Man, that was such a slap on my face. I started playing just hoping for a good game with a good story. Then, less then 2 hours of gameplay, if I remember, this Lost Odyssey thing gets my thirty-year-bearded-macho-face all wet... It was REALLY weird. But really amazing.
I remember thinking when this first started playing, 'Oh goodie, I love reading stories in games! The Oblivion books are always fun.' This was my face afterwards: D':
7:00 Until this point, I was slowly welling up. "I, however, can never go there." (Don't cry...it's just a game...) "I can never escape this world." "I can never see you again." (Don't cry...don't cry...) "This is not goodbye. It's just the start of your journey." He speaks his final words to her. "We'll meet again" (Don't you fucking DARE cry...) His final lie to her. (blink once, shed a single tear, hiccup, and proceed to weep like a bitch) .
i remember how much i cried, this is an amazing dream and am kind of glad they didnt animate the dreams that way it can easily touch our hearts. Not many games can easily do that, i can probably count them with one hand.
This was my favorite aspect of the game. Not since Aeries died in FF7 have I actually shed tears over a game. They are extremely well written and so god damn emotional. I love it.
this can only come from the games that the original creator of final fantasy make, I am a fan of fantasy games, and final fantasy is no longer my fantasy, story comes before action, mistwalkers is a lot better then square enix, popularity doesn't necessarily mean its better.
i love this game, its my favorite RPG out of all the other rpg games he created (FFI-FFX)
I don't know how to cope with this... I mean, this is the very first dream you come upon and it's quite heartbreaking. If I were the creator of the game, I'd put this dream sometime after the event where somebody dies in the game.
@SplitPlaythru I think the presenting of these dreams is aimed to be unintentional. It's pieces of memory that come back to his mind, and these stories don't cope with the main storyline, so I think it is better to exp these dreams this way.
@BenHyuga Aeris' death didn't even make me feel sad. At least not much. But these on the other hand, some of these dreams had me crying like a baby lol. I have never, ever ever read any story that could ever compare to these.
i love the music at 2:58 but its upsetting! To be honest though when some one plays this game they arn't gonna sit there and read the whole story! i bet 90% of the people who have seen this either in the game or on youtube have become upset by listening to these dreams! i know a person who was put off of buying this game because it upset him too much! if your emotional, im warning you now!
I personally love a good story to a videogame. In response to your comment about ppl breezing through the story, I personally went though each of the dreams at least 2 times each and many times more for the ones I really enjoyed. But in agreement with your comment this game is overall, beautifully put together, it went beyond simple plotlines. Characters fit the bill to the T. The last game I played with this much character development had to be FF9.
i actually cried slightly

Damn, reading all these comments makes me feel like an asshole. I read this entire dream sequence without any trace of emotion.
Guess I really am heartless.

I just realized in the Signpost dream it ends with Kaim asking himself.
"Where am I from?"
"Where am I going?"
An homage to Hanna.

This is the ONE game i want to come to the PS3 from the 360.
Its everything i miss in an RPG that sadly doesn't get made anymore.
I can't just buy a Xbox for one game though.... *sigh*

the piano song at 6:38 makes it impossible for you to not show emotion while reading the dream

@SplitPlaythru Kinda have to disagree. Yeah its sad, but it was the main reason for me wanting to push on with the game and read every dream.

@SplitPlaythru Gee thanks for spoiling it by replying to the TOP comment with this. A regular old "Snape kills Dumbledore" here.

This is actually one my favorite parts to the game and the other dreams are great too. The game itself itself is good.

Cried my eyes out to this dream. It's so sad, and first time a story emotionally moved me.
I love how all of them have the inevitable fate of death, reinforcing the loneliness of being immortal. Strengthens Kaim's character too.
