  • I guess my main thought to this video is this: Shouldn't fancy pants man slow down in sand? Running around in sand tends to be tough work, you sorta lag around, sinking into the sand, etc, etc...

  • If there are battles going beside the main story you should make a difference if you decide to join in and it might even have an effect on overall gameplay.

  • Here's a thought: at the bottom, when you run through that puddle, as you step out for about 3 or 4 steps, you should make the foot prints muddy. You know? When you step in a puddle, then step in dirt or sand, it turns to mud. Not to be a critic or anything, but you know. It would make it look cooler.

  • @stinkomalinko: Considering doing something like that for ink, but you'd probably expect the water to dry, which I can't do if I'm baking the footsteps into the background. I don't know if you'd be able to tell the difference between regular footsteps and mud at the beach, though.

  • Oh well thats not good i just had a sinus infection last month and it was bad but as soon as i get a computer and get used to flash im going to start making platformers because as you said they are becoming a lost art and i believe they should be preserved and i bet world 3 will be the best flash platformer of all time

  • @Jeffy1712: Good! That's exactly why I started making World 1 all those years ago. I hope to hear from you in a few years when a new awesome platformer to beat! I'm definitely not resting until World 3 can stand up to most retail game releases nowadays, just shorter, heh.

  • On the subject of control i believe the more control in the players hands the better because you can play how you want not how the game wants you to and i especially love platformers and for the record im 13 and probably the smartest freshman in south central indiana

  • in 12 and i totally agree about games playing themselves unlike the good old days (which i wasn't around for) with donkey kong country and super mario 3 and metriod games that didnt hold you by the hand

  • I agree with you on the games where the computer does more than you. Some other people like that are the friendly folks at Nitrome. They made games like that, but you have to place the soldiers/knights/whatever-is-f­ighting and control the attacks and target where they attack and stuff.

  • @TommyStudios10: No problem there, as long as I'm in command. I love Starcraft and Advanced Wars, even Battalion Wars on GCN and Wii, but they don't pretend that any one soldier is more important than the others.

  • @Frankranintostopsign: You might be able to get a sense of it from my pre-E3 post, but I haven't seen anything interesting... yet. Looks like something that would be best used in moderation with a normal controller, like, I like to lean while playing games, Kinect could actually track that, or the position of my controller (sort of Move, but with a real controller. Quick interface selection by moving one hand up and moving a cursor while the other is still holding the controller?

  • About the Crab walkin' at the ceiling i think you could simply leave that like (with a bit of improvement) it is and not treat it as a glitch because in my opinion this has the potential to be a really nice feature since no other enemy can walk on the roof yet :D

  • @FlareGlutox: I would think that the spiders would crawl on ceilings before the crabs do... Though you can't really hurt one while it's upside down...

  • @Rayuzx: If my teammates are killing things, then there better be way more on screen than I can handle alone. I thought that CoD2 especially handled that well, with so many points that you needed to go around a group, or your team would stay behind you. I HATE it though, when it just feels like I'm going through a scripted sequence, and baddies are popping up on cue, and my team is killing them on cue.

  • what you mentioned in the gameplay in your video is absolutely true; it doesn't mean people are playing the latest games.

    for those who are old enough to know rayman 1, it's stilled played today. although the resolution can no longer match the ones nowadays, the style and the graphics look very wonderful still.

    for those who know starcraft by blizzard, this game can be considered one of the most challenging and fun games of all time.

    those games are over 10-year old and fun.

  • @entaroduai: Haven't played much of Rayman 1 (though I kinda want to try to get it on Jaguar just because I can), but I love Rayman 2 on Dreamcast. And yes, Starcraft, don't think that game will ever get old. Hope SC2 can live up to the first one (didn't get in the beta, never enjoyed SC online, and was too busy playing the Reach beta, heh).

  • @DrNeroCF Dude, the Starcraft 2 beta was pretty sweet, even though i'm not a big fan of the online multiplayer, and im not that good lol, but i really enjoyed when they released the map editor. Anyways, huge fan of FP 1, 2 and now im really excited for 3, keep up the great work dude :D

  • I'm worried that FP3 will end up being one of those "play themselves" game with the pencil. I know you can choose to not use it, but I hope you won't be able to keep pressing the pencil-use button while you run and jump and have it destroy all the enemies in front of you.

    Also, you know what should happen again? Real twitch games. I missed the age of Sinistar and Defender and all them, and I feel robbed. Nowadays it's just "point your gun at the guy and shoot him, and he dies. Great. Now what?"

  • @Hedgehogs4Me: From what I've seen, when someone uses the pencil, they tend to get themselves killed, because beating the heck out of spiders is so fun, but leaves you super open, and takes much longer than just stomping them. The air attack is probably a little too powerful right now, but I'll find a way to tone it down.

    And yeah, long live twitch gaming! Sin and Punishment 2 looks to fill that need, though. Twitch aiming with a Wiimote feels perfect.

  • lol spider on the roof and on the gamer topic didnt know you owned a ps3 and yes your right about killzone 2 i also think that i prefer a game with good physics smooth subtle gameplay and less gimicky graphics sometimes the plainest of graphics are the best rather than more detailed graphics for things like flash games and ds games where as on ps3, xbox and pc (wii mabye in the case of super mario galaxy) why not have good physics and graphics?

  • I like games where the AI characters do something (besides getting themselves killed) but I agree with you I would hate it if they were so good that they destroyed everyone so all you would be doing is just walking with them while they kill everything that pops up, I'd probably end up shooting my teamates lol

  • that and people are focusing on graphics, you have a game with next to real life graphics and no replayability and innovation and fun.. the graphics are the exact same the second time through, and the third, and the fourth, fith, tenth, fifty-seventh, etc. same. game. and thats no fun. then need to make more games where you unlock new characters and bonus/extra levels when you beat it, like the mario games have been doing with luigi, he plays the game diffrently then mario, it feels diffrent.

  • @SorasNobodyXIII: It's a shame how often dev time is spent more on lighting than subtle details like Luigi's different physics, or better animation (I'm looking at you, MGS4's facial animation, yeck).

  • @coolman1081: Well, Activision is, being made by Eurocom, who made Dead Space Extraction, which from what I can tell, is a phenomenal (and very beautiful) Wii game. I just came at a time when I was getting tired of on rails games. But I have high hopes for GoldenEye (and seriously, who doesn't love GoldenEye?).

  • @JAdouble6: Thanks. And yeah, Portal's definitely one of the best games I've played in a while. Was great that it didn't overstay it's welcome, I hope they can really flesh out Portal 2. Then again, this is Valve we're talking about here.

  • Yeah I completly agree about the games but one of the things you should have talked about too is teh lack of animation for example say in kill zone two or what not your in a desert level and when he takes his 3d ultra smooth steps a little bit of sand kicks up and the first time you say "well thats cool" but then later you stop noticing it completly because it is the exact same ick of sand every tim but when i looked at the sand kicks you used they had sevral different cycles that continued

  • @MongoTheMonkFish to change depending on several factors and stuff and that made me appreciate yours more and I was watching those Epicly awesome sand kicks the hole time while in the other game maybe a 3 seconds which is another thing because in those huge games they have constant action and stuff and you can't just stop while in fancy pants you can just explore find extra stuff (that is almost completly gone in other games) and live life the way you want it any way love the gam can't wait!

  • @MongoTheMonkFish: Heh, well that's a bit nitpicky (though I do love to nitpick!), but studios always just need to prioritize their time, sometimes to extreme levels. Fix a few more bugs or create one more sand animation? And I can pump out assets far quicker for Flash than a studio can for a AAA game.

  • I hate to say this but there are tons of gritty FPS' simply because: they sell.

    That's it. Nothing more, nothing less.

  • @wjuk: Do they really, though? Do bad gritty real FPSs sell better than bad movie licensed games?  Or does Halo and CoD sell because of their quality, hype marketing, and branding, or just because they're FPSs?

    I honestly don't think that teams choose to make them for that reason, I really bet it's the publishers and publishers' stockholders. The more buzzwords the better, it's a disgrace to the industry.

  • @DrNeroCF Ok, they don't all sell. But they certainly give the illusion that they sell. Which seems to be more than enough for publishers and such to jump onto the bandwagon.

    That being said, some are genuinely good and we shouldn't take that away from them.

  • @wjuk: Well, really, I was complaining more about the gameplay than the style, besides the fact that people like to call them realistic, while at the same time thinking that the most cartoony looking ones still look the best (Uncharted, MGS, Starcraft II, Rage...)

  • @DrNeroCF Haha true. The best looking ones tend to be more stylised in nature. Going for a purely "realistic" graphical approach tends to make humans in the uncanny valley anyway.

    It's still find it a pity that graphics seem to be the thing people most want, even over good gameplay.
