Great video! I think anti-Jewish propaganda over the centuries, also by Christian clergics ("They murdered God"), has made the Jews at least outsiders in many eyes: "They do not belong to us". And when the Nazis very systematically isolated and eventually killed the Jews, too few identified with them, the majority remained indifferent. And Hitler's genocidal murderers had a free hand. Power control is most important, without it the most heinous crimes are possible.
@eltamin1966 Thanks for your comment! Yep, Christians have been instrumental in the past in the isolation of Jews. But don't forget that Muslims have too, since the beginning of their faith. Muhammad hated Jews because it was the Jews who cast him out. The Quran orders a military crusade against Jewish people for that reason. If someone literally interprets the Quran, it is very likely that they will also be anti-Semitic by nature. The ingredients for a disastrous modern Holocaust...
Normally I'd say 'not very likely', but you never know: Radical political fanatics unexpectedly seize power and turn things upside down: Who in Russia in 1912 would have dreamt of Stalin's heinous mass-murders 20-25 years later, which Jews in 1927 would imagine the abysmal nightmare of the gas chambers 15 years later? "Never again defenceless" is Israel's conclusion, with a strong army and nuclear deterrence. More they can't do.
That's cool how it related to your grandfather for you!
I do think you're right though- in Germany and Japan, I believe there is a growing "amnesia" of the bad things that were done- the Holocaust, the Rape of Nanking, the Bataan Death March, etc. A nation shouldn't dwell on the bad things that were done, but history needs to be remembered!
My mom worked with a lady who had grown up celebrating Christmas but she didn't even know ANYTHING about Jesus! That floored me!
@RogCBrand I believe Socialism-Communism has the goal of erasing religion-they believe that people should ONLY look to the state for guidance. God is competition for their control of the people! Between liberal government & liberal media, we get a steady erosion of morality, the twisting of the idea that God's word is too restrictive, that people need to be free of the idea of right & wrong and do what they like-yet at the same time liberalism tells us how to live, what we can say, etc.!
@RogCBrand Exactly, there are huge double standards in liberalism. At the same time we can't condemn people for exploring the Bible and interpreting it in different ways--that's how we grow in faith. I think that's one challenge that God has given us. It's something that everyone has to figure out for himself and meanwhile we have to try not to kill each other when we disagree.
@starfleetofficer1 Yeah, unlike Islam of today, when the followers of the two different branches are constantly killing each other, or how in Europe, centuries ago, there was the constant warfare between Catholic and Protestant. Christianity today tends to be very accepting- though I do think there has to be some limits- if a church decides that Jesus was just a man, not the son of God, then can that still be Christianity. Of course there could be much subtler things too.
