I grew up in Newark, New Jersey as a kid in the late 40's and early 1950's.

Every Saturday at exactly 12:00 Noon the sound of this kind of sirene would blast through the air for almost 5 straight minutes.

If you were within a mile of this siren, which was placed on a power pole at the corner of 16th Avenue and 17th Street, you knew exactly what time it was.

Here in holland we hear it every month :) the alarms here are tested every 1st monday of the month, and they sound 100% the same as the ones during ww2, and they sound for like 2 minutes :P well luckely i'd never seen german bombers comming on thos mondays haha
