In the beginning of the trailer there is a slow piano song from 0:00 to 0:33 does anyone know what song that is, and by whom? I would really appriciate it.
@Bboy7113 Thank you. Alas, I can't send you the notes, as I no longer have them (I borrowed the book from a library), and even if I did have them, there would be copyright problems if I were to distribute them!
@SarahJune87 Thank you! By coincidence I was just watching Thomas Newman on the Classical Brits on ITV receiving an award for best soundtrack ('Revolutionary Road')
Nice choice of piece Phillip and wasn't it a fantastic film. I think Tom Hanks (personally) ranks in roughly the top five living actors, Forrest Gump was one of the best film of _all_ time.
Anyway, back to the music, nice to hear you play something that isn't classical and 5*****
Thanks Mike. There are actually quite a few transcriptions of movie themes and popular songs on this channel - although it is not my main musical activity!
This piece appears in one of the 'Essential Film Themes' series published by MusicSales (either volume 2 or 4 - I can't remember which, as I used a library copy). The music is in copyright so it should not be freely available on the internet.
You did very well with this. Newman's music carries much of it's beauty in the capabilities of the strings. Pianos can't do crescendi on single chords so well done!
You are of course quite right. Us pianists can do crescendos on chords by tremolos - but it is not always appropriate, and wouldn't have worked with this piece!
Excellent! This piano version of a Newman score still does it justice because the intricacies and complexities of the harmonic chord structures are still intact, not to mention that there is true feeling applied in the fingerwork. Bravo!
Thanks for your kind comment. Keep practising the piano and you may play better than me - after all no one has yet asked me to play at Carnegie Hall, but lots of pianists do!
Oooh! One of my favorite themes. I'm a big Thomas Newman fan. This is what I would do if I was any good. I hear no real mistakes. A piano version is going to sound different from the full orchestra (which You Tube keeps taking down).
Thank you. The piano version does sound different, but I think it is faithful and as complete as it can be. I doubt if this will be taken down as I created it myself and used a legitimate copy of the score to play from!
I don't think there are many errors in this video. If there were, some of the previous 40 commentators (some of whom know the piece well) would have surely pointed them out!
wow ,This is amazing ,This is an amazing piece of music ,very moving.I was wondering would you be abe to upload a vid of you playing "coffey on the mile" because that is amazing ,would be really god if you could ,thanks
Thanks for your kind comment. You are the second person to ask me for 'Coffey on the Mile'. I will have to see whether there is a piano arrangement available.
Thanks for your comment. I sometimes have to put in very small gaps to convey the phrasing, and the continuity of sound can be difficult to judge when making a recording.
Thank you for your interesting comment! I had never come across Jim Boeheim or seen a picture of him. However I looked up a vid on here, and there is certainly a resemblance - although I think he is a lot fatter in the face and less grey than me!
Hi :) i just want to say its reeeally nice and I really DO love piano at all:) BTW do u think u can play "Thomas Newman- Coffey on the mile" too?:) I would really enjoy that .
Great Work man!! If i know there was someone else who posted already a green mile video. I wouldn't make a video of:S Especially when it is soo good! Great job!! 5 stars!!
It is difficult for me to answer this as I am not a teacher. That might help you read two-handed music from a score. Also it might help you to rationalize the process by comparing the task to eating a meal with a knife and fork, and the coordination needed to do that!
Thank you for your comment. It does indeed seem to be a very popular theme. Tutorials get a lot of views on YouTube, but I do not teach, and have no idea how to make one!
Oh, that is sad to hear. Well, if you ever get time I would really appreciate if you could play this piece but record it from a higher angle, so that we can see the notes you are playing :).

It is difficult for me to answer this as I am not a teacher. But I suggest that you should practice with both hands separately and also do some improvisation with both hands together with overlapping melodies. That might help you read two-handed music from a score. Also it might help you to rationalize the process by comparing the task to eating a meal with a knife and fork, and the coordination needed to do that!
