For all you fans of Philippe, see yet another side of this amazing man, live and down to earth on stage in NYC for the first time! Tell your friends, bring your friends. Look for the event on facebook!
June 16, 17 & 18th—"WIRELESS! Philippe Petit Down to Earth"
I watched 'Man on a Wire' on T.V. last night, and have never been so mesmerized by a true story in my entire life. This guy is a rare product of humanity; he personifies the beauty of danger, the death wish, & freedom all rolled into one. He sure has given us a wonderful memory of the Twin Towers. 'Stephenomist' was right - for all the heartache and grief that al queda caused, they look like 'a bunch of pussies' compared to this amazing man. I could watch this film time & time again. Pure magic.
Hey, Look best of all times Russian and USSR films with such names: Прогулка по эшафоту, Зверобой (1990), По прозвищу Зверь, Вий, Фанат, Ермак (1996), Охота на Пиранью, Фартовый, Садко, Отроки во вселенной + Москва-Кассиопея, Раз два горе не беда, Приключения Электроника. Who needs I can send links for downloading of these films.
I was 14 when he did this. I remember seeing him on the news being hauled away in handcuffs. I just watched the movie and it was absolutely amazing. Especially in light of the fact that the towers are now gone. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to see them and go up to the observation deck before 9/11. I believe his experience must have been akin to landing on the moon.
I saw the film on the BBC. I was spellbound! That morning Phillipe achieved something beyond art and showmanship. The images from this film will stay in your mind forever. The film itself is a fitting memorial to the Twin Towers.
A man did something on that day which was beyond art - something people usually have to interpret and discuss the meaning of, while "man on wire" was simply beautiful, prancing with death.
But since you cannot understand how thats even worth £19 I'm sure you'll understand this: u r a fag. lol
Me too! Ever since I saw it last night I think about it all the time. I think this man is an example to us all. What he did made me realize how life should be.
what ever happened to Jean Luis, Phillipe's best friend. It seemed that he was overwhelmed at the end of the movie with grief. Is there any information on their relationship today?? Or if their relationship soured after the walk?
Jean Luis wasn't crying out of grief...he was remembering the beauty of the act. Sometimes something is so beautiful that you can't hold back the tears.
The sequal is to be called "Coin in Pocket", I was just reading a print review, about a year after this posting! I've yet to see it, but it's on the list!
i was lucky to meet PP in 1977 when i was also a street performer in nyc. he was the best i ever saw, one day he even threw some coins in my hat and said i was very good, which of course meant more.
if you are under 30 yrs old and have a tolerance for humiliation and the stupidity of the general public then it has great potential for personal growth and connecting with random creative people as well as the best vehicle in the world for traveling. i was a juggler who never spoke and improvised comedy with the whatever was in my crowd
But the most amazing thing about the story has to be his vision and perseverance on doing something as difficult and extraordinary as that and the strong friendships that supported him.
Can someone tell me from where can i download the movie MacArthur Park?I`ve been searchin` it for years and i can`t seem to find it..it is somehow affiliated with sundance. Please reply
not a great interview but she's probably smarter than cindy sherman... the weird al yankovic of photography, and kanye west...the cindy sherman of hip hop.
maybe so, but just because she's a rhodes scholar, doesn't mean she's capable of intuiting interview subject's mood and thought patterns, as well as timing...., essential skills for a successful interviewer. They really should get somebody else. I was cringing and embarrassed for her.
Here here! And additionally, does being a scholar instantly prevent you from displaying idiotic characteristics? I didn't mean anything personal towards her, but she really makes a fool of herself during this interview...
The girl interviewing is cute, kinda reminds me of Jennifer Love Hewitte. It's funny how she gets shocked at the end ;) I'm definatly going to check this movie out, it looks cool and it would be nice seeing those towers again. Especially being a New Yorker.
Ben7seven7: I saw it yesterday and thought it was very well done. Very exciting., with much great footage/photos from 1971, 72, 73, 74. There is also humor throughout. What Philipe did is truly amazing. The man seems to have little fear of death, which is something that consciously or unconsciously affects all of us throughout our (fearful?) lives.
oh this was more than him walking on the wire. I found the relationships that was attached interesting. His girlfriend. and well I thought Jean-Louis was wonderfull and my favourtie of them all. Yes hes an amazing man, but only lived for one thing....and left life and real love behind.
I thought it was a brilliant doc and so well done. Funny also.
Private PersonalPlace: I'm a New Yorker and loved seeing Philippe perform his magic on our beautiful, much missed Twin Towers...during a much gentler, sweeter time in history. His energy and humor were remarable. The man is truly amazing!!
interesting guy..thats one heavy fall if it went wrong..amazing how he did it!!on the culture show in the uk, he said he used a bow and arrow with fishing line attached to the wire to get from the north to the south tower or vice verca.
I can't imagine anyone pulling such an illegal stunt today for no other motive than the beauty of it.
Nowadays, anyone trying something so audacious would be "sponsored" by Coca-Cola, Nike, Starbucks et al, and would have an army of lawyers negotiating a book-deal and TV rights... .
papilon0970: Thanks for your well put remarks! Philippe is pure class and a magical human being. I would like to say that "there should be more people like him" but, it seems, there aren't any. He is truly unique!

It also renewed my desire to see the Twin Towers rebuilt as they were.

very true! too much emphasis was on phillipe who comes across more as a megalomaniac, but his friend Jean Louis was the best

I saw "Man on Wire" a few days ago and I must admit that I was very, very moved.
It is a beautiful tale that is altogether inspirational, exciting, funny and touching.
It is also an interesting foray into notions od courage, friendship and love.
Merci Monsieur Petit!
