The TBM 850 is really a terrific aircraft! 320ktas!
My only request to Daher-Socata...please stretch the fuselage one more passenger row, making a lavatory AND six passengers a reality! TBM 1000+ ? I think there's a market for that...
I sure like the 1200shp Pilatus PC-12NG, but don't need the 9-pax configuration.
How about a stretch TBM 950? I think there's a market for that...
That takes a lot of courage to do a trans-atlantic flight with a single engine plane, because if you lose the engine, your a dead mother period, even if you survive the ditch, your in the middle of the freezing atlantic and it could take a while for them to find you if your transponder malfuntions as well!! I am just chicken shit of trans atlantic flights period. I'm a pilot and it bothers me and especially w/ a new plane that had 0 time on it. I love the 850 and pc-12 but going over the ocean?
@mikesanto70 You got that 'courage' thing, right! I don't especially care for transatlantic with TWO engines!
(gimme an 'ol 707 or DC-8, and those FOUR engines for transcontinental flight...!) The PT6 IS a GREAT engine, and if I had to stake my life on ANY engine, that Pratt&Whitney would be first choice. I personally know of no one having a PT6 quit on them, although there probably HAS been such an occurrence before...
Whoa! My brother and father just sent me this video. Aparently the plane in the video (TBM 850 tail number N850FR) is the plane my father just bought new from Socata. I'm guessing the video was shot while transporting the aircraft here to the States. Anyway, it's cool seeing our own plane on a video on YouTube. They both went to Florida a couple weeks ago, but I still haven't gotten the privilage to travel in it. Beautiful video. Thank you.
I'm also surpised that, judging by the Hobbs meter, Daher Socata didn't do a local test flight around Tarbes, France prior to the transatlantic flight.
I shot this trip using the Cannon 7D still camera in full res HD video mode, mostly using a Cannon ESF 17-55 IS lens. The Cannon allowed me to travel light and hit HDR stills as well. I also had a Sennheiser pin mic under my headphone for audio. I edit using Sony Vegas, which I like because it started as a music program. I use it for editing and original music underscore. The air to air was shot from a Mooney J, with the baggage door off. Fun gig!

@mainmark25 I think it's more of a way of saying "I think your question is silly and I'm not got to tell you squat".

The narrator sounds like a sedated Ted Nugent.

Could you give some info about the Camera 7D, the video production and lens you were using? Thank you!
