I never had the opportunity to see STeve Blanchard or Terrence Mann portray the beast probably cuz I was I was very young when these two did it but, they do have awesome singing voices ;) but, the beast I recently saw Dane Agostinis was really good also ;) and very handsome ;)
I saw him in this 3 times, and he was AMAZING! He was also great in Frankenstein off-Broadway, and in Little House On The Prairie at the Papermill Playhouse(I got to meet him at the end of Little House! :D) Best Beast EVER!!!
kind of a dissapointment not going to lie. if he had actually been singing in the beginning, that might've helped. I can tell he has a good voice, but this just isn't a stellar performance.
wow, it doesn't matter that he doesn't sing all of it, the emotion he puts into it and the chills you get from watching his pain make it alright. Still love terrance mann the best in this role however.
Barely sings it and is all out of time. If I had paid to see this "performance" I would have been sorely disappointed. This is one of the emotional points of the whole show and this guy doesn't hit it until the very last note.
@phantomphan97 hey you put on a 30 pound costume and a facefull of hair and make up and prostetics and sing that song 8 times a week and tell me how you sing this song
god, the intro is terrible. His talking/singing is terrible. His speaking voice sounds completely fake. When he starts to finally actually sing, he has a wonderful voice, but it could have been done much better.
@shortshudson well i mean hey you put on a 30 pound costume and a facefull of hair and make up and prostetics and sing that song 8 times a week and tell me how you sing this song
this is the best "Beast" i have ever seen ! I saw the last show on Broadway , the way he does half singing half speaking totally fits the situation, gives the right feeling
hes really good! my first beast was some Sean guy during the UK Tour last year, not only was he AMAZING...he was also stunning (without the beat make up...obviously!)
I really don't get why they never changed the surprise of the Beast catching Belle. It was a good idea, but every time it just makes people cackle like hyenas and totally ruins the mood.
No, actually, there are a lot of sustained notes in this song. I understand that the body suit is heavy, but Steve Blanchard is a BUFF dude and he played the role for 11 years...no excuse.
@Fiyero06 so did Terrance Mann but he sang it so much better, he actually sang the song, Steve talked in tune, except for the with me, tht was really good
@nobodydusk1 yeah but the only video of terrence mann singing it is from the 30seconds on the tony awards. the CD is outta make up and out of costume creates a total different atmosphere on the voice
I had the honour of working with Steve Blanchard on this touring production, and he was amazing both on stage and off. A great performer! I used to run into the theatre at every show the moment this number started. He performed it better than any other Beast, and I am so happy to have found this gem on youtube. It gives me goosebumps and brings back great memories.
That lift at the beginning was rather...stupid, but apart from that, it was a brilliant performance. I especially love the way he said "I'm sorry..." It was so heartfelt. Though he seems to enjoy messing with the tempo a bit xD
I was looking through a old playbill from like 1996 when Beauty & the Beast came to Toronto. I found out that Steve was the Beast, & I don't remember him, This was the first musical I ever saw too.
Wonderful! Please give my performance of this a look!

To me, James Barbour was the best. But there are so many good beasts!

this is great. And the speak singing at the beginning is gorgous because its a recitative section.

doesn't it seem he's rushing it a bit? Like he's cutting each note in half
GoofyIndian92 2 years ago
Yeah, he's singing them like 8th notes.

The only part I loved was the last " Me... " He held it beautifully. Everything else was just dialogue in tune with the score.
kevisaurus 2 years ago
well he has to carry 30 pounds on his body makes it really hard to sing it wasn't written to be held out and substained through the whole thing

ok even though i love Steve Blanchards act for this character he could have used a little more emotion when he caught her.
But i love the song and the way he whispers, "I'm so sorry..." when Belle runs away!!!!XD
