  • fuck all you hail satan, golf wang.

  • Victor look terrible xD But I still love him...he's mature now:D

  • I just got done playing John the Baptist/Judas in my schools production of Godspell, I have just fallen in love with this musical!

  • Press 3 for Baptizing ass slap!

    Its holy and hot!

  • This guy was Frazier Crane's butler

  • Yikes! I think I'll stick to the soundtrack! :)

  • That is what the city looked liked in 1973

  • I adore Victor Garber ... I wish I would have been around to see him on stage in this role :)

  • Too bad about half the cast is now deceased. RIP.

  • Biscuithands Webseries

  • So i got to meet Victor Garber today at the opening of Godspell , i stupidly asked what happened to the fro lol

  • Don't trust Jesus!!! He's a double agent!!!

  • Good songs, but my god what a terrible movie. As an agnostic, it's hilarious to watch.

  • I dunno. I've kinda always imagined Jesus like this. Fun-loving. Deep. Approachable. With an easy smile. Loves it when the people are happy in their lives. Makes sense to me.

  • My Jesus is not a Clown!

  • @marsalo08 Well, we know at the very least he was not an attractive man.

  • @marsalo08 that is not the point or meaning....wow, talk about missing the point.

  • @marsalo08 it is like you see this beautiful message that just wants people to learn to love and be near to God and you pluck some small thing to sour the message and in by doing so serves no other point but to contribute the the ongoing malaise of our already critically damaged spirituality. You look and see 'clown' I look and see safety and acceptance, why make the world colder than it already is.

  • @marsalo08 True, Jesus was not a clown, but is surface more important than substance? Some would argue that you need to have to take this seriously, using only the King James verses or Latin. I THINK what they were trying to do was make message so it would reach a wide variety of people...my opinion and it's just from watching it a good 40 times.

  • I wish we lived in a time period where singers could actually sing as good as these wonderful singers.

  • I had tough time explaining the whole "Jesus as hippie" bit to my kids.. .70s....

  • @biukucane I would've just said that Jesus spent the most time among those who needed him most, but that's just me.

  • I must have seen this movie/musical about 100 times when I was a kid, cos I loved it so much. Although the outfits and the sound are dated, it still takes me back to a simpler time. The other funny thing is, that only recently did I realize that Jack Bristow(Victor Garber) was the guy who played Jesus.

  • @simmohart And among Victor's MANY other roles, he also played Thomas Andrews in "Titanic" and Daddy Warbucks in the 1999 "Annie" movie ... :o)

  • LOVE IT!

  • what the fuck...over

  • And to think--the cast of 'Godspell' sang and danced on top of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center!

  • God is so epically awesome

  • How come here the blond guy baptizes Jesus like he's John the baptist but later he apparently is Judas?

  • @yesiampsycho in all renditions of godspell the guy who plays john the baptist in the first act plays judas in the second

  • Are they on drugs?

  • @hhaugan

no. It's a movie made in the 70's.

  • gods the one that sang god save the people

  • Can't wait! We are doing it for a one act <3

  • Donde puedo comprar este film? Godspell 1973. Gracias.

  • Me encanta. Preciosa forma de preparar los caminos al Señor.

  • I'm doing this play at my school! It's a two week summer camp. I'm having so much fun.

  • @marzipan0002

    Lucky! i wish i could.

  • EU AMO ESSE FILME!

  • I saw this movie in 1974 when it was shown on T.V. - never grew tired of it. I just saw last Easter on AMC, no commercial interruptions, and I was just as captivated as I was then. Really a beautiful all-time classic for all ages. This is perhpas my most favorite pieces in the entire film. Just a shame that it appears to cut off at the last few notes at 6:42. Anything you could do to correct that? Peace. :-)

  • This is so damn satisfying even completely apart from the context of the story and the movie, just seeing people in the middle of New York City walk away from their unfulfilling day jobs and jump in the fountain. Can't say I haven't wanted to do the same and my office isn't that far from where they filmed this....

  • @clemdane DO it!!!! Now, THAT would be a cool Flash Mob dance to do, wouldn't it? Get a handful of people to remake this scene in that fountain in the middle of lunch hour!

  • @Salineddi wow, I never thought of actually doing it. Hmm, gonna think about that

  • @Salineddi My friends and I are doing it in a fountain in this shopping center. We're probably going to get arrested.

  • 2:05 falcon booty slap

  • God save the people. No say thy mountains,no say the sky.

  • is this a horror movie?

  • @doobiesmoke15

No. It's a musical made into a movie. the reason for the look & paint is it was made in the seventies but it's suppose to look like the sixties.

  • very good songs even excellent.Great storytelling.A joy to listen to.

  • i got to play Jesus in Godspell in college... kinda hard to top that part, thereafter! :)

  • Thank you Jesus.

  • the beginning of Jesus s revolution when i met the children of God, thanks God

  • 13 people need to laugh.

  • I noticed in this film, when they're on top of the WTC, there's construction equipment visible..................when this was filmed, the towers apparently weren't finished yet.

  • i dont think he slapped her butt,i think she just had her hands behind her so he could give her a high five,or did he hit someone elses? i'm confused lol

  • Pause at 2:05. I'd pound that.

  • hast not robin ince brought thee here

he who love of the pringle

he who had of the pudding

look kindly upon his freaky hairdo

  • Im a part of a production of godspell

  • Any else reminded of the opening to "Friends" when they play in the fountain?

  • I always wanted John the Baptist's jacket...

  • I went to see a college production of Godspell. They did a fantastic job.

  • why is jesus wearing alice cooper make up and a superman s ?

What ever the reason this movie rocks

  • @SNB222 it is symbolic. The superman for ability and expectations (miracles). The make-up is that of a mime/clown. To many in His time he was seen as a performer.

  • I first saw the movie back in 1973 (?) when I was 7 yrs. old. I totally "dug" the music. Although I was raised in a Christian home, at that age I didn't really "get" how deep the message was (or how clever the setting of the play) until a few yrs later when I saw a live performance of the show. Ever since then I end up a blubbering mess I see Godspell! EVERYONE should see this movie or the play! Then I think people would truly "get" it!

  • I always laugh when John/Judas smacks that gurus butt!!!! Hahaha

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!!

  • A classic! Innocence, Happiness and Love!!!

  • Remember this when I was a child - never felt more close to God then in the 70's.

Godspell, Jesus Christ Superstar - wow - what a time.

    I miss it still.

  • @darkkramer666 YOU STILL CAN FEEL THAT WAY NOW WITH THE MAGIC OF DVD AND LOVE IN YOUR HEART THE FEELING AND CLOSENESS YOU HAVE WITH JESUS NEVER HAS TO DIE!!!!!

  • @darkkramer666 ... i see ur name

i suppose u dont follow the gospel either. this movie goes against the roman catholic..

  • @darkkramer666 Yeah, me too - it was before the Imperialist tendencies of the 80s sterilized Christianity for the rich and privileged. I am sure that the spirit of Constantine grimaces from Hell at the spectacle of establishment "Christians" who have access to money, power, and sex but don't give a darn for the poor, the children, or God's earth. The Philistines are still with us.

  • i know almost all the words to the whole movie thts how much i luv it!!!!...ive also worn out 2 dvds of it lol

  • i know almost all the words to the whole movie thts how much i luv it!!!!

  • 12 people don't see the pure magic behind this movie!

  • God saved us when He gave us His Son!

    Peace

  • Destampei o balaio POP "70's ". rsrsrsrsrs

  • I needed to hear this song.

  • @eliz57 I watched UNT's production yesterday, and it was VERY GOOD!!!:)

  • I love it! Amazing ministery! God bless all! @gracekellylira

  • This was the beginning of the end! Ever since they let acoustic guitars into church it's been downhill. Just kidding!!

  • @charliekkendo Our praise band plays Godspell "Prepare Ye the Way" as an intro to Evans' "Prepare the Way". I'm on acoustic guitar, of course. ;)

  • I think a lot of people missed out on a pretty big message that everyone in my English I class missed out on when we watched Leonardo DiCaprio in Romeo and Juliet.

The message, or part of it, isn't that we can teach gospel without being preachy, so much as that it can work in any time we set it in. If I had the time or money, I could make my own version of Godspell set in 2011.

  • I remember all of these songs from the 70's so well. So when my son told me that he would be playing in the orchestra at University of North Texas for a production of Godspell, I had to come over to you-tube and play some of the music from it. Imagine my surprise when I realized that Victor Garber played Jesus in this production. Why couldn't I remember that part?!! LOL

  • Love this song ... it is one of my favorites from the musical. But I also love the whole musical as well.

  • 12 people didnt prepare the way of the lord and are in the eternal fire

  • I am sining this at church for the stations of the Cross

  • The melody from the song, " Jesus Christ Superstar " Was in the early 70's the song for NFL football.

  • i sang prepare ye the way of the lord for my school christmas show and i had a blast ! it was so0o0 much fun (: great song and movie <3

  • I've never been deeply religious, but I've always loved Godspell and Jesus Christ: Superstar. My family saw both in theaters in the '70s, and I watched Betamax copies growing up. Copied from TV of course!

  • OMG at first, I thought this movie was crazy, but then, i realized, this movie is GREAT!!!

  • Lol I remember my first time seeing this i was like this is kuku crazy! then i was omg this movie is awesome!

  • 11 people are mad they didn't get baptized in a fountain.

  • 1973! Is it that long since a wholesome movie has come out of the States?

  • You know what, those of you who do not believe in Christ, go ahead, don't believe, just don't go around trying to convice us he doesn't exist, I believe he does.

I just feel like if you don't believe in Christ then quit talking about it, let it go, just know...I believe God loves you either way.

  • @JRWinters95 ??This musical is about Christ, a hip version of his trials and tribulations.....grant it decades have passed, but hip!

  • @EHOWATT100 I know, currently im in my schools production of Godspell haha, but theres people who comment this video that dont and they try to disprove God..it bugs me sometimes.

  • @JRWinters95 It's good that they try to disprove God, I think, so we can prove them wrong

  • JESUS CHRIST is Better Influential than Watergate scandel being played out.

  • just notice thats the guy who plays in titanic and you again

  • Oh my lord.

  • jesus is as much of a lie as sleeping pills are...

  • Some people spend hundreds or thousands a year to cut their hair. Save money and let your hair grow. That would lower poverty.

  • JESUS!

  • I so wish I could run and skip along with them!

  • somebody should make a new version.Instead of hippies,it could be punks,emos and goths.Seriously.

  • @blackwhimsy that would be pretty stupid lol

  • Great movie, shame they don't make'em like this anymore

  • lol @ faceplant 1:08

  • Praise God, I have been looking for these clips or audio since my old 8-track (what's an 8-track??) tape broke. Thank you for sharing.

  • @CootsMayhem I know what an 8-track is! and had one that actually worked until the mid-1980s (by then they were obsolete) And we had the Theater version of this on 8-track!

  • i woke up with "God Save The People" stuck in my head.

it's gonna be a good day.

  • @seven2one thats the way I work up this morning,,, with this tune in my head....

  • @seven2one or a very annoying one once you cant stop singing it coz it is awsome

  • @seven2one Ever day with "God save the people" in your head is a good day; right relation to God, right relation to your fellow men.

  • such memories!!!!!!!

  • Merked @1:08

  • I LOVE this so much 8-)

  • Halleluyah! This brings such wonderful memories! I had the JOY of being in a production of "Godspell" back in '92 and it was one of the truly BEST times of my life!! I wept when we struck the set. I hope more young people learn about this "funderful" musical and I hope that there is a big Broadway revival of it-with touring casts and the whole thing! It is so bizarre that the stuffed shirts thought it was "blasphemous" when it first came out!! Make a joyful noise unto the Lord!!!

  • It is the Second Sunday of Advent. The scripture that goes with this is in this song. I never knew way back when I was a part of this musical-before this movie-that it was about John the Baptist. Cool. Not with a "K" either!!! Then things were "COOL"!!!!!!!!!!!!

    It still so is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great video dear one..thanks for posting it.

    mama

  • i was separate from all church at the time of my metanoia. I searched for people with the same experience and found them so excited about this powerful outpouring of God..a call that upheaved ones whole attitude! Others were suddenly describing the same feelings like being baptised not just with water but with the Holy Spirit! I read the whole book of Romans from a bible that some woman named LaVern gave me. I completely changed. i had an exciting new faith in my heart. ah those seventies!

  • John the Baptist, coming to a fountain near you!

  • I wonder if Godstrophyofgrace is related to DickCArbiter who makes similar comments about the youtube video "JK Wedding Entrance Dance". Both are of the same mold of those people who believe that their interpretation of who God is and what He wants is the only one possible. Kind of reminds me of the Taliban.

  • If everyone gets a chance, go see the stage productions of Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Godspell. It will give you a better contextual understanding of the late 60s and early 70s.

  • In the interest of honesty, I have been there and done that. I made an ass of myself several times before I deeply learned a painful truth: It is very hard to get off a high horse - gracefully....

I is also impossible to love, as Christ loved us, as long as we are on that high horse.

  • The list of fruit(s) of the Spirit (Gal 5:22 (KJV!)) fails to mention anger, judgmentalism, and self-righteousness - which dominate several posts. I am convinced that LOUD defenders of God, the Bible, or a version, are the ones feeling threatened - and NOT Him!

And, three cheers for the clown image! Traditional clowns had all sorts of bad things, and dirty tricks, happen to them - but they always won in the end! Just like the Jesus I know. Like Paul "I know WHOM I have believed...."

  • @Anaris10you clearly know nothing of the one TRUE GOD! and your comment to me makes no sense. I said nothing about love...what dope do you smoke when trying to sound smart? I am not a prophet! but I KNOW what my KING JAMES BIBLE tells me about God and I am sure He didnt play any part in the movie! thats all I was saying. So take your craziness somewhere else....

  • Comment removed

  • @Godstrophyofgrace - I humbly submit that God, based on the KJV, did indeed play a role (no pun intended) in Godspell -

Isaiah 55:11 - So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall NOT return unto me void, but it SHALL ACCOMPLISH that which I please, and it SHALL PROSPER [in the thing] whereto I sent it.

Philippians 1:18 - What then? notwithstanding, EVERY WAY, whether in PRETENSE, or in TRUTH, CHRIST is preached; and I therein DO rejoice, yea, and WILL rejoice...

  • Boss: So, why did you just leave work in the middle of the meeting? You: I heard John The Baptist singing...and um.. yeah. Boss: Oh... Mabey you should take some time off....

  • I remember doing this play in high school in 1976. God, could you imagine the problem it would cause now....It's a shame.....

  • @INGRAMDR I don't know about that. My high school did this back in the late 90's. And a kids' theater group near my home did this just last year. Luckily, not everyone freaks out about offending folk and just concentrates on preforming a fantastic musical.

  • This really just creeped me out alot

  • Why does the sound cut out suddenly at the end?

  • God isn't in this movie at all. This is downright blasephmy!!! the man slaps the girls but in this scene is rediculous! My God is holy and righteous. Never would this be going on in his presence.

  • @Godstrophyofgrace Oh,your god is righteous and you are a god fearing person?...Sad,that you must FEAR your god..so much for all that LOVE you like to talk about.and you even presume to speak for your god!..you are then,a prophet?...

  • @Godstrophyofgrace Do you think that every slap on every butt is sexual? Pro atheletes do it all the time. This movie brought a lot of people to God's love. By the way, God invented sex. I don't think he wants you or anyone else to be so prudish that you miss the point of beautiful movies like this one and Jesus Christ Superstar that reach the hearts of so many that were turned off by stuffy, holier than thou churches. That kind of church can do more harm than any innocent slap on a rump.

  • @EmpressOfWyoming58 im sorry that you are so blind to the reality of a HOLY GOD! did you ever read the bible? never once did Jesus even have a woman in his presence and he touches her!!! I cant believe that you are trying to compare this to men slapping each other ...this was a man on woman slap and yes i do think in this case it was sexual and i REALLY dont believe Jesus Christ Lord of Lords the only man who ever walked on this earth who NEVER committed one sin would act in this manner! I

  • @Godstrophyofgrace Jesus Christ never had a woman in his presence? What about the woman of ill repute who washed his hair with her tears?

BTW, this isn't Jesus in the fountain, it's John the Baptist.

  • My eight year old daughter chose to dress up as Jesus from Godspell this Halloween. I couldn't be more proud, this movie and it's message makes me cry tears of joy everytime! In fact just this little segment made me cry. If only this was the real world what a beautiful world it would be indeed.

  • black guy with fro is the voice of elmo

  • @workingtitle43 No. Kevin Clash is the voice of Elmo.

  • @dotmacis no bitch kevin clash is ur mom

  • @workingtitle43 Very funny. Kevin Clash was born in 1960 and this movie came out in 1973 so he would've been a little young to be in the movie, wouldn't he?!?! :o)

  • @dotmacis my dear friend you certainly raise a compelling argument... how old is your mother?

  • @workingtitle43 My mother, if she were still alive, would be in her early 80's. And I'll thank you not to say anything else about her.

  • @dotmacis listen broski, im sorry if that's true but now everyone says that about their moms when someone says something about them, and i cant be sure and..... wait how did we get into this argument.... oh yahh me thinking black guy was elmo, i meant that he sounded like elmo but i can see why you fuck it, i actually thought he was elmo but whatevs

  • @workingtitle43 nope

  • the songs are wonderful. The movie... REALLY odd.

  • @happylmc The message of this movie was to show how Jesus's acts were if they were in modern times. Like what typomanbros said.

  • @happylmc Oh honey, if you'd lived in the '70s you'd SO understand it!!

  • @koreateacher96 thats what my mom keeps telling me :-)

  • @koreateacher96 I think my English Literature teacher from highschool is still living it. ;P

  • Victor Garber gives me a theatre boner

  • what i dont understand about all of Godspell, is why do they have John the Baptist and Judas as the same person

  • @greenfarmer60 Theatrically and ironically it makes sense. Don't forget that John the Baptist was beheaded on a whim by Herod. And we all know what Judas did. There are only 3 biblical characters in Godspell. Jesus, John the Baptist and Judas. The other characters just use their real names. They are just like you and I. Most of us will never just drop everything nor does God want us to. But if what we do to survive is a detriment to society, humanity and God then we should change up.

  • Wouldnt be cool if people actually did just start celebrating God, forgetting their troubles all the while?

  • Love 1:10 when the lady hits her face in the water. :P :)

  • Is it my imagination, or does that guy at 0:31 look like porn start Ron Jeremy?

  • love these songs!! =)

  • Can you believe that Jesus was played by the same man from Alias?! He's so good. <3

  • Ei MauMau, pelo visto você é brasileiro. Olha, grande filme. Cheguei a ver na sessão da tarde. Pelo que me lembro, o ator que faz João Batista também faz Judas. Confere. E quem é Jesus Cristo? Ele é bem parecido com o Harpo. Grande postagem.

    Parabéns

  • @lilwayneluvrr - More to the point it's John The Baptist, as opposed to the disciple John.

  • This gives me goosebumps every time I see it!!!

  • purification.

  • I'm not even Christian and I think this is a great musical...does that say something?
