  • Do NOT plant your iris rhizomes 3 inches deep. They like to be close to the surface of the soil with a small portion sticking out. They LOVE the warmth of the sun. Burying them too deep prevents them from getting the sun that they need and your iris rhizome will probably rot.

  • very poor advice - not very helpful!

  • If you plant rhizomes that deep, they wont bloom and they will probably rot......

  • You do not plant bearded iris rhizomes that deep! The rhizome should just sit above the soil surface with the roots spread out and the roots covered with soil. Planting the rhizome over 1-2 inches deep could rot the poor thing and prevent it from growing and flowering properly.

  • @AznEnrique i have to disagree if your first planting a bearded iris that was just split its a good idea to put the top at most 1 cm under the ground but if you put more or less they dont do well on the other hand adventually the bulb will reach the surface so thats ok but if your first planting it its a good idea just to help it get started
