Well, from what I've been able to gather from reading up a bit,(aka I typed it in Wikipedia...) it was created for the simple purpose of escaping confrontations, such as running from cops, muggers, anything like that. I think the real thing you'd hate is free running. Free running is mostly aesthetic, so all their moves are things like back flips, and all the "pretty looking" stuff. Parkour is just an efficient way to escape confrontation, but I completely understand what your saying.
