  • In the beginning of the trailer there is a slow piano song from 0:00 to 0:33 does anyone know what song that is, and by whom? I would really appriciate it.

  • @Bboy7113 Thank you. Alas, I can't send you the notes, as I no longer have them (I borrowed the book from a library), and even if I did have them, there would be copyright problems if I were to distribute them!

  • @tortosalb

listen to you tube dot com

It converts any video to mp3 fast easy and free, not to mention there's not software. I was skeptical but so far so good. Give it a shot bud

  • ONE dislike! D:

  • Очень красиво...

  • @ElenMos Thank you!

  • gr8

  • @SarahJune87 Thank you! By coincidence I was just watching Thomas Newman on the Classical Brits on ITV receiving an award for best soundtrack ('Revolutionary Road')

  • again, amazing :)

  • Thanks!

  • Thank you!

  • Nice choice of piece Phillip and wasn't it a fantastic film. I think Tom Hanks (personally) ranks in roughly the top five living actors, Forrest Gump was one of the best film of _all_ time.

Anyway, back to the music, nice to hear you play something that isn't classical and 5*****

    Mike

  • Thanks Mike. There are actually quite a few transcriptions of movie themes and popular songs on this channel - although it is not my main musical activity!

  • Good job, you have a wonderful talent.

  • That's very kind!

  • can you play Coffey on The Mile from this movie?

  • Several people have asked me this. I do not have the sheet music for that piece, but I will look out for it!

  • That just gave me goosebumps. This is amazing, The Green Mile is my all time favourite movie and you are incredible at playing the theme.

I can't read music and I learn by ear, but It's so difficult to play like that.

    Nice job. =)

  • That's a really nice comment. Thanks very much - and my best wishes for success in your own playing!

  • Absolutely Amazing!! Much respect for such talent (-: congratulations for harvesting such a masterpiece.

  • Thank you for that!

  • Absolutely no need to thank me;

    Thank YOU (-:

  • I'm 17 and I've been playing piano for a while.. I'd like to play this song ! Do you know where I can find the sheets ? Are they on the internet?

  • This piece appears in one of the 'Essential Film Themes' series published by MusicSales (either volume 2 or 4 - I can't remember which, as I used a library copy). The music is in copyright so it should not be freely available on the internet.

  • Okay ! Thank you very much !

  • Just...beautiful. Thank you for bringing one of my favorite orchestral soundtracks to life!

  • That's my pleasure!

  • Wow, your amazing on the piano, and you played the song very well, I wish i could play like you.

  • Thank you - and keep practising!

  • Just beautiful! Thomas Newman's songs are magical. Thank you again for your inspiration.

  • Thank you. I really must play some more of his music!

  • one of the best movies staring tom hanks

  • Thank you - I must confess to not having seen it!

  • It's one of my favorite movies and I love the way you play this amazing song. 10 stars !

  • That's very kind. Thank you!

  • You did very well with this. Newman's music carries much of it's beauty in the capabilities of the strings. Pianos can't do crescendi on single chords so well done!

  • You are of course quite right. Us pianists can do crescendos on chords by tremolos - but it is not always appropriate, and wouldn't have worked with this piece!

  • Indeed, but yes, tremolos aren't good for pieces like this. you did very well :-)

  • Thank you very much - I'm glad you enjoyed it so much!

  • Excellent! This piano version of a Newman score still does it justice because the intricacies and complexities of the harmonic chord structures are still intact, not to mention that there is true feeling applied in the fingerwork. Bravo!

  • Thanks for your kind and interesting comment.

  • Such a beautiful way of playing.

    Oh, I wish I could play like that... but I can't ^^"

I love the music Thomas Newman composes, his sound is always so nostalgic and timeless.

And this is a movie you don't forget easily.

  • Thanks for your kind comment. Keep practising the piano and you may play better than me - after all no one has yet asked me to play at Carnegie Hall, but lots of pianists do!

  • Hehe, thank you for the encoraugement...

I'll keep playing, hoping to improve my way of playing =)

  • SO BEAUTIFUL!!!! thank you very much!....would you like to play "Coffey on the Mile" someday?

  • Thank you! Several people have asked about the piece you mention. I need to look out for the sheet music to play that!

  • I never thought you were reading sheet music for this one; any way you could be able to write your own for Coffey?

  • just toooo melodious !! i want some more scores like this uploaded !! will be awesome for sure.

    :)

  • Thank you. If I find any similar scores, I will try to play them here.

  • very well man thanks 4 up

  • Thanks for that!

  • No problem^^

  • Good job! Very well done.

You look like Jim Boeheim, Syracuse's finest.

  • Thank you. Someone else pointed out that resemblance on another video, but the person you mention is not known much here in the UK!

  • you have good taste ,played very wel

  • Thank you!

  • I know that tutorials are very popular on YouTube but I don't teach piano, and I don't really have the gear, camera angles etc. or knowhow to do one!

  • Beautiful, I love music like this!! Thanks.

  • Thank you - I will certainly record some more piano transcriptions of film music as and when I can get the official published scores.

  • Oooh! One of my favorite themes. I'm a big Thomas Newman fan. This is what I would do if I was any good. I hear no real mistakes. A piano version is going to sound different from the full orchestra (which You Tube keeps taking down).

  • Thank you. The piano version does sound different, but I think it is faithful and as complete as it can be. I doubt if this will be taken down as I created it myself and used a legitimate copy of the score to play from!

  • omg ur so amzaing :'3

  • I'm glad you liked it!

  • team winner phillip!!!

  • Thank you!

  • I don't think there are many errors in this video. If there were, some of the previous 40 commentators (some of whom know the piece well) would have surely pointed them out!

  • Yes I agree! Coffee on the Mile would be amazing!!!

  • I will keep an eye open for it!

  • LOVE IT. This has ALWAYS been my very favourite piece from Thomas Newman. I applaud you.

  • Thank you! I did not know the piece at all before making this video, but it is obviously popular!

  • It's actually not that popular compared to his other scores & pieces. Which I find a shame.

  • Thank you for your inspiration.

  • It's a pleasure!

  • ive watched a few of your videos and there fantastic, hope you put plenty more up ;)

  • Thank you! I've no plans to quit just yet!

  • Very well done, u have gift at piano !

  • That's really kind - thank you!

  • wow ,This is amazing ,This is an amazing piece of music ,very moving.I was wondering would you be abe to upload a vid of you playing "coffey on the mile" because that is amazing ,would be really god if you could ,thanks

  • Thanks for your kind comment. You are the second person to ask me for 'Coffey on the Mile'. I will have to see whether there is a piano arrangement available.

  • Sounds good, but those split second silent gaps kill it.

  • Thanks for your comment. I sometimes have to put in very small gaps to convey the phrasing, and the continuity of sound can be difficult to judge when making a recording.

  • Been listening to this for hours. Deep sound. Makes me feel emotion for no good reason at all. Thanks...

By the way, has anyone ever told you that you could be the twin of American basketball coach Jim Boeheim of Syracuse University?

  • Thank you for your interesting comment! I had never come across Jim Boeheim or seen a picture of him. However I looked up a vid on here, and there is certainly a resemblance - although I think he is a lot fatter in the face and less grey than me!

  • I've heard many try to play the piano to music, this is one of the greats.

Very well done and please do keep up the great work.

  • Thank you so much - I will.

  • brillaint and very moving. bought tears to my eyes <3

  • That's kind - I'm glad you liked it!

  • could you play the theme to revolutionary rd please? that theme song is amazing.

  • I don't have the score to play from, but I will look out for the piece.

  • Man, that was beautiful. Words cannot describe that enough. Bravo ^_^

    cheyenne.

  • Thank you, Cheyenne!

  • your great mate keep up the good work 5 stars

  • Thanks very much - I will try to!

  • yes man, that is it! VERY NICE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you!

  • Hi :) i just want to say its reeeally nice and I really DO love piano at all:) BTW do u think u can play "Thomas Newman- Coffey on the mile" too?:) I would really enjoy that .

  • Thank you for your kind comment. I do not have the sheet music for the piece you mention, but I will try to look out for it!

  • Great Work man!! If i know there was someone else who posted already a green mile video. I wouldn't make a video of:S Especially when it is soo good! Great job!! 5 stars!!

  • Thank you very much for your kind comment!

  • You deserve it;)

  • It is difficult for me to answer this as I am not a teacher. But I suggest that you should practice with both hands separately and also do some improvisation with both hands together with overlapping melodies. That might help you read two-handed music from a score. Also it might help you to rationalize the process by comparing the task to eating a meal with a knife and fork, and the coordination needed to do that!

  • I'm sure you will play better than me if you work hard at the piano. I did not practice as much as I should have done when I was young!

  • damn man

    u did it

that so good i loved it

  • Thanks for that - I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • Thank you. Sometimes you can hear the music more clearly on piano arrangements, although you lose the interesting orchestrations!

  • wow thats so awsome

  • I'm pleased you liked it!

  • yes I admire so every play. I wish I could play so well

  • Keep working at the piano, and I'm sure you will.

  • awesome!!!

  • Thanks for that!

  • what is the ending tune to The Green Mile. Its so pretty and sad- What is the name if it

  • I'm afreaid I don't know that - can any other viewer help with this?

  • Hey, there are 2 tunes on the end.

One is called Punishment and the other one is called Now Long Gone :).

  • Thanks for that!

  • See the reply attached to this.

  • Holy crap! After years of waiting someone made a video of this music playing! This is one of my favourite movie themes. Make a tutorial :D

  • Thank you for your comment. It does indeed seem to be a very popular theme. Tutorials get a lot of views on YouTube, but I do not teach, and have no idea how to make one!

  • Oh, that is sad to hear. Well, if you ever get time I would really appreciate if you could play this piece but record it from a higher angle, so that we can see the notes you are playing :).

    -Emil

  • excellent work! I will wait for the next video =)

  • Thank you - I will see what I can do!

  • Amazing!

  • Thank you!

  • :( i badly want the midi of this :(

  • It is the actual published sheet music - but I played it from a library copy that has been returned. It comes from a compilation of movie themes from 2000-2005.

  • i erm, downloaded the sheet music but as i cant read sheet music i use music readers to convert the sheet music into notation music (midi) and then i use "synthesia" a midi player. But this green mile sheet music seems to be handwritten and every single music reader i have tried fails to read it :(

do u have any sugestions? apart from me learning to read sheet music :)

  • ok i definately need to learn this

  • HAHAH OH FUCK someone actualy played it and uploaded this song. wicked, is that sheet music the actual sheet music?

  • Loved the green mile. Thomas newman writes brilliant music and you have a good talent of playing good job

  • Thank you for your kind comment!

  • very good

  • Thank you!

  • Thomas Newman is one of my favorite composers! You play this beautifully :-)

  • Thanks for that!

  • yeah this is wonderful ,thomas newman is such a good composer:> thanks for doing the cover

  • Thanks for your kind comment.

  • Beautiful playing. Congretulations for the new background at your channel, and the new coloures. Has the spring-time begun at your place?

  • Thanks. Spring has not really begun here - but whatever the weather, one can usually find something flowering at this time of year!

  • I really love this song, the movie is great 2. Good work by the way. 5/5

  • Thank you - this is a really good quality piece that can stand on its own (which is why I chose to play it). I'm glad you enjoyed it.
