harens are just mistaken?....I think they have thrown a baseball once or twice.......explain why Lincecums' velocity went in the toilet this year when the Giants had him stop long tossing....and why it came back when he told them he HAD TO LONG TOSS....now he is back to throwing gas and has tied Bob Gibson for 22 K'S in his first two outings in the LCS....
only if you can put a bunch of arc on it throwing 300 feet does your arm open up thats the dumbest thing i have ever heard you clearly have never throwing a baseball 230 feet on a line
You go out as far as you can go keeping it on a line a good line is the height of the fence. Theres no advantage to strecthing your arm out to 300 feet. The more explosive throws the better. If you watched the yankess game tonight you would have heard how smoltz had only 12 min to get ready for the game you think he had time to his bands before no he didnt. went right to pull down phase cause thats the way you throw the ball hard plan and simple train your arm to throw the right way
all organizations have you do long toss just not this type of program. This program is not good for arm strengthing. For this program u make more throws in the streching out phase then in the pull down phase. The muscles you use in the pull down phase are different from the ones they do in the strecthing phase its not a good idea to teach your arm to throw that way when thats not they way you throw off the mound plan and simple. Think about it Mcgomp
Most organizations don't really "Long toss".....except for guys like Haren, Zito and Lincecum fighting their organizations to throw 300 plus...most guys go out under 250. if that....watch any pre game warm up and it is rare to see any of the pitchers opening their arm up with 300 ft throws ...organizations restrict it.....the pull down is taking the opening up of the stretching out phase and putting it into explosive mode...and then go to the mound and apply it...makes too much sense.
??? clock what?.lolly pop?..360 FT? what are you guys talking about...Try throwing a baseball 360ft...That is a"Jaeger Bomb". .. when Tim Lincecum lost velocity this year he demanded that the Giants let him go back to long tossing ...and now he is dominating again....the sad part is so many organizations and college coaches take these guys that long toss in the off season and then wont let them do it during the season..so sad...they come in throwing gas and then are told to go 120 ft...just dumb
This program is to be used before you go into the pen. I don't know of many pitchers that go straight into the pen and only have 10 minutes to get warm, but if they are, they are putting their arm at great risk. This is by far the best and most well rounded program out there. Its not about "Lolly popping" the ball, it is about stretching out before you start the pull down phase. If you are going to run a 60 yard dash you aren't going to do it cold. Try it and you will never look back.
not a good program. when are you ever gonna lolly pop one 300 feet let alone 120 skip that stretch out fase do the pull down phase whole time and your arm will get strong. also if it takes you that long to get loose what are you gonna do when your in the pen and you have to get hot in 10 min think about it
this is a really good program. i do it 3 to 4 times a week and i went from throwing mid 70s last baseball season to throwin mid 80s during this fall ball. my goal is to keep doing it and be hitting high 80s low 90s when the season starts.. really good program i suggest every pitcher to do it!!!
Good suggestion man, I too think all pitchers should give the program a try and not only for the velocity improvement but the arm care and health program.
i just threw it 354ft whoaa!! currently im a freshman at macomb community college, will be transfering to oakland university d1 school in a couple years ;) ( im a pitcher)
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
its not that hard to throw a whole football field. yeah im freshmeat but im stronger than juniors and have been playing bball since age 5. im gonna go pro and dont care what anyone says about it. I WILL MAKE IT
wow i suck i feel bad now.. because iam a football player i used to hate baseball players i fond out baseball was coool but i never warm up and now i now i can reach that thanks,,, btw i trow a 92 miles but it goes down after the 2nd 1 no warm up hohoh bye
Getting sore from not long tossing? Is that true? Is the like saying if your dont workout with heavyweight and turn to lights weights you will hurt or turn smaller?
I've topped out at 310 feet this year. Last year i was only able to throw 285 feet. Long toss does help, but I recomend no more than 4 days a week. If you do it too much, you will tire your arm out quickly.
you cant really say the guy can pitch 97 bcuz hes throwin with a curl hop. not giving a negative comment or anything like that. i think this is a good workout.
I pitch at 86-89 and can touch 92. I haven't ever really done much as far as long tossing goes. I'm wondering if this program is legit and if so has anyone on here done it and had good results. I would like to be pitching at 88-90 and topping out at 94.
Most pro programs start you out with doing it 3 days a week for a few weeks before you get into more strenuous throwing... And by long toss that means like 5 throws at 10 yards, 5 at 20, 5 at 30, 5 at 50, and moving back till you get to your max where you only make one throw, then work your way back in. But every program is different. I would say that you should do long toss as much as your body would let you, but never try to throw threw pain during an offseason or down time...
you could do it everyday (i wouldnt) but you have to make sure to stretch it well everytime and HAVE to ice it if your throwing hard or you will injure your rotator or arm
How often should a player throw long toss like this? Right now, I can only throw 220ft. I warmed up properly, jogged to get blood flowing, but had some bad shoulder/bicep pain the next day... Any tips?
Dont go straight into long toss and spend alot of time doing long toss if you havent thrown in a while. Bicep pain means that the rotator cuff muscles that try to slow the arm down (which are located in the back of the shoulder) are weak right now and your body is trying to compensate right now by using your bicep to slow down your arm... The problem is, your bicep cant do that. So what you have to do is strengthen your rotator cuff muscles first by building up to long toss or band work first.
apparently you havent played baseball sovietskii... this video isnt saying it makes you a better pitcher, its teaching you how to make your arm stronger. im an outfeilder in college and ive been using this program for a year now. its not only for pitchers, its for everyone on the field. long toss is one of the biggest keys for you to be a great player.
A little misleading... I heard it was a 97 mph pitch, but he does crow hop when he throw.... I would have liked to see him go off a mound to get clocked, and agreed long toss is the best way to strengthen an arm.
no to everyone who is saying long toss is not good or dosnt help with pitching velocity or mechanics yaw are wrong I was a junior last baseball season throwing 84... over last summer i me and three other pitchers began long tossing and still did wen the season started and the nxt year which was this bseball season my velocity is now up to 89 and me and my teammates who longtossed with me have all gone up minimal 5 mph in velocity and we all throw more strikes and dont hardly ever have sore arms
HOw can long toss improve your pitching? It'S simply illogical. First because arm strenght doesn't makes velocity.
The other is that the technic is very different. A pitchign pitchers "flat" downward, Long toss throw arcs and upward. You can get a crow-up in logn toss, but you have a single push in pitching. You aim for feet over 300 i na balistic trajectory in long toss, you aim for quarter of inches 60,5' in pitching...
This is simply a myth. And I can confirm. Every pitcher or almost in our minor leagues long tossed and how many went up to the 90s?
The problem is that pitchign is all about mechanics; no drills, no long tossing, nothing. Pitching is the only key to know how to pitch. At worst pitch on flat ground, but at least pitch.
You already have enough to throw well over 100mph (average man). It's your joints that can't hold it. Stop training, you are already overpowerful. Pitch.
Here you could say: so why did it got him a sorearm not to long toss?
He's too idiot to warm up both mechanics and muscles correctly. Long toss involves the same muscles, but in a different coordination. And you know by your eye that you are goign too far too quick, but it's hard to feel you do the same with pitching.
I have no doubt it's a good warm-up or simpyl to kee pyour arm active... No problem, but don'T think it's going to give you more numbers on the radar.
He maybe has improper mechanics or went to play infield for entier week while pitching... I don't know.
What I can say is that many can throw far, but not hard and the inverse being true and that you don't need to get more muscles to pitch hard. This shows that a great motion implies power and that both long tossing and pitching motions doesn't train the same timing and coordination.
@SovietskiiSniper u are an idiot. you have no idea wat you are talking about. mechanics dont make you throw hard. having fast muscles make you throw hard. the only way to get fast muscles is to train them to be fast. thats why you do long toss and then the pull down method. every pitcher who throws 95 has different mechanics so how are you gonna try to say its mechanics that make you throw hard
@elrotenga yea its everything when it comes to pitching. pitching doesnt necessarily mean throwing hard. and throwing hard doesnt require pitching. this program is for throwing hard and getting you to finish. mechanics are worked on separately.
This is where idiots lack in judgement: taking a result as being the generator of its own reality.
But, my friend, arm speed is the result of your preceding action. You do not speed up your arm with shoulder and triceps only. It comes from a complex kinetic chain.
And this action must be coordinate. Which means you have to practice pitching and nothing else to be a good pitcher. Drills makes you robotic and Long toss doesn't train you for pitching.
it works? How many players are there in the high school? A bunch right?
All long Tossing, all drilling. Or almost all, to be right. Most coaches uses this. How many hit over 90 MPH? not much. I showed power isn't a problem, but how can they lack in?
I showed you needed fluidity you can only gain through pitchign itself. I showed the actions where too different. Besides, pitching injurries have gone rising since the 40s and so did drills and Long toss. Stats and logic on my side. Show I'm wrong
Cal State Fullerton uses them..

Long toss can help, but it's not a cure-all or a sure thing. As to McCarney, he had a rash of personal problems after HS, not arm problems.
FastWalkToFresno 10 months ago
Remove the crow hop the kid does before he pitches and he would be throwing low 80s...And at the beginning, OF COURSE the guy is going to say his arm hurt when he didn't long toss, but keep in mind he is trying to sell himself as a product. Why wouldn't he say something to back himself up? Throwing the ball 360' in a game would do nothing but make batters run on you as you loft the ball into the sky. Im not against LT, but lets keep things specific and save long tossing for a nice warmup...
Jviebran 11 months ago
@Jviebran
C'mon Dick Mills...This program is made to condition the arm & if the arm isn't properly conditioned you could gain 5 mph or so. Nowhere does he say this is something you would use in a game. And if you look up China McCarney...he's listed to throw mid 90s. Next time please think before you speak.
99Silverado53 11 months ago
@99Silverado53 You're missing the point. The point is that the video is deceiving to viewers. As I said before, I'm not against long toss, and I'm not knocking it. I'm trying to point out to everyone watching that they need to take the video with a grain of salt (apparently you missed this). So maybe the kid does throw 90s, BUT he does crow hop before he throws in the video so he gains more velocity. I agree with long tossing for a warm up but not everyday. Think before you try to rip me.
Jviebran 10 months ago
@Jviebran
99Silverado53 10 months ago
@Jviebran Crow hopping does nothing for distance except to hop closer to your target. LOL !

Jviebran 9 months ago
Crow hopping does zip.. People with poor energy storage and release from their lower body still can't throw worth diddly using that trick. Also You may or may not not realize it isn't allowed. Seen that trick a million times and they still suck. Maybe enough hopping will get them close enough to the catcher to make a difference though. Say this mantra "Tom Sever..Tom Sever" then study him. All his energy came from his lower body as all great pitchers do. Basic pitching baseball mechanics dude.
stalkervision 9 months ago
In fact teaching kids to pitch using this lame crow hop trick will do nothing but get them disappointed. It's less then worthless because it teaches no basic pitching mechanics whatsoever.
stalkervision 9 months ago
@stalkervision i know, lol if you want the kid to be a better pitcher, work on core strength and pitching from a mound. Thats why I don't think pitchers should even long toss because it really doesnt "strengthen" your arm, and it shreds your joints... their farthest throw is 60'6" so why bother? i agree with you completely
Jviebran 9 months ago
@Jviebran Exactly, can't agree with you more j/b and pitching from a proper mound is incredibly important. Glad you added that in since I totally forgot too. My bad. It's essential in fact to work out all the proper full body mechanics of pitching. If one uses their lower body strength coupled with their upper body over "being a arm pitcher" they will keep that arms healthy for a long long time. Nolan Ryan is a good example of this.
stalkervision 9 months ago
@Jviebran Yeah, that's BS. What's his velocity from a normal delivery...running up gives you about 5 mph.
Frederick0220 8 months ago
He throws the ball at least 360 ft....he throws it from the goal line....the length of the 100 yard field...through the uprights at the other end of the field and lands in the shot put area behind the end zone...that is at least 360 feet!!!

This video is a little deceptive. This dude didn't just walk on the football field and throw 97 after a 25 minutes of long toss. That kind of velocity requires months of conditioning and practicing of proper throwing mechanics, and more importantly a natural muscle quickness. That said, long toss is still very good for your arm.

@mcgomp you can tell by the yards on the foot ball field. 1 yard=3 feet. he was a good 300-315 feet away
DipKings3327 1 year ago
I have seen people that can throw the ball from one corner of the field to the other, and they dont throw more than 81-82. can somebody explain me why is that.
biolinquin 1 year ago
@biolinquin the teorical explanation to that is the angle of the ball the grip of the ball, etc, if you hold the ball too tight it will be going down as it breaks the air, and if you trow it to high it will fall short, is like throwing a football, you dont need to be like ronnie coleman to throw it hard or long, it comes to technique
RIP2zone 1 year ago
Great video. Indeed distance throwing is a great way to increase velocity. My distance thrwing was something to behold in my high school years. I once amazed the spectators by throwing a ball completely out of the ball park from deep center field. LOL! I also picked off a runner from medium center field that expected to reach home from third base on that hit. Boy was he surprised. He got about 20 ft before the ball was in the catchers hands and was tagged out.

LOL ! Sorry your jealous you such a ragged arm clueless lame brain.

Totally agree with you...I have no clue how to throw hard or strengthen my arm...and I am irrelevant....but I am man enough to admit it. I do know that some of the greatest coaches and players in the world endorse this program and the endorsements on the Jaeger websites attest to that...it seems like the few people who try to criticize this program just ignore the statements from active players and coaches......maybe those players and coaches do not know anything either....
mcgomp 1 year ago 112
@mcgomp its not about the arm strength, its about using your lower body and core to throw your arm.. do more exercises to strenghten your hips and legs that will increase your velocity and of course good mechanics

I don't stop at 120 feet, I throw it as far as I can." –Greg Maddux,
Great pitcher after great pitcher keeps talking about the benefits of Long Tossing....and still the Nay Sayers deny the results....The Hall of Famer, and or Cy Young winners like Maddux, Lincecum and Zito are just confused.. i think not!!

zitos lost of velocity has been well documented. Long toss is going as far as you can on a line bottom line this long toss is useless because they dont use the same muscles you use in the pull down phase. Lincecum started getting after it in long toss not going back to 300 feet lolly popping it. How would that get your mph up. its not that hard mcgomp

only if you can put a bunch of arc on it throwing 300 feet does your arm open up thats the dumbest thing i have ever heard you clearly have never throwing a baseball 230 feet on a line
TheBla45 1 year ago
You go out as far as you can go keeping it on a line a good line is the height of the fence. Theres no advantage to strecthing your arm out to 300 feet. The more explosive throws the better. If you watched the yankess game tonight you would have heard how smoltz had only 12 min to get ready for the game you think he had time to his bands before no he didnt. went right to pull down phase cause thats the way you throw the ball hard plan and simple train your arm to throw the right way
TheBla45 1 year ago
all organizations have you do long toss just not this type of program.
TheBla45 1 year ago
@TheBla45
Most organizations don't really "Long toss".....except for guys like Haren, Zito and Lincecum fighting their organizations to throw 300 plus...most guys go out under 250. if that....watch any pre game warm up and it is rare to see any of the pitchers opening their arm up with 300 ft throws ...organizations restrict it.....the pull down is taking the opening up of the stretching out phase and putting it into explosive mode...and then go to the mound and apply it...makes too much sense.

mcgomp 1 year ago
This program is to be used before you go into the pen. I don't know of many pitchers that go straight into the pen and only have 10 minutes to get warm, but if they are, they are putting their arm at great risk. This is by far the best and most well rounded program out there. Its not about "Lolly popping" the ball, it is about stretching out before you start the pull down phase. If you are going to run a 60 yard dash you aren't going to do it cold. Try it and you will never look back.
19China19 1 year ago
not a good program. when are you ever gonna lolly pop one 300 feet let alone 120 skip that stretch out fase do the pull down phase whole time and your arm will get strong. also if it takes you that long to get loose what are you gonna do when your in the pen and you have to get hot in 10 min think about it

How many days a week would one do "long toss" for maximum efficiency?
PROJECTTROJANWARRIOR 2 years ago
Most pro programs start you out with doing it 3 days a week for a few weeks before you get into more strenuous throwing... And by long toss that means like 5 throws at 10 yards, 5 at 20, 5 at 30, 5 at 50, and moving back till you get to your max where you only make one throw, then work your way back in. But every program is different. I would say that you should do long toss as much as your body would let you, but never try to throw threw pain during an offseason or down time...
SvNsEt 2 years ago
you could do it everyday (i wouldnt) but you have to make sure to stretch it well everytime and HAVE to ice it if your throwing hard or you will injure your rotator or arm
reecer101 2 years ago
This program works im Throwings 90 mph now!
baseballkilla17 2 years ago
How often should a player throw long toss like this? Right now, I can only throw 220ft. I warmed up properly, jogged to get blood flowing, but had some bad shoulder/bicep pain the next day... Any tips?
andros1984 2 years ago
Dont go straight into long toss and spend alot of time doing long toss if you havent thrown in a while. Bicep pain means that the rotator cuff muscles that try to slow the arm down (which are located in the back of the shoulder) are weak right now and your body is trying to compensate right now by using your bicep to slow down your arm... The problem is, your bicep cant do that. So what you have to do is strengthen your rotator cuff muscles first by building up to long toss or band work first.

okbandit22 2 years ago
A little misleading... I heard it was a 97 mph pitch, but he does crow hop when he throw.... I would have liked to see him go off a mound to get clocked, and agreed long toss is the best way to strengthen an arm.
TorontoBlueJays99 2 years ago
no to everyone who is saying long toss is not good or dosnt help with pitching velocity or mechanics yaw are wrong I was a junior last baseball season throwing 84... over last summer i me and three other pitchers began long tossing and still did wen the season started and the nxt year which was this bseball season my velocity is now up to 89 and me and my teammates who longtossed with me have all gone up minimal 5 mph in velocity and we all throw more strikes and dont hardly ever have sore arms
genechiz09 2 years ago
how are they wrong? This is all legit homie......
drewbell88 2 years ago
those distances seem wrong...
imreallydumb123 2 years ago
HOw can long toss improve your pitching? It'S simply illogical. First because arm strenght doesn't makes velocity.
The other is that the technic is very different. A pitchign pitchers "flat" downward, Long toss throw arcs and upward. You can get a crow-up in logn toss, but you have a single push in pitching. You aim for feet over 300 i na balistic trajectory in long toss, you aim for quarter of inches 60,5' in pitching...
How can it improve you?
SovietskiiSniper 2 years ago
This is simply a myth. And I can confirm. Every pitcher or almost in our minor leagues long tossed and how many went up to the 90s?
The problem is that pitchign is all about mechanics; no drills, no long tossing, nothing. Pitching is the only key to know how to pitch. At worst pitch on flat ground, but at least pitch.
You already have enough to throw well over 100mph (average man). It's your joints that can't hold it. Stop training, you are already overpowerful. Pitch.
SovietskiiSniper 2 years ago
Here you could say: so why did it got him a sorearm not to long toss?
He's too idiot to warm up both mechanics and muscles correctly. Long toss involves the same muscles, but in a different coordination. And you know by your eye that you are goign too far too quick, but it's hard to feel you do the same with pitching.
I have no doubt it's a good warm-up or simpyl to kee pyour arm active... No problem, but don'T think it's going to give you more numbers on the radar.
SovietskiiSniper 2 years ago
Or, perhaps does he simply over pitched.
SovietskiiSniper 2 years ago
@SovietskiiSniper u are an idiot. you have no idea wat you are talking about. mechanics dont make you throw hard. having fast muscles make you throw hard. the only way to get fast muscles is to train them to be fast. thats why you do long toss and then the pull down method. every pitcher who throws 95 has different mechanics so how are you gonna try to say its mechanics that make you throw hard
phatneazy 1 year ago
@phatneazy actually......mechanics is everything. any pitching coach will tell you so.
elrotenga 1 year ago
@elrotenga yea its everything when it comes to pitching. pitching doesnt necessarily mean throwing hard. and throwing hard doesnt require pitching. this program is for throwing hard and getting you to finish. mechanics are worked on separately.
phatneazy 1 year ago
@phatneazy well still, mechanics can be the difference between a couple miles on a fastball, even if the guy throws hard already.
elrotenga 1 year ago
velocity comes from arm speed
imreallydumb123 2 years ago
Where does the arm speed comes from?
This is where idiots lack in judgement: taking a result as being the generator of its own reality.
But, my friend, arm speed is the result of your preceding action. You do not speed up your arm with shoulder and triceps only. It comes from a complex kinetic chain.
And this action must be coordinate. Which means you have to practice pitching and nothing else to be a good pitcher. Drills makes you robotic and Long toss doesn't train you for pitching.
SovietskiiSniper 2 years ago
but the point of this video is about gaining velocity and it works....
imreallydumb123 2 years ago
SovietskiiSniper 2 years ago
