"It's goosebump time in Oxford." Verne Lundquist hit the nail on the head. This game epitomizes everything that is great about the SEC and all of our teams. You just do not get this atmosphere in any other league (including any professional league.)
Matt Mauck absolutely threw this game away at least tried to. The defense was just too good. I doubt our defense will ever be as good as it was the 03-04 season. i Doubt the team will be as good period.
Thanks for having so many of these classic SEC games uploaded.....or the hightlights of them at least! I've been looking for footage of this game for years.
it was still an amazing game. and i agree that LSU dominated defensively. Minus the INT for a touchdown at the beginning of the game, LSU shut Ole miss out til the 4th quarter. but it's not like Ole miss didn't have their share of big plays either. This video doesn't include two 30+yard completions that Manning made during the game...and another long completion that was called back due to pass interference. Plus Ole Miss's defense wasn't too shabby either.
@msu15 3 INT's for Ole Miss.....and also remember Nichols missed 2 field goals. Eli got wornout during this game by that Defense, but Ole miss was definitely good enough to win the game. It just wasn't to be.
@jeffbrister2004 Yea they did have to a chance to win the game, but it was not a classic. Both qb's were horrible, and did ole miss even crack 200 yards in total offense? Good game, but I wouldn't call it a classic.
@msu15 LSU total yardage-241 Ole Miss total yardage 227. but more importantly Ole Miss only had 27 rushing yards... LSU commited way more penalties than Ole Miss...with 10 compared to 4. Manning was actually statistically better...well i guess that depends on how you look at it. Eli had one td and one int with 200 yards and Mauck had two td's three int's and 189 yards.
@msu15 It was such a huge game for Ole Miss at the time. I think that's why most Ole Miss fans consider it a classic. They coulda clinched the SEC west for the first time under the leader ship of Eli Manning...
@jeffbrister2004 Very true, I was just about to post that. I think people view this game as a classic just because of the magnitude of it and not the actual game itself. Also, the pre game vid from cbs was probably the best they have ever done.
Corey Webster intercepting Eli Manning was funny.

Beating Ole Miss is like taking a dump, it feels good in all, but you really try hard not to brag about it.

If Ole Miss wins that game, the LSU/USC/Oklahoma BCS brouhaha never takes off. Would have been interesting to see.

I wonder how many times Corey Webster tells Eli about that pick.
