Whilst touring Europe after the first release of Don't Close Your Eyes, their then bassist left and that night they called Jia(Pie) and asked him to join them on the rest of the tour. Since then he has been a permanent member. The rest is history.

Parkway Drive are from Byron Bay, Australia. They formed after the the lads, bar Jeff, wanted to play heavier, more technical stuff instead of hardcore. They found Jeff because he was the only guy in Byron that could play metal and were so stoked after the first jam that the band was, for then, finalised.

After a few months, they released their first CD, a split EP with I Killed The Prom Queen, this all happened in 2002.

@noytard hell no. They are a Hardcore band some would consider Screamo. Several breakdown and chug patters, simple melodic riffs, tuned to Drop B, melodies, tapping, sweeping, and tremblo picking. Thrash: more snarls and yells, with a few exceptions. Palm Mute, usually using a pattern of 1,2,3,4,5,7 in between powers chords. Blues Influenced, scales, tapping, tremblo picking, Standard Tuning, Sweeping, Ect. There are a few similarities but they are quite different for the most part.
