It's true that the Vikings got away with a game in 2008 in the metrodome against the Lions, but while I'm a Lions fan I'm not all that happy about this win, especially since they were up 21-0, 28-7 and 31-14 and let the Vikings come back and almost beat them. The year Detroit went 0-16 we had a bs pass interference call (which even the ref admitted he got wrong) in the last 10 seconds in minnesota, which would have given us a turnover on downs and won the game instead Minnesota kicked a field goal and won 12-10. So eat it!!!

If you look, isnt the ball out before the facemask? Wouldn't that make it lions ball and then fifteen yards from wherever the lions recovered? So, if the Vikings would've recovered, they would've had an extra play. However, since the lions recovered, they would've just kneed it anyways. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that the rule?

@kurtissiewert Yes, the ball was clearly out before the facemask; NO, it wouldn't be Lions ball because, regardless of whether or not the ball came out, the facemask occurred before either team gained complete control and possession of the ball. It should have been a15 yd. penalty, 1st and goal Vikings. The Lions were gifted, plain and simple. Knowledgeable Lions fans know this.

yes in face it would have. in the kick return logan ran 71 yards to minnesota's 33 yard line the horsecollar penalty wouldve gotten us to the 18 yard line. instead lions got an offensive holding penalty which pinned us back at our OWN 10! if we got the penalty yardage we deserved, the penalties shouldve offset and we shouldve been at the minnesota 33 instead of our own 10!

Yep, the refs missed a call. Did it cost the Vikings the game, nope. The Vikings lost the game by giving the ball to the Lions 4 times in the first half for 24 pts. It did cost the Vikings another opportunity at winning, but who knows how that would have turned out. The Vikings also did not get owned...we did lose the scoreboard battle but not owned. The Vikes out gained the Lions by just over 50%, 425 to 280. That is NOT getting owned. But we certainly lost the game......

It doesn't matter if the ball had already been fumbled or not. If the quarterback tried to break the tackle by grabbing the lineman and throwing him down by his face mask, a penalty would have been called.

A "facemask" penalty is a judgment call that is not reviewable by replay.
Rule 12, Section 2, Article 5 of the NFL Rule Book (page 81) states that "no player shall twist, turn, or pull the facemask of an opponent in any direction."
The Rule Book describes the penalty as follows:
"Penalty: For twisting, turning or pulling the mask: loss of 15 yards. A personal foul. The player may be disqualified if the action is judged by the official(s) to be of a flagrant nature."
