  • I think Cybill in her prime was the most beautiful female on the planet.

  • Great , great movie. Man the 70's had such great movies what hell happened.

  • Robert De Niro had a shot with her, but he took her on a date to a porno theatre...he fucked up

  • @improvisedcinema1

    Clever!!!!!!

  • Even with a cast to die for Ben Johnson owned this movie.

So many layers, so much depth.

Cloris Leachman and Ben Johnson lifted the rest of the cast and between them made an average story into something that will last in memory for a long time.

This has become an almost overlooked movie...it's good to see that YT has paid it the honor it deserves.

  • Ben Johnson tops them all, even Cybil's breasts.

  • Great movie.

    I love it.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • BEAU COULD NOT FUCK HER CAUSE HE WAS A HOMOSEXUAL !!!! THATS THE WAY IT WAS WRITTEN IN THE BOOK!!!!!!

  • @dannys2222 Jeff Bridges, not Beau.

  • @london2z HE HAD A REALLY BIG UNCUT COCK TOO WITH A LOT OF FORESKIN OVER HANG THAT THE BOYZ USE TO LOVE TO CHEW ON !!!!

  • Cybill was an absolute peach back then.

  • It's been too long since I last saw this film from start to finish. I can't remember the last time this was shown on TCM.

  • was this made black and white purposely or what? didnt they already have technicolor tv or whatever in the 70s?

  • @PotterLover1 Yes it was made purposely in black and white. The Director Peter Bogdonovich thought that black and white would be more appropriate for the tone and mood of the picture. They definitely had color in the 1970's; just not in this particular picture. Hope this helps clear up your confusion!

  • @TheTweeter53 yeah, thanks :)

  • @TheTweeter53 PETER WAS FUCKING BARBRA STREISAND WHEN HE WAS MAKING THIS MOVIE AND ALSO FUCKING CYBIL SHEPPARD TOO!

  • one of the greatest films of all time

  • What memories, I worked as a projectionist in a drive-in, my dad did the same thing before me, I remember the day it closed. I seen this flick in 1971, it reminds me of a stanza from a song. "1971, we all heard the starters gun, New York was such a pity but at Max's Kansas city we won. We all shot the shit at the bar, with Johnny O'toole and his scar, then ol' Clive Davies said he's surely gonna makes us a star"--No Surprize--Aerosmith

  • Incredible film....what more can I type that hasn't been said already?

  • That women were handsome! Trully beautyful!

  • Mature Bogdanovich n Lil Miz Sheperd natural as mother's milk. LOL-ita.

  • One of those movies that's so true to life, it kinda makes you squirm just watching it. I know everybody in this movie in real life. only the names have changed. They don't make 'em like this anymore. Larry McMurtry is a great American author, and this is probably Bogdanovich's best work. For another slice of real life, see Dazed and Confused.

  • @cosmicdingo This is only the director's best film due to the ultra-sexy and excellent Cybill Shepherd! Paper Moon was a better directed film than this!

  • @monkcr I think she is one of the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. She looks like a godess in this movie.

  • The Dude abides....the Dude abides.

  • Cybil is beautiful. she is a great actress too. I just found out that her daughter is an actress on the Yound and the Restless...

  • @rc1965 SHE IS A TOTAL HAS BEEN NOW....SHE WAS FUCKING PERTER WHEN SHE WAS MAKING THIS MOVIE! SHE WAS A TOTAL SLUT IN HOLLYWOOD AND ELVIS FUCKED HER TOO!

  • I love Cybill, she's gorgeous <3

  • one of my fave movies of all time. book is great too

  • my god she was hot back in the day!!!!!! cybill that is

  • She is stunning.

  • Btw, thought the scene where Sam the Lion was fishng with the boys was one of the best.

  • Jaycee's an eyecatcher but all the women are beautiful. Annie-Annie is a hottie-hottie and I wonder if Bobby Sheen married her? Btw, just saw this and there is plenty of skin especially the pool scene.

I wish more scenes were included to provide connectiveness. Seemd choppy and rushed but Bogdanovich said there was a time limit < 2hrs. Despite that, so well-scripted that an attentively, thoughtful viewer can achieve resolution while keeping the characterization and engagement intact.

  • The nude pool party scene was re- edited for home video by the director when it finally came to video in 92,much frontal nudity is re-framed.The original theatrical version had more..odd for him to edit it out 20 years later.

  • They don't make guys like Ben Johnson anymore either.

    ( A few maybe . . . but hard to find . . )

  • They don't make them like this anymore.

  • One of my favorite flicks ever. Great cinematography, which I really love about this film. Small town in Texas, lonely, desolate, black and white is perfect to set the mood for this film.

  • I just read this book for my English class.

It's really fucked up, at least by today's standards.

  • Bogdanovich sure had an eye, I always loved this movie. Jeff bridges looks so young it's like he just crawled out of the womb....

  • Great movie with a cavalcade of real stars the likes of which are almost completely absent from the 21st century American movie scene. The Texas panhandle accents are so realistic.

  • Bogdonavich gave me his card to contact him re: becoming an actress when i was 15...I never realised he was so famous

    ...that was in 1973

  • I first watched this movie after reading about it countless times in Lisey's Story. It is an awesome movie.

  • Ellen Burstyn was ridiculously hot in this movie.

  • @S0vereignty Aged a lot after this.

  • great stuff! what did you use to edit the divx?

  • Cybil's not the best actress not on Ellen or Cloris's level but she was perfect in that role. She just needed to be cast right. I think all the actors in this film played their role great. Remember Cybil's character is this shallow, bitchy lost girl. She's not very likeable. Leachman's role has more depth to it.

  • @Tigerlily21 Yes she was okay in this role cast perfectly even though acting not the best, for her character she could get away with it.

  • This was a GREAT movie! But of course they had to make a sequel and ruin it!

  • I saw this movie for the first time in my coming of age film class this past semester and I couldn't help but to love Duane!! I thought he was so cute and definitely didn't realize he was Jeff Bridges. Now when I see him in all of todays movies I still think he is a good looking man! Poooor Duane!

  • You can now google street view Archer city, Texas and see some of "The Last Picture Show" locations like the Royal Theatre.

  • not bad duck not bad 5 stars

  • Ellen burstyn is an accomplished actress still active at the age of 75. She has won an Oscar and has been nominated in both supporting and lead actress since her 1st win. As for cybill sheperd hmm. i guess i liked her in moonlighting.

  • Best thing Ellen Burstyn ever did. But Cybil's acting hasn't grown or even changed in almost 40 years.

  • Burstyn was great in "Resurrection", too, with Sam Shepherd. Cybil was such eye candy in this, Taxi Driver, & Heartbreak Kid.

  • Ellen was also great in Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore.

  • @unclealand She wasn't a great actress ever(Cybill)

  • she charged jeff $1,000 for a blowjob

  • wasn't it Tara Reid in The Big Lebowski?

  • That is underrated actor Clu Gulager.

  • After 40+ years, I'd always thought it was Galager. This is such a great flick. Back when it was new, it was paired with "Play It Again, Sam". Great double bill

  • The fellow at 4:00 looks remarkably like Bob Dylan in that lighting.

  • wtf are you blind?

  • I just watched this movie and the acting is unbelievable. The only thing that sucks is that Timothy Bottoms didn't receive an award! He was phenominal!!! Just as good, if not better, than the rest and I hope he knows it!!!

  • cybill era bellissima davvero, e la scena del biliardo è una delle più arrapanti mai girate.

    grande peter.

  • Man, Cybill was a stone fox back then, wasn't she?

  • Great video, but i can not believe no one has posted the "stock tank" scene with Sam the Lion. That scene and when the "i've been around trashy behavior all my life and i'm getting tired it" won him the academy award, ironic he almost did not take the part because he thought the movie was trashy. Ironically, they filmed it in Archer City, the town nearest to the McMurtry ranch.

  • I agree completely! Please, can someone upload these two scenes. Ben Johnson is priceless in this movie!

  • Absolutely! That 'stock tank' scene with his dialouge and the camera moves and that line are my favourite parts of a flawless movie.

  • I saw this movie a few days ago on Turner Classic Movies and it was great!!! I love it!!! Absolutely inspirational and heartwarming

  • My little brother said this film was in "gay black & white." Can you believe that shit?

  • Holy f*ck, I forgot how good Cloris Leachman's performance was! This film launched Cybill Shepherd's career, but Cloris Leachman stole it outright. The amazing thing is she's just as good at comedy. And still amazing (and dazzling) at 80.

  • I agree that Leachman gave a great performance but Cybill was astounding as the adolescent beautiful -- bitch seems at once too strong a word and too shallow. Best way I know how to say it is that she was a player.

  • That's Ellen Burnstein ain't it.

  • Yep, that's Ellen Burstyn. She is so wonderful in this movie. This movie has a brilliant collection of women's roles... think about it...Cybill Shepard, Eileen Brennan, Ellen Burstyn, and Cloris Leachman. Wow. They all played such finely drawn, interesting characters, and they were all so good in their roles it boggles my mind! This is one of my favorite movies, ever.

  • A scene I really liked was at the funeral.Everyone is sad,and Sonny looks over at Ruth, and she has a smile on her face. She was thinking of sex during the burial.LOL!!!

  • It's nice to have this online at all. One of my friends has never seen the film, so it was good to show him a highlight reel.

    Great movie!

  • We need the "old times" monologue and the "never you mind" scene. :)

  • Yeah...the old times monologue is the best of the film for me...Really charming moment

  • I uploaded the end scene, I can't do the old times, sorry.

  • @mhayes25 You will do eventually sunshine

  • Cybill Shepherd was very charming!!

  • I have never seen this movie, but I have seen "Lonesome Dove" which was written by the same guy.

  • best movie ever

  • Wow how cool is that I saw this movie when I was a kid and it was a great film, I wonder if it is on dvd yet?

  • It is avaliable on dvd, check amazon.com. I did. :D

  • Thank you mhayes25 i appreciate it.
