I use my laptop on my bed all the time. I have even purposely blocked off the vents and ran a stress tester on it (max load). It never overheated. Why? Because the cooling system on it is top notch. Here are some good tips: get a good quality laptop) without a graphics card and not one with the highest CPU. (not needed unless you game...) Make sure to keep your vents clean and vacuumed, and every year or two, take the heat sink out, clean it, and reapply a high quality thermal paste.
and for those who aren't computer savvy to know how to take out the heat sink and apply thermal paste, have a friend who is a techie do the task above. Everyone has a computer nerd friend, and he/she is probably willing to do it for $20 (worth it) or better yet free!
i used to put it on my bed sheet all the time. once it started smokin :O now i put it on a table or desk and a little bit of the edge of the table/desk so it can breath LOL
An extended warranty was put is place for some models , although my DV2500 was not on the very limited list . , it is the same issue . HP are trying to cop out . there are thousands of users that are unhappy as all have the same issue , bad design .
my serial number is 2ce8124453
DV2845se .
no boot no post .
any ideas , hp support bouncers said your not on the list .
I guarantee that if you keep using ur laptop on your bed, it will melt. Try puttin it on a hard surface. I meant it will melt things inside your laptop.
Try reinstalling/updating all drivers related to graphix and the screen. If that does not work there could be something wrong with a wire that connects the motherboard to the screen, it could allso be that the graphix card is broken, or it could be something wrong with the screen itself.
Hey thanks it really helped, I was downloading a huge file and computer overheated on the last minute of downloading! :( Thanks for thr tut
