Those who are afraid of blood should stay at home and mind their wives and children and those of us that a true warrior should match down to the battle field to prove our manhood.......''undeniably stunning''
"Democracy is inherently not a guarantee of liberty; it takes a good constitution and belief that everyone is rational and therefore deserves a right to participate in government" Check 'Every one!...Well as a woman the igbo society term of 'Democracy' will be flushed down the toilet in my opinion. As much as I admire certain aspects of the culture, as a woman I will be none existence in the so call democracy which is Greek for 'people Rule' where as in this time it shows only men rule.
@MaiAngelTv In your opinion which is not always guaranteed correct. Then children should as well decide for themselves since they are also human beings. Everybody cannot be everywhere. Some people have to lead others. In Igbo political set-up, the matters were first discussed in families if there was the need, before the family heads gathered to decide. Moreover, the daughters of the land called 'umuada' are very powerful in decision makin till todayg. If they say no the men cannot say yes.
Being an Ozo title holder myself, I know that the mark is made at the installation point when the Ufie music starts. The timing here is apt. I love the swaggering gaits of the titled men. I salute the obviously Yoruba actors doing this Igbo epic. That's d smattering aspects (wrong accent to Igbo names). A good director shld hv avoided that. In all, they tried. My regards. Achebe is great!

The Igbos of today have failed... Apparently ,
they do not show love to themselves... i feel astonished ... i think its part of their tradition... just check out small villages warring amognst themselves . They are still not united.. thats the more reasons an igboman cant be president of Nigeria today .
There can be no dispute to the fact the the Igbos are the only known democracy where every family head is represented and allowed to vote/voice out their will. The winner might take it all, but unlike what is obtained today where few 'election rigging' criminals and crooks occupying the seat of governments from local government to the top.
Who said the Igbo people have nothing to offer the world?
You are weighing the superior organization of an ancient community against a contemporary cultural starved context. What is demoscracy? Is there such a word in Igbo or its equivalnce? You will be surprised to learn that instead of being an ideology it was simply a way of life. And that, makes it richer.
Thosae who are afraid of blood should stay at home and mind their wives and children and those of us that a true warrior.......''undeniably stunning''
An igbo rap artist rising will use his great rap to message teh whole world about the Igbos, we know where where our brothers were slave into, but i'm glad to be an igbo, i met this igbo rapper in Miami, with him and Rick ross, we spoke our language to the core. I pray he leads our igbo youth. Long live igbos.
Quite an interesting opinion. Today's traditional practices contain elements of democratic principles evidently present several centuries ago in Igbo land. Glad you rightly identified assuch.
Another people that have similar democratic system is the Ewe of Ghana. Thomas Jefferson, the father of American democracy with John Adams and others are astute men who read a lot and investigated government systems before adopting the democracy that spread around the world. They must have been aware of Igbo and Ewe system of government.
The Igbos are notably great migrants even up till today. There are credible indications that the kikuyu tribe of Kenya, the Acholi tribe of Uganda and a large tribe in Haite originate or have blood relationship with the Igbos.
Their cultural similarities appear to support the indication. Just wondering whether anyone out there would be interested in making a research based contribution.
True words. The white men only invented robbery and slavery. Even in terms of relgion, my late granfathers name could be interpreted as "my God is the greatest"

This is proof that Igbos invented democracy. To rule by council and representation is the ultimate democracy.

Your contribution is worthy to be researched on.
